How to Build an Optimum Cycling City Environment? INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE HOW TO BUILD AN OPTIMUM CYCLING CITY ENVIRONMENT? CONNECTIVITY AND ROAD SAFETY 3rd & 4th June 2014 Antiq Palace Hotel Ljubljana, Slovenia The project CycleCities - European cities for integrating cycling within sustainable mobility management schemes is co-financed by the European Union’s Regional Development Fund 1 and made possible by the INTERREG IVC programme. CycleCities – a route to the future BSC Kranj – Regional Development Agency of Gorenjska is delighted to invite you to the 1st international CycleCities Conference: HOW TO BUILD AN OPTIMUM CYCLING CITY ENVIRONMENT? CONNECTIVITY AND ROAD SAFETY In the 21st century Europe cycling is a fast growing segment of European cities’ transport systems. Cycling is of strategic importance in the sustainable development of our cities. However, despite the growth of cycling, there is still significant potential for improving the integration of cycling into the transport network – across Europe there are positive examples of good practice and others examples of cities exploring the field. CycleCities project aims to carry out the transfer of experience and exchanges of good practice among European cities, as well as to build up a knowledge base documenting the successful integration of cycling into improving traffic conditions and city environments. Eight partners from seven European countries: United Kingdom, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Slovenia, joined together with a common interest to create optimum cycle cities. One of the main challenges in the development of cycling in cities of today is how to ensure good connectivity and safety for bicycling. Lack of space, co-ordination and the demands of other transport modes often prevents city authorities from providing direct connections to key trip generators in their city and balancing desire lines with high level of road safety to encourage the growth in mode share particularly the inexperienced and vulnerable. The conference will present some of latest thinking from across Europe for creating good connectivity and road safety of cycling in a city and provide a forum to discuss optimum solutions from various perspectives of different stakeholders: spatial and transport planning authorities, road infrastructure design and construction business, road safety agencies, cycling advocacy organisations etc. The conference will be followed by the 5th interregional CycleCities Forum and 5th interregional CycleCities Workshop. The participants of the forum and workshop will have an opportunity to experience challenges and explore solutions for more and safer cycling in the city of Ljubljana. As one of the most ambitious “climber” cities in Europe the city has recently set ambitious plans and undertaken various measures to double the share of cycling in a modal split of the city from current 10% till 2020. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The participation on the conference, forum and workshop is free but pre-registration is necessary. Number of participants is limited. Please fill in the enclosed REGISTRATION FORM and send it to e-mail [email protected] or fax +386 4 28 17 249 by 28th May 2014. The project focuses on promoting and supporting a broad take-up of SUMPs especially in countries / regions and cities where the take up is so far so low. It aims to achieve this through providing mechanisms and tools for national / regional agencies to take a leading role in the development of SUMPs; building professional capacity through peer-to-peer exchange programmes and tailor-made training programmes on various aspects of SUMPs and/or innovative approaches in sustainable urban mobility. PAPERS Dela 48 ● 2017 ● 33–59 A MODEL OF COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT OF DERELICT LAND AS A SUPPORT FOR SUSTAINABLE SPATIAL AND DEVELOPMENT PLANNING IN SLOVENIA Barbara Lampič*, PhD., Simon Kušar*, PhD., Alma Zavodnik Lamovšek**, PhD. *Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, Aškerčeva 2, SI-1000 Ljubljana **Chair of Spatial Planning, Department of Geodetic Engineering, Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana, Jamova 2, SI-1000 Ljubljana e-mail: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Original scientific article COBISS 1.01 DOI: 10.4312/dela.48.2.5-59 Abstract This paper investigates the characteristics of functionally derelict areas in Slovenia, criteria for their identification, typology and arguments for further monitoring, and regular updating of this new spatial and data layer. Both specifying the precise location and knowledge of characteristics of derelict areas, i.e. brownfields, are an important step towards sustainable planning and placement of activities. In 2017, we recorded 1081 functionally derelict areas in Slovenia in a total area of 3423 ha, with a prevalence of areas of industrial activities. Keywords: functional derelict area (FDA), records, identification criteria, typology, monitoring, spatial planning, sustainable development 1 INTRODUCTION The rapid spatial development dynamics is strongly affected by increasingly fast so cial and economic changes. On the one hand, we are faced with increasing requirements of investors for new areas to develop activities and, on the other hand, the increasing dynamics in suspending the already established activities, which leads to various types of degradation, particularly physical deterioration of space.

This article examines the creation of the new landscape layer of modern cultivated terraces and studies their disappearance and the return to a condition similar to the original state. The analysis is based on interviews and visual interpretation of aerial laser scanning (lidar) data. It focuses on the state of the landscape before terracing, the creation of terraces and formation of a terraced landscape, and its most recent transformation into slopes without terraces. It is determined that, despite the recognized aesthet- ic value of terraces, legal protection in the form of a nature park has not impacted their preservation because 56% of them have already been leveled.
