Dale Kirby Shihan has an amazing career in Martial Arts, spending more than half a century as a student and instructor of Japanese Karate and Weapons Arts including Satori-Ryu Iaido, a school of Japanese Swordsmanship.

Kirby Shihan served as a point man for the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam (1967&1968), completing 12 combat air assaults and receiving the Bronze Star for Valor and the Army Commendation Medal for Valor.

Deemed the “American Samurai” by Official Karate Magazine in 1980 and the “Tennessee Samurai” by Karate Illustrated in 1983, Kirby Shihan is well published as a leader in brining Iaido to the United States. Kirby Shihan earned his Renshi Instructor’s license in Iaido from the international Martial Arts Federation in 1986. Kirby Shihan is also a senior instructor for the United States Eastern Wado Ryu Karate Federation.

Dale Kirby Shihan has dedicated a strong part of his life to passing on his knowledge and skills to the next generation of martial artists, and we are thankful for his positive time and energy. As an echo of such a wonderful positive influence on so many lives, Dale Kirby Shihan will be inducted as a “Living Legend” into the Sport Karate Museum in Houston, Texas.

Please join us on Saturday September 23, 2017, at the Knoxville Martial Arts Center for a Special Weapons Training Fundraiser to honor Kirby Shihan for his accomplishments in the most appropriate way – to train together!

Junior Seminars start at 12:15 pm and cost $20 Adult Seminars start at 1:30 pm and cost $30

Students will participate in multiple seminars covering stick weapons including Bo, Jo, Escrima, and Yawara. Empty hand seminars may also be offered. Beginner and advanced training options will be available for both age divisions, but only registered students will be allowed to participate.

Seminars will be hosted by Lance England Hanshi at the Knoxville Martial Arts Center in Karns, TN, at 7544 Oak Ridge Highway, 37931.

Proceeds from the Special Weapons Training Fundraiser will go towards covering expenses for Dale Kirby Shihan as he travels to receive this esteemed award. Please make every effort to attend.
