I can still remember the day seven years ago when my husband suggested I should go to college. Although I was hesitant, I decided to give it a try. I enrolled in my first anthropology class during my first semester as an undergraduate student at Wichita State University in the spring of 1998. Dr. Dorothy Billings taught the class, which was General Anthropology. Thank you Dr. Billings for your inspiration and continuous support. I never dreamed I would make it this far but here I am. I would like to express my deepest thanks and appreciation to all my former professors in the Anthropology Department at Wichita State University for their guidance and support while achieving my goal to become an anthropologist. vii CHAPTER I THE MORGAN COLLECTION WEBSITE PROJECT During the spring of 2002, the Lowell D. Holmes Museum of Anthropology at Wichita State University received a major collection of Southwest pottery donated by Mr. John A. Morgan, an alumnus of WSU (Figure 10). The collection contains 112 pots, made by the pueblo people of New Mexico and Arizona in the American Southwest. Most of the pots were made from 1900 to present. Along with the pottery collection Mr. Morgan donated over 250 books, magazines and exhibition catalogs on

A thin sheet of aluminum used in lithography for some press plates; image applied photographically; used for both surface-type and deep-etch offset plates. Aperture. A small opening in a plate or sheet. In cameras, the aperture is usually variable in the form of an iris diaphragm and regulates the amount of light which passes through the lens. The working aperture is the diameter of that part of the lens actually used. Asphaltum. A bituminous mixture used as an acid resist or protectant in photomechanics. In lithography, used to make printing image on press plate permanently ink-receptive. Autoscreen (Film). A photographic film embodying the halftone screen; exposed to a continuous-tone image, produces a dot pattern automatically just as if a halftone screen had been used in the camera. Backing-Up. Printing the other side, of a printed sheet. Back Pressure. The squeeze pressure between the blanket (offset) cylinder and the impression cylinder; sometimes called "impression pressure." Base Color. A first color used as a background on which other colors are printed.

Capps, Harold S. Colton, S. Cooper, Robert Fronske, Marc Gaede, Parker Hamilton, Lyndon L. Hargrave, Neil Judd, A.J. "Lex" Lindsay, P. Long, M. Middleton, T. Nichols, L. W. Smith, C. Turner, W.M. Wells, and Barton Wright. Organizational History: In 1959, the Photography Department and position of Photographer created by director Dr. E. B. Danson, with Parker Hamilton as MNA’s first Assistant in Photography, later that year promoted to Photographer. Prior to 1959, the photo archives were a part of the Publications Department but not under the management of a photographer. In 1960, a large-scale cataloging initiative of new and old prints, negatives, and slides was undertaken. A photography studio and cataloging room was established in Fleischman Hall (now Schaeffer) in 1965. An inventory was made of negatives in June 1969 which noted missing negatives. By the early 1980s the Photography Department became the Photo Archives, reflecting a shift in focus from active photography to preservation of and access to existing materials. An inventory of negatives was done again in February 1988 with notes made of missing negatives. The Photo Archives moved to the Library in 1995. In 2005, the Photo Archives ceased operation as a department, and staff photography became the responsibility of the Marketing Department while the care of materials and use requests were the responsibility of the Library staff. The Photo Archives were made the responsibility of the Archivist in 2008.

    1 New Mexico’s Tribal Collaboration Act: What are the Impacts of a Legislative Imperative for State And Tribal Relations?1 By Linda Moon Stumpff PhD Abstract: The 23 Tribes of New Mexico have a long history of intergovernmental relations beginning with inter-tribal relationships among diverse Tribes and extending to the periods of Spanish colonial rule, Mexican rule, and finally establishing the federal relationship with the United States. The 23 recognized Tribes constitute over 10% of the State’s population. Tribes are represented in both legislative and executive branches of New Mexico today in a continuously evolving relationship. Although the relationship continues to be strengthened through the self-determination and self-governance initiatives carried out by Tribes, it has also become politicized. This case explores the history of the development of tribal relationships with the State of New Mexico, the resulting impacts, and lessons about intergovernmental relationships. A Brief History This case explores the question of how state government-to-government relationships affect both tribal and state sovereignty and the conditions that impact the effectiveness of state-tribal institutional development in New Mexico. Many different models for state-tribal relations exist and more continue to emerge (Kaufmann, et. aI., Smith, 2018). In New Mexico formal state-tribal relations began in 1953 when the Commission on Indian Affairs and the Office of Indian Affairs were created by legislative statute. A major change occurred when Governor Richardson elevated the Director of the Office of Indian Affairs to the level of his Cabinet in 2003. This was the culmination of years of changing federal policy and the increasing importance of state-tribal relations.
