www.styrouae.com What is STYRO Expanded Polystyrene?

It is polymerized styrene which is produced from BENZENE and ETHYLENE. Polymerization is accomplished in the presence of catalyst, usually organic peroxides. The expandable foam is produced as small beads containing pentane, a blowing agent which expands by treatment with steam to form a light weight “pre foam” of required density, then processed by further steam in a mould to produce blocks for cutting into shapes or any molded articles by injection.

• STYRO Expanded Polystyrene is an exceptionally good insulating material. This is the result of its extremely low density & closed cellular structure. It consists of air filled polyhedral cells, 0.2 – 0.5mm across with polystyrene wall about 0.001mm thick. The polystyrene walls occupy only about 2% of the total volume, and the rest is air, which is trapped in the cells & cannot pass from one cell to another. • It is extremely light weight (specific gravity: about 0.02) and it floats on water. • The thermal conductivity of STYRO Expanded polystyrene does not vary with time unlike cellular materials whose cells are filled initially with gases other than air. • STYRO Expanded Polystyrene is a substance of no nutritional value to plants & animals including micro organisms. • The service life of STYRO Expanded Polystyrene is virtually unlimited if the material is used knowledgeably. • STYRO Expanded Polystyrene is ozone friendly and safe for health. • STYRO Expanded Polystyrene is an amorphous plastic. • STYRO Expanded Polystyrene has similar electrical properties to air. • STYRO Expanded Polystyrene chains contain virtually pro-polar groups. • Density Range 12kg/m3 – 50kg/m3.

Note: Fire Retardant Grade should not be used for food products. Regular grade can be used for food products such as fish & vegetable boxes etc.

www.styrouae.com STYRO EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE (EPS) WHITE COLOR

EPS is one of the lightest of all construction materials allowing ease of handling and faster construction time. Its outstanding thermal insulation properties and durability ensure high performance throughout the full lifetime of the building/construction application in which it is used for.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a generic term for polystyrene and styrene copolymers that are expanded into a variety of useful products. The shock absorption properties and other qualities of EPS foam combined with customized molding capabilities, insulation properties, and ease of processing make it a high performance packaging material.

Used in thousands of different ways by individuals and businesses around , expanded polystyrene (EPS) is relied on to provide superior performance in various foam product applications. As a closed-cell, rigid foam plastic, EPS relies on the use of a blowing agent to allow individual beads to be expanded from 2 to 50 times their original size. Whether used as protective packaging for fragile items during shipment, as insulation in building applications, or even as a bicycle helmet, EPS is serving an important role in our everyday life.

• ODP=0 - The ODP or (Ozone Depletion Potential) is the potential for a single molecule of the refrigerant to destroy the Ozone Layer. All of the refrigerants use R11 as a datum reference and thus R11 has an ODP of 1.0. The less the value of the ODP the better the refrigerant is for the ozone layer and therefore the environment.

• EPS contains no CFC’s HCFC’s or fiber, it has a zero ODP rating and is not noxious, and it is physically and chemically inert. It contains no known biological or physiological irritant; thus it is Environmentally Friendly, since it has no chlorine content, no Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP = 0), and only a modest Global Warming Potential.

• GWP<5 - The GWP, or Global Warming Potential, is a measurement of how much effect there is on Global Warming in relation to Carbon Dioxide, where CO2 has a GWP of 1. This is usually measured over a 100-year period. In this case the lower the value of GWP the better for the environment. Since EPS has no HCFC /CFC compound it comes under the group of - GWP <5

