Jazyky, jež se vyvíjejí souběžně s lidskými komunitami, si nejen osvojujeme a užíváme, ale zároveň je i zkoumáme. Výzkum jazyků má v obecné rovině v celosvětovém měřítku velmi dlouhou tradici. Na jeho vývoj mají významný vliv nejen „tradiční“ vědní disciplíny, jako například lingvistika, literární věda, pedagogika, historie, ale i postupně se etablující vědy novější, mezi něž patří například sociolingvistika, psy- cholingvistika, kontaktní nebo areálová lingvistika či didaktika cizích jazyků. Jak již částečně naznačují některé výše zmíněné vědní disciplí- ny, ovlivňuje výzkum jazyků společensko-politický vývoj konkrétního časově ohraničeného období v konkrétním sociokulturním a regionálně vymezeném kontextu. Jednou z hlavních výzev a požadavků současné společnosti je vedle rozvoje funkční mnohojazyčnosti jedince rovněž re- spektování jazykové a kulturní rozmanitosti, vnímání jazyka jako feno- ménu určujícího a rozvíjejícího identitu člověka a jako součásti sdíleného dědictví. V tomto pojetí se stala konference Němčina bez hranic příležitostí k me- zinárodní vědecké diskusi o aktuálním vývoji v oblasti multi-dimenzi- onálně a transnacionálně pojímané germanistické lingvistiky a literární vědy, vybraných společenských věd a didaktiky němčiny jako cizího ja- zyka v evropském kontextu. Čtyřdílný sborník obsahuje většinu teoretických a empirických příspěv- ků, které byly prezentovány v průběhu této konference, jež se konala na Pedagogické a Filozoické fakultě Jihočeské univerzity v Českých Budě- jovicích v září 2014. Jejím hlavním organizátorem byl Svaz germanistů České republiky. Konference se zúčastnilo 142 odborníků z 11 zemí. V tomto úvodu bychom rádi poskytli stručný přehled témat, která se stala předmětem odborné diskuse ve čtyřech sekcích. Plenární přednášky V zahajovací části konference byly předneseny čtyři příspěvky k vybra- ným aspektům teoretického i empirického výzkumu zaměřeného na germanistickou lingvistiku, literární vědu a didaktiku němčiny jako cizího jazyka. N. R. Wolf ve svém příspěvku ověřoval svoji tezi „němčina 9 je bez hranic“ z hlediska lexikologie, areálové lingvistiky a vývoje jazyků. V. Bok se věnoval středověké německé literatuře na území jižních Čech, příhraničního regionu, v němž se setkávají tři jazyky literárního dědictví. E. Mehnertová představila výsledky svého výzkumného šetření, v němž sleduje vztah Hannse Cibulky, německého spisovatele a básníka, k Česku jako zemi svého původu, do níž se po druhé světové válce již nemohl vrátit. H. Schweiger se zabýval literárními texty s transnacionálním ob- sahem ve výuce němčiny jako cizího jazyka s cílem rozvoje jazykového a kulturního povědomí. Sekce Jednání probíhalo ve 4 sekcích: (1) lingvistika, (2) literární věda, (3) didaktika němčiny jako cizího jazyka a (4) společenské vědy. V lingvistické sekci byl tematizován fenomén „hranice“ jako jednoho z klíčových témat v oblasti současného lingvistického výzkumu. Jednot- livé příspěvky se zaměřovaly na osvětlení otázky, zda je jazyk jako pro- středek komunikace opravdu bez hranic a zda mohou, mají, či dokonce musí být stanoveny hranice, abychom mohli porozumět přirozeným jazykům a popsat je na metajazykové úrovni. Tato problematika byla re- lektována z hlediska kontrastivní a interkulturní lingvistiky v kontextu domácího i zahraničního výzkumu. V literární sekci byla pozornost zaměřena na tu německy psanou lite- raturu, která boří pojem “národní literatury”, a to nejen vzhledem k její jazykové formě, tedy zda je psána v češtině nebo

    Abstract This dissertation explores the prisoner society in Terezín (Theresienstadt) ghetto, a transit ghetto in the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. Nazis deported here over 140, 000 Czech, German, Austrian, Dutch, Danish, Slovak, and Hungarian Jews. It was the only ghetto to last until the end of Second World War. A microhistorical approach reveals the dynamics of the inmate community, shedding light on broader issues of ethnicity, stratification, gender, and the political dimension of the “little people” shortly before they were killed. Rather than relegating Terezín to a footnote in narratives of the Holocaust or the Second World War, my work connects it to Central European, gender, and modern Jewish histories. A history of victims but also a study of an enforced Central European society in extremis, instead of defining them by the view of the perpetrators, this dissertation studies Terezín as an autarkic society. This approach is possible because the SS largely kept out of the ghetto. Terezín represents the largest sustained transnational encounter in the history of Central Europe, albeit an enforced one. Although the Nazis deported all the inmates on the basis of their alleged Jewishness, Terezín did not produce a common sense of Jewishness: the inmates were shaped by the countries they had considered home. Ethnicity defined culturally was a particularly salient means of differentiation. The dynamics connected to ethnic categorization and class formation allow a deeper understanding of cultural and national processes in Central and Western Europe in the twentieth century. The society in Terezín was simultaneously interconnected and stratified. There were no stark contradictions between the wealthy and majority of extremely poor prisoners.

Roselaar Introduction During a Round Table Discussion convened by Dr Walter Bock and Dr Henri Ouellet at the XXI International Ornithological Congress in Vienna, 20–25 August 1994, a number of staff members of European ornithological collections expressed the opinion that more cooperation among them was desirable. Many museums suffer from shrinking budgets, making improvement, maintenance, or even access to the collections difficult. Maintaining the world’s biodiversity is of major concern among biologists at the moment, and although this concern is also acknowledged by various governments it has not resulted in any additional support for museum ornithology. Bird collections form a rich source of biodiversity data. Taxonomic information in regional and global handbooks can only be extracted from museum collections. Morphometric data taken from skins of various populations are of importance for unravelling migration patterns for instance. Population studies profit from collections of specimens of known age and sex. Reference collections for identification and training will always be needed, both for laymen (e.g. rarity committees) and scientists (e.g. as help in enforcement of CITES and other national and international nature conservation legislation, for the statistics of bird/aircraft collisions, archaeology, and in ecological studies). Recently, bird skins or feathers have acquired additional relevance as a source of DNA for phylogenetic and population studies. Biochemical data have become a major source of phylogenetic information, from the level of populations up to the level of phyla, but can only be interpreted with reference to collections of entire organisms.
