Hope Lutheran The Grapevine Church April 22, 2020

OFFICE HOURS The Original Shelter-In-Place Order 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday—Friday During the COVID-19 Dear Siblings in Christ, quarantine Pastors My thoughts these past few days have been on the story of Noah’s Ark. I’m certain we Rev. Gary Stevenson all know the story. In short, God directs Noah to build an ark because of an upcoming storm, Lead Pastor Noah collects his family and pairs of animals who fill the ark. During the 40 days and nights of rain the ark is afloat on the water, Noah’s family has seen no one but family and the animals they Rev. Adam Knudson had brought with them. Even after the rain stops, Genesis 7:28 says the waters swelled on the Associate Pastor Youth and earth for another one hundred fifty days! Family Ministries

It was only then the water began to recede. First the tops of the mountains came into view, but even then it was another 40 days until Noah opened the window of the ark and sent Administrative out the raven to see if there might be a place to land and disembark. There wasn’t, as the raven Assistant returned. In another couple of weeks, Noah sent out a dove which returned with an olive Jennifer Hurt branch in its beak. A week after that the dove was sent out again and this time it did not return. Soon thereafter Noah and family stepped off the ark and allowed the animals to go free.

Office Manager I’m aware there are many of us already tired of our current shelter-in-place situation. Myra Squeo For those who were already feeling alone and cut off from others prior to the restrictions, this entire ordeal may feel a bit like a sentence instead of a method of curbing the potential spread of

the virus. I’m also aware, however, of some for whom this time is a gift as it allows them time Learning Tree with family to make some wonderful memories.

Cyndi Gomez Director I encourage each of us to take some time and consider those among us who may be forgotten at this time. Too many times people who are alone fall between the cracks. Those who wrestle with depression or feelings of abandonment may be thrown further down the spiral that leads to despair and hopelessness. Instead of waiting until this situation is resolved I encourage you to reach out today. Don’t wait. Because even as we shelter-in-place, life continues on; and some who we expect to see when everything is over may no longer be with us when the time finally comes.

Was Noah and his family part of the original “shelter-in-place” program? Maybe so. It’s important to remember, even though they were afloat with no idea when the ordeal would end and they would be able to return to normal, their knowledge of God’s presence helped sustain them.

Try out our QR God remains with us through this as well – and God remains with those who feel most Code above by cut off and abandoned. Please reach out to one another and let them know they are not scanning with your forsaken either by you or by God. Together we will make it. phone to give a secure donation to Your Partner in Ministry, Hope Lutheran Pastor Gary Church. Page 2 The Grapevine Our Mission Friday Men’s Bible Study
