UNC Charlotte Counseling Center/Athletics Department Sport Psychologist

The Counseling Center at the University of at Charlotte is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time 12-month position as Sport Psychologist, to begin on or around August 1, 2017. The position works jointly in the Athletics Department and the Counseling Center with approximately 20 hours per week in each setting. Responsibilities include individual and group therapy to students and student-athletes; consultation with faculty, athletic department, coaches and other staff, and students; general outreach programming and educational presentations on sport psychology; and psychological assessment. This position will also collaboratively deliver clinical services to student-athletes in an effort to enhance personal, academic, and athletic performance. Additionally, the position is responsible for the continued development and implementation of philosophies, procedures, and policies of psychological services for student-athletes.

Required qualifications include a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an accredited institution of higher learning, eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in North Carolina, completion of an APA-accredited doctoral internship, strong counseling skills within a brief therapy model, and clinical experience with young adults. Candidates must have familiarity and understanding of intercollegiate athletics and athletics department culture.

Preferred qualifications include experience working with high-level athletes, preferably in the collegiate setting; expertise in strengths-based psychological skills training; credentials as a Certified Consultant from the Association for Applied Sports Psychology (AASP); strong presentation skills; experience in a university counseling center; and demonstrated ability to collaborate within the Center and throughout the university community. Strong preference will be given to candidates with clinical experience and demonstrated collaboration, advocacy, and liaison relationships with diverse student populations. Salary and benefits are competitive. The UNC Charlotte Counseling Center is IACS- accredited and is an APA-accredited doctoral internship site.

The UNC Charlotte Counseling Center is a vibrant workplace, providing individual, group, and outreach services to a highly diverse student body and significant consultation services to the community. The Center offers training to beginning and advanced practicum students in psychology, counseling, and social work, to students in our APA-accredited doctoral program, and to a postdoctoral resident. We are moving into a newly constructed building this year and expanding our staff to meet increased enrollment and student demand.

The Charlotte 49ers are UNC Charlotte’s NCAA Division I athletic program. Members of Conference USA, the Charlotte 49ers boast 18 NCAA sports. Male sports are , , cross- country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. Female sports

are basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, golf, and volleyball.
