Unlike almost all the other contributions, it is far more than an informative chronicle. It is a work of history in its own right and falsely described as a Life of Alexander 111. Boso's work is in fact a history of the Iong schism in the church brought about by the double election of I159 and perpet- uated until the Peace of Venice in I 177. It makes no claim to be a Life of Alexander because it not only says nothing about his career before his election but also purposely omits all those events and activities of his pontificate which do not strictly belong to the history of the schism. It ends with Alexander's return to Rome in 1176. Some historians have imagined that this ending was enforced by Boso's death which is supposed to have taken piace in 1178.~But there is no need for such a supposition.

  • Icaro: to Be Fooled by the Beauty of Your Dreams
Reckless Wines from Rome “We fell in love with a vineyard, so beautiful to make us reckless” And so, without reasoning, we embraced a journey that led us to challenge some rules, get rid of a some fears and take back some beauty. Near Rome, in the Roman Castles area, we discover volcanic lands, boldly suited for the vineyard and yet voiceless. We focus on the grapes of a single vineyard near Velletri, surrounded by a 250 hectares natural monument of wild forest, huge oaks, maples and cyclamen. Nero Buono, Malvasia, Trebbiano and a bit of Moscato. Organic vineyard with the use only of copper and sulfur. Looking west you can spy the sea and in the windy days you can feel the salt. Egidio and Paola are the two owners and farmers. They take care of the land, the vineyard and the fruit-trees, all alone. We help them, observing and studying each movement. We work together, we feel good. We take courage. I CA RO “I Castelli Romani” Our ambitions are all in this land. We want to take back the grapes and the wines. Give them new life, new vitality, new expression. Give rise to a renaissance of the Roman Castles. In the wine-house, in Genzano, it is only spontaneous fermentation. Zero or very little So2, no filtration, no control of temperatures. No enologist or long experience yet with clear ideas and the will to make an expressive, natural, popolar, anti- elite wine for the people. Four fellows from Rome, two elderly farmers and the dream to start a revolution in the Roman Castles.

It currently accounts for I55% of the world’s vine-growing areas, 60% of wine production and 70% of exports. In this very special sector of agriculture, technology and science play fundamental roles in all phases of activity, from the start of the vine-growing season, through the ripening of the grapes, to the bottling of the wine. The quality of the wine produced depends on many parameters, including the soil characteristics in the area, the weather and growth conditions during the season, the ability to monitor and control vine diseases, the degree of maturity of the grapes at harvest time, their grade, colour, organic acids, etc. during fermentation and, finally, the wine production techniques employed. In general, however, European vineyard managers still have little access to technical means or reliable systems to guide them in their decision-making. Precision Farming in the Frascati area Space technologies, particularly those associated with Earth Observation (EO), can help the wine-growing community in a number of technical areas. One of several initiatives promoting the use of EO in the wine sector has been ‘Bacchus’, a Research and ESA/ESRIN lies in the middle of the Frascati DOC wine-growing Technological Development project started in 2003 (to be completed in 2005), funded by region, southeast of Rome.

Of these, the British Kingdom was one of their most assiduous advocates, because of complementary dynastic, political, cultural and commercial interests. A notable stream of British diplomats and visitors to the Sabaudian capital engaged in an extraordinary and reciprocal exchange with the Turinese during this fertile period. h e l ow of travellers, a number of whom were British emissaries and envoys posted to the court, coincided, in part, with the itineraries of the international Grand Tour which transformed the capital into a gateway to Italy, resulting in a conl agration of cultural cosmopolitanism in early modern Europe. The tasting consists of two different wines offering you a complete new gustatory experience - very natural wines, produced respecting the vineyard and the earth, without the use of chemical products, sulfites and yeasts. The results are intense wines which, through their scents and flavors, will transmit you the special characteristics of the place where they have grown - rocks, sea, herbs… These are authentic wines that symbolize both past and future – because this is the way the ancestors produced the wine in the past, but wines rich in history and character will impress the future too. This romantic sentiment may not have been shared by those defending or assaulting the town over the past 1,000 years. However, today it can be said with relative cer- tainty that there is little chance of an attack by the Republic of Pisa, Saracen pirates, barbaric hordes or French Emperors. A star is torn—molecular analysis divides the Mediterranean population of Poli's stellate barnacle, Chthamalus stellatus (Cirripedia, Chtamalidae) Yaron Tikochinski1, Sharon Tamir1, Noa Simon-Blecher2, Uzi Motro3 and Yair Achituv2 1 Faculty of Marine Sciences, Ruppin Academic Center, Mikhmoret, Israel 2 The Mina & Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences, Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan, Israel 3 Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior, and the Federmann Center for the Study of Rationality, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Israel ABSTRACT Poli's stellate barnacle, Chthamalus stellatus Poli, populates the Mediterranean Sea, the North-Eastern Atlantic coasts, and the offshore Eastern Atlantic islands. Previous studies have found apparent genetic differences between the Atlantic and the Mediter- ranean populations of C. stellatus, suggesting possible geological and oceanographic explanations for these differences. We have studied the genetic diversity of 14 popu- lations spanning from the Eastern Atlantic to the Eastern Mediterranean, using two nuclear genes sequences revealing a total of 63 polymorphic sites. Both genotype- based, haplotype-based and the novel SNP distribution population-based methods have found that these populations represent a geographic cline along the west to east localities. The differences in SNP distribution among populations further separates a major western cluster into two smaller clusters, the Eastern Atlantic and the Western Mediterranean. It also separates the major eastern cluster into two smaller clusters, the Mid-Mediterranean and Eastern Mediterranean. We suggested here environmental conditions like surface currents, water salinity and temperature as probable factors that Submitted 30 March 2021 have formed the population structure. We demonstrate that C. stellatus is a suitable Accepted 30 June 2021 model organism for studying how geological events and hydrographic conditions shape Published 21 July 2021 the fauna in the Mediterranean Sea.

Ditch Street Paola, Malta PLA 1234; email: [email protected] 224, Camilleri Court, Flt 5, Il-Marlozz Street, Mellieha, Malta MLH 4100; email: [email protected] ABSTRACT During the last decade, the authors visited several stacks (Faraglione) which are satellites islets around the main circum-sicilian islands. Most of these stacks are inaccessible to the general public due to their geographical and topographical positions/inclinations. Literature is often scarce or non-existent. The current work provides a preliminary data on the floral diversity recorded during the brief expeditions between the years 2008–2018. All of these islets were observed once, so this study does not reflect all of the possibly existing species of these islets. The current study caters the Faraglione di Colombara of Ustica, Isola dei Conigli, Scoglio del Sacramento and Scoglio di Faraglione of Lampedusa, Faraglione di Tracino and Faraglione di Ficaria/indietro l’isola of Pantelleria. Another islet is the Scoglio dello Zio Gennaro, Taormina, Sicily. KEY WORDS Vegetation; satellites islets; circum-sicilian islands.
