OUTPOST The North West Region Newsletter www.marshals.co.uk/north Congratulations to Peter Preston-Hough and Andy Holley for their extremely successful organisation of this year’s Training Weekend. SPRING HAS SPRUNG - TIME FOR THE NADLINGS TO COME OUT!! CHAIRBEING’S SPRING SHOWERS Just a brief re-visitation of our training weekend. It was good to see so many of you. I just wish those of you who weren’t there had been. I hope that all of you who had the opportunity to do so did take part in the practical fire extinguishing exercises. Training prepares you for the “real thing”. Facing a vehicle fire FAST & FURIOUS can be a bit of a buttock-clencher but, if you are familiar with handling and operating an This is a film franchise. Archival Collection 26 Title: Karl E. Ludvigsen papers, 1905-2011. Creator: Ludvigsen, Karl E. Call Number: Archival Collection 26 Quantity: 931 cubic feet (514 flat archival boxes, 98 clamshell boxes, 29 filing cabinets, 18 record center cartons, 15 glass plate boxes, 8 oversize boxes). Abstract: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers 1905-2011 contain his extensive research files, photographs, and prints on a wide variety of automotive topics. The papers reflect the complexity and breadth of Ludvigsen’s work as an author, researcher, and consultant. Approximately 70,000 of his photographic negatives have been digitized and are available on the Revs Digital Library. Thousands of undigitized prints in several series are also available but the copyright of the prints is unclear for many of the images. Ludvigsen’s research files are divided into two series: Subjects and Marques, each focusing on technical aspects, and were clipped or copied from newspapers, trade publications, and manufacturer’s literature, but there are occasional blueprints and photographs. Some of the files include Ludvigsen’s consulting research and the records of his Ludvigsen Library. Scope and Content Note: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers are organized into eight series. The series largely reflects Ludvigsen’s original filing structure for paper and photographic materials. Series 1. Subject Files [11 filing cabinets and 18 record center cartons] The Subject Files contain documents compiled by Ludvigsen on a wide variety of automotive topics, and are in general alphabetical order. -

1981 March 811 AB
! 1981 March 811 Formula 1 Chassis Number: 811-05 • Beautifully presented following a full rebuild by Lyons Racing ready for the beginning of the 2016 season. • With only around 1.5 hours running since engine refresh, gearbox rebuild and component crack testing to comply with the FIA regulations, this March 811 offers an affordable opportunity to join the flourishing FIA Historic Formula 1 grid and get on track straight away. • Accompanied by a spares package, current FIA HTPs valid until December 2019, in date safety equipment and certification. In 1969 March Engineering was established by its four founders, Max Mosley, Alan Rees, Graham Coaker and Robin Herd, with the intention to become a racing car production business providing chassis for customers competing in all racing categories. March's launch was unprecedented in its breadth and impact. After building a single Formula Three car in 1969 March announced that they would be introducing customer cars for F1, F2, F3, Formula Ford and Can-Am in 1970, as well as running works F1, F2 and F3 teams. Their first inroad to F1 was the 701 chassis. That same year, Jackie Stewart gave March its first F1 victory in the non- championship Race of Champions in March and won the Spanish GP the following month. For the 1971 Formula 1 season, March came up with the remarkable 711 featuring an elliptical front wing, known as the "Tea Tray”. Ronnie Peterson finished runner-up in the World Championship without any wins, but five second places. The same year, he wrote history by finishing second in the closest and fastest GP race ever, at Monza. -
ETC Report from Team Eggenberger
WINNING WITH VOLVO - ETC report from Team Eggenberger This years European Touring Championship (ETC) season brought the big breakthrough for the Volvo 240 Turbo. The smooth, fast Volvo 240 Turbos have to date this year forged their way to no fewer than five first placings in nine competitions. An impressive series of victories on the European racetracks. Two different teams chose the Volvo 240 Turbo for this, the most prestigious race series in Europe after Formula 1. They are Magnum Racing, with team manager Mats Magnusson in Sweden, and Volvo Dealer Team Europe with team manager Rudi Eggenberger in Switzerland. Volvo Team Magnum have to date this year secured one victory, in Brno, Czeckoslovakia, and a second place at Anderstorp in Sweden. Team Eggenberger, with two Volvos, has an even more impressive record. Four firsts and three second places, and among the four best in five competitions. A series of victories to knock most competitors cold. A small, closely-knit team, Eggenberger, who has himself been a racing driver, has a rare ability to find winning constellations. He is not only a skilled technician, but also a leader who can win the confidence of his teammates. For Eggenberger, the key to success is efficiency - a small, but closely-knit team. In this sort of racing a large team and a big budget is no guarantee of success. Team Eggenberger has its headquarters in Lyss, just outside Bern, and close by Volvos head office in Switzerland. This is where the winning strategies are drawn up. Rudi Eggenberger and his drivers are an International team.
