OUR PARISH COMMUNITY MISSION STATEMENT We, the family of St. Angela Merici, a welcoming community with a rich heritage, live out our Baptismal call to become the Body of Christ through Eucharist, Evangelization and Stewardship.

CALLED TO BE HOLY

On this second Sunday of Ordinary Time, the readings tell us about God’s relationship with Israel and John the Baptist’s relationship with Jesus. Israel’s relationship with God is so close, so intimate, that it is through Israel that God’s “salvation [will] reach to the ends of the earth” (Isaiah 49:6). But we know from John the Baptist that for Israel to accomplish God’s will, it must also recognize that Jesus is the Son of God. During these weeks we also get to know Jesus. We begin to understand more deeply our relationship to Jesus and what that relationship means for us, who are “called to be holy”(1 Corinthians 1:2). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

St. Angela Merici

Saint Angela Merici was born in a small Italian town in 1474. When she was fifteen years old, she and her older sister were orphaned and went to live with their uncle. Later, her sister suddenly died, and when she was twenty, her uncle also died.

At various points in her life, Angela Merici is said to have had visions instructing her to found a society of women to educate other young women. Eventually, Angela Merici founded the Company of St. Ursula, which became the Ursuline Order. The women dedicated themselves to elevating family life through Christian Education.

Next weekend, after mass, join us in the hall to celebrate and learn about the ministries of our parish.

The many ministries of our parish are a fraction of the ways that the people of Angela Merici live out our Baptismal Call to love God by loving and serving others.

Next weekend, our parish will celebrate the Memorial of Saint Angela Merici, our patroness and the foundress of the Ursuline Order. Saint Angela Merici left her mark on the history of the Church by making sure girls had equal access to education at a time in history when that was not a presumed right.

At the Ministry Fair, our parish community will celebrate how we are living out Gospel Values and offering support in our own time.

COME ONE AND COME ALL!

Please join us downstairs in the Hall to celebrate our ministries and thank our ministers.

If you are new to the parish, please come and take advantage of this opportunity to meet parishioners, learn about the parish, and enjoy some expanded hospitality.

The ministry fair is for EVERYONE!! There will be a free raffle and good fun.

Michael Reid is an Episcopal priest, author, co-founder and organizer of the Fund for Homeless Women of the Community Foundation for Monterey County. He served 20 years as a nonprofit leader before going on to semi- nary, then six years of parish ministry at St. Mary’s by the Sea Episcopal Church in Pacific Grove.
