Her paintings are an exploration of the connection between the natural and constructed worlds. Debbie trained as an illustrator and followed a profession as an art director for London publishers Dorling Kindersley and Frances Lincoln and then as an author/designer of a series of award winning children’s books. Moving to Australia 22 years ago, she was inspired by the light, texture and colour of our rugged coastlines to take up her easel and paints once more. Indeed, Perugia was one of the 12 city-states (Lucumone) of Etruria, which covered modern day Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and parts of Umbria, Lazio and Campania. The earliest settlements date back to the 11th and 10th centuries BC and were probably inhabited by Umbrian people. It was somewhat later, from the 8th century BC, that the Etruscans settled on the hill where the city sits today. It was important to them for strategic, military and commercial reasons. From the hill it was, of course, possible to dominate the important route of the river Tiber and keep watch over the bordering territories of the Umbrii people. There was bitter rivalry as well as fruitful trade between the Etruscans and the Umbrii. This was why the city was fortified with imposing travertine walls, which were so effective that they were also used during later eras. The walls that surrounded the city are visible and were incorporated into the medieval defence system.

Un avamposto etrusco sulla sinistra del Tevere Presentazione dei risultati delle indagini di superficie (maggio - giugno 2015) Luca Desibio This paper attempts to demonstrate the importance of the archaeological area of Copio, in province of Terni (Italy). Discov- ered for the first time in the 1980 by the local historian then mentioned in 2001 and in 2003 in two different archaeological publications, the site of Copio started to arouse interest for its position, lying on a hilltop above one of the most interesting pre-Roman necropolis of Umbria (Vallone di San Lorenzo). The link between the well-known necropolis and Copio is today well-accepted. The aim of this paper, based on a field-walking survey and the analisys of the archaeological finds, is to demonstrate the importance of this area during the pre-Roman period as a commercial bridgehead linked to Volsinii. Strate- gically lying only one km to east from the Tiber, it should have enjoyed this important and commercial path for the local trade moving goods in incoming and outcoming. Dal punto di vista geomorfologico il sito corrisponde ad un rilievo collinare (203 m s.l.m.) di depositi allu- vionali terrazzati dell’Oleocene non in rapporto con la morfologia attuale, mentre le sue pendici appaiono for- mate prevalentemente da sabbie gialle medio-fini e litofacies conglomeratica risalenti al Pliocene medio1.
