THE FACULTY CLUB and KENY GALLERIES present “Tamara Jaeger – Works In Wood” March 2, 2015 – May 1, 2015

Columbus artist Tamara Jaeger will present a collection of decoratively constructed and painted assemblages in an exhibition titled “Works In Wood” from March 2 through May 1, 2015. These sculptural works of are life-sized creations depicting people, birds, animals, plants and musical instruments. An opening reception in Ms. Jaeger’s honor will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at The Ohio State University Faculty Club. Please call 614-292-2262 or email the club at [email protected] for more information or to RSVP.

Tamara Jaeger’s technique of creating assemblages – an artistic process which consists of making three-dimensional works by combining various elements including wood, metal, ceramic and found objects and then hand embellishing them with paint, pastels, ink, charcoal or graphite – is unique, yet draws on artistic traditions dating back to the first Cubist constructions of in the early twentieth century. In Jaeger’s meticulously assembled compositions, one can see cultural references influenced and informed by her travels and study abroad. By incorporating found objects from the urban neighborhood in which she lives and maintains a studio, her work also reflects the vibrant, contemporary world around her.

Of Tamara Jaeger’s work, Tim Keny, Co-Owner of Keny Galleries, states, “Pablo Picasso once stated that art is a lie that tells the truth. This astute statement applies very well to Tamara’s art. It is not academic nor photographic nor scientific. Her creations are a sensitive visual confirmation of the human need for emotional repose, humor, touch, empathy, and dreams. Tamara’s assemblages of found objects/materials are a sophisticated blend of playful, spontaneous ‘self-taught’ creativity with the subtle formal sophistication of an artist with a master’s degree in fine art. Despite the fact that the artist expends much time and effort selecting and transforming the diverse shapes, colors, textures, and densities of found objects, her art appears to have been created spontaneously without the burden of self-conscious or formal artifice. Her art establishes a natural subtle rapport with the viewer. Tamara is the ultimate alchemist – she can magically change often discarded consumer commodities into objects of mystery, beauty, and veneration.”

A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, with Bachelor of Arts degree, Jaeger also studied abroad at the International School of America in Bath, Avon, England. In addition, Ms. Jaeger subsequently earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University. Her award-winning works of art have been exhibited by the Ohio Art League, the Riffe Gallery, the Columbus Cultural Arts Center, the Shot Tower Gallery on Fort Hayes Campus, the Fine Arts Exhibition as well as in the , Art Museum, Mansfield Art Center, Fort Wayne Art Museum, Southern Ohio Museum, Canton Museum of Art and the Springfield Museum of Art.
