  • The Paperboys Workshops 092515
The Paperboys Workshops Celtic Fiddle Kalissa Landa teaches this hands-on workshop covering Irish, Scottish, Cape Breton and Ottawa Valley styles. The class covers bow technique, ornamentation, lilts, slurs, slides etc. and includes reels, jigs, polkas, airs and strathspeys. Kalissa has been playing fiddle since before she could walk, and dedicates much of her time to teaching both children and adults. She runs the fiddle program at the prestigious Vancouver Academy of Music. For beginners, intermediate, or advanced fiddlers. Celtic Flute/Whistle Paperboys flute/whistle player Geoffrey Kelly will have you playing a jig or a reel by the end of the class. While using the framework of the melody, you will learn many of the ornaments used in Celtic music, including slides, rolls, trills, hammers etc. We will also look at some minor melody variations, and where to use them in order to enhance the basic melody. Geoffrey is a founding member of Spirit of the West, a four-year member of the Irish Rovers, and the longest serving Paperboy. Geoffrey has composed many of the Paperboys’ instrumentals. Latin Music Overview In this workshop, the Paperboys demonstrate different styles of Latin Music, stopping to chat about them and break down their components. It's a Latin Music 101 for students to learn about the different kinds of genres throughout Latin America, including but not limited to Salsa, Merengue, Mexican Folk Music, Son Jarocho, Cumbia, Joropo, Norteña, Son Cubano, Samba, and Soca. This is more of a presentation/demonstration, and students don't need instruments. Latin Percussion Percussionist/Drummer Sam Esecson teaches this hands-on workshop, during which he breaks down the different kinds of percussion in Latin music.

A COMPARISON ANALYSIS OF AMERICAN AND BRITISH IDIOMS By: NANIK FATMAWATI NIM: 206026004290 ENGLISH LETTERS DEPARTMENT LETTERS AND HUMANITIES FACULTY STATE ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY “SYARIF HIDAYATULLAH” JAKARTA 2011 ABSTRACT Nanik Fatmawati, A Comparison Analysis of American Idioms and British Idioms. A Thesis: English Letters Department. Adab and Humanities Faculty. Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, 2011 In this paper, the writer uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analysis by comparing and analyzing from the dictionary and short story. The dictionary that would be analyzed by the writer is English and American Idioms by Richard A. Spears and the short story is you were perfectly fine by John Millington Ward. Through this method, the writer tries to find the differences meaning between American idioms and British idioms. The collected data are analyzed by qualitative using the approach of deconstruction theory. English is a language particularly rich in idioms – those modes of expression peculiar to a language (or dialect) which frequently defy logical and grammatical rules. Without idioms English would lose much of its variety and humor both in speech and writing. The results of this thesis explain the difference meaning of American and British Idioms that is found in the dictionary and short story. i ii iii DECLARATION I hereby declare that this submission is my original work and that, to the best of my knowledge and belief, it contains no material previously published or written by another person nor material which to a substantial extent has been accepted for the award of any other degree or diploma of the university or other institute of higher learning, except where due acknowledgement has been made in the text.

  • SOUL ASYLUM Biography by Arthur Levy
SOUL ASYLUM biography by Arthur Levy “It’s a crazy mixed up world out there, Someone’s always got a gun and it’s all about money You live with loneliness, or you live with somebody who’s crazy It’s just a crazy mixed up world …” (“Crazy Mixed Up World”) Chapter 1. Every Cloud Has One Renewed and revitalized, Soul Asylum founders Dave Pirner and Dan Murphy return to rock’s front line with THE SILVER LINING, their first new studio release since 1998’s Candy From a Stranger. That album inadvertently kicked off a seven-year sabbatical for the group, which telescoped into the death of bassist Karl Mueller in June 2005, the other founding member of the triumvirate that has steered Soul Asylum through rock’s white water for the past two decades plus. The re-emergence of the group on THE SILVER LINING is as much a reaffirmation of Soul Asylum’s commitment to the music as it is a dedication to Karl, who worked and played on the album right up until the end. They were joined in the studio by not-so-new heavyweight Minneapolis drummer Michael Bland (who has played with everyone from Paul Westerberg to Prince). The band is now complemented by Tommy Stinson on bass, a member of fellow Twin Cities band the Replacements since age 13, and a pal of Dan’s since he was in high school and Tommy in junior high. Tommy was the only friend that Karl could endorse to replace himself in the band. This hard-driving lineup was introduced for the first time in October 2005, when they played sold-out showcase dates at First Avenue in Minneapolis and the Bowery Ballroom in New York – within three days.
