“Why wouldn’t that be considered a value to all of our schools?” — Cheryl Phipps bus Continued from page 8 sophomores. “It’s been so helpful in our family and neighborhood,” said Board member Julie Tanner. “Those who use it appreciate it for kids who don’t drive but live 24 minutes away. I’ve heard from people who say ‘my son uses it every day.’ It’s so valuable, especially a late activity bus. I would advocate for another year.” Board member Cheryl Phipps asked if other Davis County high schools have an activity bus. “Why wouldn’t that be con- sidered a value to all of our schools?” she said. “Why FHS as opposed to other schools? I think we should look at one for all the schools.” Superintendent Reid Newey said cost and additional staffing would prohibit the district from providing an extra bus to all schools. “Farmington High will have close to 2,000 students this year,” Tanner said. “We could see some increase on the bus. I recommend we have one more year. Sometimes it takes programs a while to get out there.” Board member Gordon Eckersley agreed with Tanner asking that the board consider one more year. Ultimately, the majority of the board voted not to provide the bus again. 12 Thursday, July 25, 2019 News DAVIS CLIPPER Food Family A big crowd turned up for handcart days last weekend. SALT LAKE CITY—It’s not often that a movie not only entertains but also sends a strong message at the same time. T.C. Christensen’s latest movie “The Fighting Preacher” does just that, leaving audiences of any faith satisfied. “It’s a great story of what love, kindness and perseverance can result in,” said Christensen, a Davis County resident. “The world we live in now is so divisive it shows we can find common ground and get along.” The movie is set in 1905 and based on the real life story of Willard and Rebecca Bean. Willard was the World Middle-weight Boxing Champion but sets aside his career when Joseph F. Smith calls him on a five-year mission to Palmyra, New York. He and his new bride Rebecca accept the call and move to the Smith family farm only to find the same hatred and resentment that existed 90 years before. “I’m filled with admiration for Rebecca and Willard,” Christensen said. “They were fish out of water. The fact they had nobody in Palmyra but had the ability to stick with it and cling to each other is admirable.” Facing less than a warm welcome, Willard had to learn to use love instead of his fists to slowly win people over. “Overall I think it played very well,” said Dave courtesy McConnell who plays Willard in the film. “It has
