2017 Resource Guide_CMYK.indd 1 5/30/17 12:18 PM WELCOME STATE FLAG/"BURGEE-SHAPED"

FROM GOVERNOR JOHN R. KASICH AND STATE FAIR GENERAL MANAGER VIRGIL L. STRICKLER

Welcome to the Ohio State Fair! This year we celebrate the 164th edition of a treasured Ohio tradition. With entertainment, education and excitement – plus all the great food – our great State Fair is a landmark event each summer for my family, just as it is for families from across Ohio and beyond.

By bringing all of us together to share and enjoy the best the Buckeye State has to offer, the Fair lets us celebrate the values and traditions that make Ohio great: our diverse industrial and cultural heritage, our rich natural resources and, most of all, Ohio agriculture and those in our state who devote their lives to farming. John R. Kasich Governor Believe me, there’s no better way to appreciate first-hand the diversity and wonder of Ohio’s amazing people, places and products. Enjoy your visit to the Ohio State Fair.

The very first Ohio State Fair opened its gates in 1850, and we will open our gates for the 164th time this July. The gates themselves have changed - we've only been here at the Ohio Expo Center since 1886 - but the purpose remains: to put on a great Fair celebrating our great state’s products, people and their accomplishments.

Whether you will be attending for the first time or if your family has long made a tradition of visiting the State Fair, you will undoubtedly leave with memories that will last a lifetime. During the Fair’s 12-day run, you’ll find free entertainment stages, interactive educational activities, strolling performers, Virgil L. Strickler, CFE sporting events, a fine arts show, great live music, hands-on General Manager, agricultural learning, a free petting zoo, livestock competitions, Ohio Expo Center big-name concerts, mouthwatering food, plenty of exciting rides & State Fair and an eight-acre natural resources park with free kiddie fishing and more.

I hope you'll join me at our fun-filled destination, overflowing with family activities, education and entertainment, July 26 - August 6, 2017.

2017 Resource Guide_CMYK.indd 27 5/30/17 12:19 PM 5 WILD FOOD COMBINATIONS YOU’LL ONLY FIND AT THE FAIR!

1 Donuts and Burgers The famed donut burger is the ultimate sweet and savory combination, featuring your favorite burger toppings (bacon, lettuce, onion, etc.) and sweet glazed donuts used in place of a bun. Yum.

Buffalo Chicken and Won-Tons 2 A favorite of Fair staffers, a dollop of creamy buffalo chicken dip is dropped in a won-ton wrapper and deep-fried into bite-size nuggets of pure buffalo-flavored goodness served with a side of seasoned sour cream dipping sauce. Like Crab Rangoon? This is the buffalo chicken version.

3 Tots and Gravy Poutine tots are a different tater take on the Canadian favorite, traditionally made with French fries. Perfect, crunchy tots are topped with a special batch of hot gravy and cheese curds.

Hot Dogs, Swiss Cheese and Bacon 4 The little-known “Dauby Dog,” tucked away between the Cooper Arena and the Dairy Products Building is presented with little fanfare but limitless flavor – a Swiss-cheese-stuffed hot dog is wrapped in bacon and deep-fried, then served on a bun. It’s basically the best hot dog you could imagine.

5 Roast Beef and Potatoes When you say the ingredients, it doesn’t sound that strange. But when you see the creation’s name – a roast beef sundae – it becomes decidedly stranger. Picture this – mounds of mashed potatoes layered with roast beef, drizzled with gravy and topped with a cherry tomato. Interested?
