  • Annual Report 2019
Annual Report 2018-2019 This annual report is a celebration of Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio’s vision for the new evangelization. Since the heart of evangelization is to introduce others to the saving presence and power of the Lord Jesus, any pastoral vision that seeks to explain in greater detail the work of evangelization must begin with an opportunity for personal reflection. If we seek to revitalize our Church, to bring new life to our mission to teach and preach the Gospel, and bring others to greater faith, then we must ask some serious questions of ourselves. What does it really mean to me to seek new life and vigor in Christ? What is really being asked of me? What attitudes must I change in my life before I can become an effective agent of evangelization in my family, parish, and neighborhood? FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 19, 2015 FOR FURTHER INFORMATION: Stefanie Gutierrez 917-587-2784 [email protected] Rocio Fidalgo 718-213-1955 [email protected] POPE FRANCIS NAMES TWO PRIESTS AS AUXILIARY BISHOPS FOR DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN Pope Francis has appointed two priests of the Diocese of Brooklyn – the Very Reverend James Massa, 54, and the Reverend Canon Witold Mroziewski, 49 – as auxiliary bishops of Brooklyn. Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, made the announcement public today in Washington, D.C. The Most Reverend Nicholas DiMarzio, Bishop of Brooklyn, will ordain the new bishops at a Mass of Episcopal Ordination to be celebrated at the Co-Cathedral of Saint Joseph on July 20, 2015 at 2 p.m. “These two men represent the very best of the Diocese. One is a parish priest who at heart is a missionary pouring himself out for others. The other is a teacher but in fact very much a father to the young men of our diocese and beyond who are studying to be priests,” said Bishop DiMarzio. “I am deeply appreciative to these men for their tireless efforts. Bishop-elect Massa and Bishop-elect Mroziewski are men of faith who daily communicate the great joy of the Gospel. Each has taken on incredibly challenging tasks and not simply excelled but did so in a way that has demonstrated outstanding leadership and personal holiness.” The Very Reverend James Massa was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, to the late Andrew and Irene Gilbert Massa. He attended Boston College and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Theology and History in 1982.

This year, the Novena took place from Jan. 21 to 29, provid- ing parishioners with daily refl ections and opportuni- ties for prayers and actions to promote the respect of all human life. “Every year, Diocese of Brooklyn parishioners attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C. to pray for an end to the tragedy of abortion. This year, due to the pan- demic, the March for Life is virtual, so attendance was not possible,” said Father Joseph Gibino, vicar for Evan- gelization and Catechesis. “But, here in our Diocese, we can pray in communion for the protection of all human life, either at one of our Masses or through this year’s special Novena.” On Jan. 21, the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph held the opening Mass for Life with strict health and safety guide- lines put in place. Deacon John Cantirino from Immac- ulate Heart of Mary Parish in Windsor Terrace, who an- nually walks in the March for Life, attended the Mass to keep his tradition alive in a similar fashion.
