We therefore feel that this adventure is best placed after the audio drama Her Final Flight, which saw him encounter a fake Peri. Both of them fare very well and there is the classic mix of humor and action famous in doctor who. Other adventures. Peri and the Fifth Doctor arrive in present day Los Angeles on the trail of a malevolent fish-alien. He can see out of the mouth and his eyes are mostly obscured by cheese wire! The ending twists so many of the jokes throughout the play right around and suddenly stops you laughing and starts you feeling quite down. As the production hurls itself over its emotional crescendo, the many myriad fates of Peri are revealed and reconciled. Soon, it's Peri who spins a tale, an, um, fish tale, to tell Peri and the younger Doctor - because the Sixth Doctor accidentally causes the death of the Piscon Zarl before his younger self can defeat him. While the first half offsets the comedy with some pathos, in Peri's despair at what kind of person she will eventually become, the second half not only adds further humour, but provides a real kicker as the truth of the intervening years is finally revealed.

    Chapter 11 “I Need Fish Fingers and Custard”: The Irruption and Suppression of Vegan Ethics in Doctor Who Matthew Cole and Kate Stewart Doctor Who, produced by the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), is the world’s longest running television science fiction series, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013. The original ‘classic’ run of Doctor Who was broadcast in the UK between 1963–1989, before going on hiatus, excepting a 1996 TV movie, although the programme retained a cultural presence through the production of new stories in alternative media formats and in video and DVD releases of the ‘classic’ series. The television series was rebooted in 2005 and has been in continuous production since. Both classic and new series Doctor Who targets a ‘family’ audience, thereby engaging children and their caregivers in a com- munal viewing experience. This is reflected in the Saturday tea-time (approxi- mately 5pm) scheduling of the original programme in the UK and in its current scheduling early on Saturday evenings (around 7pm). It thereby provides an opportunity for the inter-generational reproduction, or critique, of cultural and ethical norms through the stories it tells and especially the behavior of the central characters and their relations with alien ‘others’. The Doctor him- self is a member of an alien species, a Timelord from the planet Gallifrey, who has the technological capacity to travel through time and space. The Doctor appears human, with his alien-ness being marked by his technological prowess, longevity, nonhuman anatomy (such as having two hearts) and a range of character quirks that vary with each incarnation.

    Colin Baker. The Doctor who will be remembered by many readers of this article as the only actor to play the part indubitably to have been dismissed by his BBC employers. Even before this unhappy event his characterisation had proved one of the most controversial in the programme's history. ‘Change, my dear. And it seems not a moment too soon.’ Thus spoke the sixth Doctor as he confronted an incredulous Peri and a more accommodating audience in the final part of The Caves of Androzani on March 21, 1984. However, one could say that Colin Baker had been the Doctor for as long as seven months, as it had been in August 1983 that the BBC had presented him as the Fifth Doctor's successor. It was thought in some quarters at the time that Colin Baker was the ideal Doctor of the BBC executives, thought to be reflected in his much-reported ambition to outlast Tom Baker's seven season tenure, and in the outlandish costume premiered at the January photocall, indicating the contrast between the sixth Doctor's outspoken ebullience and his predecessor's subdued — some may think even bland — character. One criticism of the Peter Davison Doctor had been that he, and the stories in which he appeared, lacked humour. The secret of success appeared to lie in the overstatement for which it was thought the public remembered Tom Baker (still the Doctor to much of the audience in 1983/4) and this was reinforced in Colin's first script. ‘I am the Doctor, whether you like it or not.’ The Twin Dilemma was a decisive break with what had been built up over the previous four seasons, but in a sense fulfilled it.

We’ll begin and end the trip in London and meet up with old friends from the show, pop in to see Alex at the Who Shop, and perhaps make some new friends. While the final list of those who will come and meet us is still being compiled, previous Who Goes There? tours have met Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Tom Baker, Sophie Aldred, Nicola Bryant, Nick Courtenay, Caroline John, Elisabeth Sladen, Katy Manning, David Banks, and a host of others.