Page 24 www.styrouae.com STYRO NEOPOR Neopor is a high-tech insulation material that sets new standards for efficient thermal insulation and environmental compatibility. Tiny graphite particles give Neopor foam a silver-gray shine and more importantly, these infrared absorbers and heat reflectors lower the material’s thermal conductivity. Thus STYRO Neopor panels achieve 20% better insulation value (Lamda value) in comparison to conventional EPS. Producing thinner panels consumes fewer resources. Plus more efficient insulating technology means that it takes less energy to heat or cool off a house to the same degree. Working with thinner panels also translates to lower construction and installation costs as well as lower transportation and handling costs. In fact, STYRO Neopor panels add value all along the value chain from factory floor to construction site. ADVANTAGES • Up to 20% better insulation value. • Up to 50% lower use of raw materials, resulting in thinner boards. • Easy installation - less glare from the sun, as well as lighter and thinner sheets. HIGHER EFFECTIVE R-VALUE Insulation materials made of STYRO Neopor offer a higher insulating capacity using less material. They are gentle to the environment and very cost effective. STANDARDS STYRO Neopor has been manufactured as per ASTM C578 Standards and it is 100% Fire Retardant material complies : “Class A” . Its smoke-developed index is 200, flame spread index is 10 when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84.

Page 25 www.styrouae.com STYRO EPS SHEETS

STYRO EPS sheets (Insulation Panels) have multiple applications in the construction, HVAC and packaging industries. They can be used in cavity wall, duct and floor insulation, void filling, floor raising and packaging applications. High density STYRO sheets are recommended for insulation and floor raising applications. A low density STYRO sheet which has good resilience property can be used for packaging purposes.

Page 26 www.styrouae.com STYRO Piling and Guide Wall

STYRO EPS cylinders are used for shore piling and guide walls in the construction industry for loose soil foundation. These cylinders can be made in any size & design using high tech CAD/ CAM cutting machines with excellent accuracy and consistency. STYRO EPS Voids can be used conveniently for sequent & continuous guide wall shuttering works. STYRO EPS once more proves to be one of the most versatile materials. Using it for piling is one of the best methods for safety, lightweight and low cost features.

Page 27 www.styrouae.com STYRO Void Formers STYRO EPS Blocks have excellent compressive strength, good workability and durability. They are widely used in modern bridges as a filler material which saves substantial concrete and cost. STYRO EPS is also used as a void former in bridges for service and utility piping usage. STYRO EPS meets and exceeds the technical specifications of (American Association of State High-way and Transportation Officials) “AASHTO” STANDARDS. STYRO EPS void formers are used to create void spaces, void shapes and holes through moulding cement around bodies of STYRO EPS. When the cement solidifies, the STYRO EPS is easily removed creating an empty space. This is used to build spaces for cables, plumbing pipes and electrical networks within the walls/structures of buildings.

Page 28 www.styrouae.com STYRO Parapet Moulds Traditional wooden parapet moulds no longer exist as they were replaced by parapets made from polystyrene. The main aspect of this application is that STYRO parapet moulds are more cost effective, flexible in design, lighter in weight and faster in production since it is cut with High tech CNC machines with CAD / CAM technology.

Be it a villa, mosque, prayer hall, community hall, shopping complex and commercial or residential buildings, the elevations can’t be imagined without having profiled parapets, arched entrance. Aesthetic look of the above civil structure can be enhanced with special parapet designs.

Page 29 www.styrouae.com Core Insulation for EIFS EPS boards are commonly used as core material for Exterior Insulation finishing system (EIFS). EIFS is a lightweight synthetic wall cladding that includes EPS insulation and thin synthetic coatings with fiber reinforcement. EPS insulation became a user-friendly material to all EIFS applicators as it is:

• Light in weight with high compressive properties. • Provides good insulation with long term R Value. • Fire retardant and eco-friendly (CFC, HCFC Free/ Recyclable). • Stable and easy to apply.

STYRO recently introduced NEOPOR – a silver grey insulation EPS board, which is more ideal for EIFS applicators as it excels in terms of Lamda value. STYRO can supply both White & Grey EPS according to the customer’s requirements.

Page 30 www.styrouae.com STYRO GEOFOAM STYRO GEOFOAM is an eco-friendly material that provides an excellent light-weight filling solution to all types of geotechnical projects. It is inevitable that modern geotechnical projects cannot be completed without STYRO GEOFOAM. STYRO GEOFOAM is the favorite filling material chosen by civil engineers, architects & geotechnical experts, as it is successfully used in many applications such as:

• Road Construction • Road Widening • Rail Embankment • Bridge Abutment • Bridge Under Fill • Landscaping • Slope Stabilization
