A teraz odpowiedź dłuższa: jeśli chodzi o sukcesy Stasi na Zachodzie, mówimy – ciągnąc dalej tę metaforę – o przebiegu samej gry aż do końcowego gwizdka. -

Through a series of chance encounters, followed by careful planning, a group of archaeologists and historians created an opportunity to explore and document well-preserved remnants of industrial activity on the archipelago of Svalbard during August 2004. A purposefully-international consortium of scholars and students from six nations gathered to study and record the remains of coal-mining sites dating from the first decades of the twentieth century. This collaboration not only crossed national boundaries, but generational boundaries, as well, since it included an explicit component of teaching the methods and perspectives of industrial archaeology to a rising generation of scholars. This report describes the process and the products of the International Field Course in Arctic Industrial Heritage. -

Heritage Survey of the Arctic Coal Company Summary Report for the Svalbard Environmental Protection Fund
Heritage Survey of the Arctic Coal Company Summary Report for the Svalbard Environmental Protection Fund Research Results The 2008 Heritage Survey project took place between July 19th and August 7th 2008 in Tromsø, Norway and the Isfjorden, Svalbard. It focused on the history of an American coal mining company, the Arctic Coal Company (ACC), an early 20th century bituminous coal endeavor responsible for much of the early mining development on Spitsbergen. Archival research at the Statsarkivet i Tromsø uncovered excellent information on the history of the ACC, especially on its early development and on the planning and development of Mine 1 (also known as the American Mine), Longyear Valley. Archaeological survey and documentation efforts in three areas of the Isfjorden completed Michigan Technological University’s (MTU) broad survey of ACC remains, and documented several important historic structures. MTU graduate students Seth DePasqual and Cameron Hartnell undertook the project. Results of the project Tromsø The project team completed five days of research at the Statsarkivet i Tromsø, from July 21 - 25. The archive manages 241-box collection of documentary material on the ACC, much of which MTU is not available in other archival collections. The project team’s primary focus was to complete gaps in historic research, particularly the period from 1902 to 1907, and uncover additional information on the history and development of Mine 1, Longyear Valley. The team followed a carefully designed protocol to work through the collection. We first identified relevant documents and then transcribed, digitally scanned or photographed them, as appropriate. This approach scanned and photographed documents (correspondence, photographs or plans) with a specific file name and noted these on a research log. -

Like in other industrialized countries, the first applications of steel wire ropes were on land transport systems. Bozen/Bolzano 6 - 9 June 2017 THE FUNICULARS Two types of ropeways systems are developed: - With the rope wound on board drive pulleys, telodynamic system or Agudio’s system; - With the rope permanently attached to the vehicles, classic funicular. Bozen/Bolzano 6 - 9 June 2017 Tommaso Agudio Mechanical engineer, born in Malgrate (LC) in 1827, famous are his “Agudio Patents” for climbing the slopes with fixed machinery plants. The first significant Italian experimental ropeway in Dusino 1861-1865, has to be attributed to him. The main difference between the Agudio’s system (he himself called "telodynamic") and the classic funicular system is that the rope was not connected to the vehicle. The ropes (AS and ES) wind up on two or more drive pulleys which, by grip, transmit the motion to the internal mechanisms of the vehicle. -
