1) FORMAL ()

Formal dr ess consists of an evening , black tr ousers, a whit e plain sti皐-fr onted cotton shir t with a wing collar , a waistcoat, a whit e and whit e gloves. During the Conferment Cer emony and the Chur ch ser vice the waistcoat is black, otherwise whit e. No wristwatches should be used. F ob chains should not be t oo visible.

Shoes should be black (polished leather or pat ent leather). should be black as well. The over coat should be a dark dr ess coat or a . The scar , if needed, is whit e.

2) LADIES’ COL OURFUL DRESS FOR THE WREA TH-BINDING / SWORD-WHETTING D AY

The evening gown should be full-length and of another colour than black or whit e. A décolleté gown is permitt ed.

3) THE WHITE DRESS OF FEMALE PROMO VENDI (MAS TERS) AND WREATH-BINDRESSES DURING THE CONFERMENT CEREMONY

Young female mast ers and the wr eath-bindresses t o young mast ers wear a whit e, full-length gown that is not décollet é. In the cont ext of Conferment Cer emonies ‘whit e’ is a shade of whit e that r esembles whit e copying paper . The uniformity of the shade of white is of major signi癰cance.

Suitable mat erials ar e e.g. muslin, Dupion or . Whit e embr oidery is permitt ed. Too see-thr ough mat erials or embr oidery with colour or metal thr ead should be avoided. T rimmings, such as sequins or paillett es ar e not allowed.

A gown is consider ed full-length if the covers the malleoli. The sleeves should be full-length as well, the neckline as high as possible. Please bear in mind that promovendi have t o go up and down a lar ge number of st eps. Thus any kind of tr ains are inconvenient. The gown should not be t oo br oad and slits not t oo long.

Gloves should be whit e and of such length that no bar e skin is visible between the gloves and the sleeves. Lace gloves should not be used.

Shoes should be whit e and closed fr om the tip and heels. ar e not permitt ed. A discreet and / or can be worn. Only or rings are permitt ed t o be worn alongside the mast er’s ring.

No or clutch bags ar e permitt ed. A secr et pock et inside the gown can therefore be convenient.

4) THE BLA CK DRESS OF FEMALE PROMO VENDI (DOC TORS) AND SWORD-WHETTERESSES DURING THE CONFERMENT CEREMONY

The female doct ors and jubilee mast ers and the female companions of all doct ors and jubilee mast ers wear a black, full-length gown that is not décollet é. Sleeves should be long. Shoes and gloves should be black. All instructions in it em 3 ar e applicable (bearing in mind that ever ything whit e is black).

5) THE DRESS OF FEMALE PROMO VENDI AND COMP ANIONS A T THE CONFERMENT DINNER AND THE BALL

For the Conferment Dinner the same gown that was used during the day is a popular choice. Also a gown with shor ter sleeves is permitt ed. A t oo conspicuous décollet é or a bear back should be avoided.

During the Ball the same dr ess that has been used during the Cer emony or the Dinner can be used. A mor e décollet é with a br oader hem is permissible. Each group follows its principal colour (i.e. whit e or black). The length of gloves (which ar e compulsory) depends on the length of the sleeves. A or clutch bag is permitted albeit not during the actual dancing.

6) THE DRESS OF MALE GUES TS A T THE CONFERMENT CEREMONY

Guests following the Cer emony in the Gr eat Hall should follow the instruction in it em 1. The wearing of (F ull Dr ess) is also permitt ed. Gloves ar e not worn. F or guest following the Cer emony at other locations a lounge suit is a good option.

7) THE DRESS OF FEMALE GUES TS A T THE CONFERMENT CEREMONY

Guests sitting inside the Gr eat Hall should follow the instructions given t o female promovendi (doct ors) in it em 4. No gloves ar e worn.

If following the Cer emony outside the Gr eat Hall the instructions r egarding what t o wear are mor e liber al. Shor t sleeves ar e however not desir able and colours should be discreet. No kinds of bags ar e allowed inside the Gr eat Hall or the C athedral.

8) THE DRESS OF FEMALE GUES TS A T THE CONFERMENT DINNER AND THE BALL

Female guests should wear a gown that has some other colour than black or whit e as primary colour . The optimum would be not using black or whit e at all. Jeweller y is permitted. Other wise the instructions in it em 5 ar e applicable.
