It also wants to enhance cooperation between European universities. Its English translations often appear in cooperation with Ameri‐ can academic publishers like “Academic Press of the USA”. The European University Press emerged in 2003 from the University Press Bochum, a spin‐off from the Ruhr University Bochum/Germany in 1999. Since the University Press Bochum received more and more manuscripts from other European University Presses, it was split into a Press publishing only academic work of Ruhr University Bochum/Germany (in 2015 renamed into West German University Press) as well as a press publishing books related to various Universities in Europe (European University Press). To become a real “European University Press”, several universities from all over Europe submit‐ ted their agreement and support to the registrating court, which decided that the “European University Press”, serving among others the “Central European University” in Budapest, Hungary, came into existence. European University Press has established book series from several universities, as well as inde‐

  • The Darkest Red Corner Matthew James Brazil
The Darkest Red Corner Chinese Communist Intelligence and Its Place in the Party, 1926-1945 Matthew James Brazil A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy Department of Government and International Relations Business School University of Sydney 17 December 2012 Statement of Originality This is to certify that to the best of my knowledge, the content of this thesis is my own work. This thesis has not been submitted previously, either in its entirety or substantially, for a higher degree or qualifications at any other university or institute of higher learning. I certify that the intellectual content of this thesis is the product of my own work and that all the assistance received in preparing this thesis and sources has been acknowledged. Matthew James Brazil i ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Before and during this project I met a number of people who, directly or otherwise, encouraged my belief that Chinese Communist intelligence was not too difficult a subject for academic study. Michael Dutton and Scot Tanner provided invaluable direction at the very beginning. James Mulvenon requires special thanks for regular encouragement over the years and generosity with his time, guidance, and library. Richard Corsa, Monte Bullard, Tom Andrukonis, Robert W. Rice, Bill Weinstein, Roderick MacFarquhar, the late Frank Holober, Dave Small, Moray Taylor Smith, David Shambaugh, Steven Wadley, Roger Faligot, Jean Hung and the staff at the Universities Service Centre in Hong Kong, and the kind personnel at the KMT Archives in Taipei are the others who can be named. Three former US diplomats cannot, though their generosity helped my understanding of links between modern PRC intelligence operations and those before 1949.

  • The Poets of Spohr's Lieder Op. 103
THE POETS OF SPOHR'S LIEDER OP. 103 Professor of German at the University of Bristol and co-author with Eda Sagarra (Trinity College, Dublin) of A Companion to German Literature published in 1997 by Blackwell HIS is the first in a proposed series of articles intended to provide readers and performers of Spohr's songs with some awareness of what their texts mean, who wrote them, and what may lie or may have Tlain behind them. Its subject is the set of Six German Songs for Soprano, Clarinet and Piano Accompaniment, Op. 103, generally regarded as Spohr's supreme achievement in the Lieder genre. 1. I kept the hope deep in my breast which had trustingly opened up to it; my eyes gleamed with a zest for life whenever her magic flowed round me and whenever I listened to her flattering voice; but its echo was drowned in the roaring storm.

Journal of Siberian Federal University. Humanities & Social Sciences 1 (2018 11) 120-131 ~ ~ ~ УДК 81.33 Perception of Contemporary Russian Literature in Chinese Criticism as Exemplified by the Works of Siberian Writers (V.P. Astaf’ev and V.G. Rasputin) Valentina V. Nikitenko* Siberian Federal University 79 Svobodny, Krasnoyarsk, 660041, Russia Received 12.01.2017, received in revised form 25.12.2017, accepted 15.01.2018 Firstly, the article provides a short excursion into the history of translations and study of Russian literature in China. Furthermore, there is a brief overview of Chinese critical works within the period of 1980-2000. The article identifies the main aspects of the creative work of Siberian writers attracting the attention of Chinese researchers. The main positions of criticism, literary studies and new trends are considered. The author notes the creative interaction of Chinese writers with V.P. Astaf’ev and V.G. Rasputin, their ideological and artistic congeniality. The analysis of the material allows us to draw a conclusion about the relevance of the problems posed by Russian writers for the Chinese readers, as well as the increased attention of Chinese critics and literary historians to their work. The creative work of Siberian writers helps a Chinese reader to understand the Russian culture and the Russian mentality more deeply. Keywords: Russian literature, translation, Chinese language, Valentin Rasputin’s works, Viktor Astaf’ev’s works, literary study, criticism, problems, prospects. DOI: 10.17516/1997-1370-0211.
