30 It Happened in Montevideo A look at a hoard of rolls from Uruguay As all collectors know, from time to time something crops up that is quite unexpected and different from anything you’ve seen before. This is certainly the case with a collection of rolls recently imported into the UK from Montevideo in Uruguay, a saga that took a good three years. Earlier articles looking at South America have shown it was a market where pretty well anything was imported, so the majority of rolls are from familiar American, British and German companies. Most are 88-note but with plenty of Artrio-Angelus reproducing rolls, as well as Recordo and QRS Automatic expression rolls – the latter offering more basic expression than reproducing pianos, a type of instrument rarely seen in the UK. The mixture of music, and the condition of the rolls, suggests that the collection is based around the remaining stock from a closed shop. Maybe this was the importer, and piano dealership, Vittone Hnos (Brothers) whose name appears on some box-top labels. So, what was unexpected? It was the final block of rolls made locally in Montevideo. They are on two different labels, the majority on Victor and a few on GH, the initials of their maker, Gioscia Hnos. Autumn 2010 31 Now, anybody with the slightest interest in old records or gramophones will immediately be asking whether this Victor is the famous gramophone maker, or if the name is just a coincidence. The seller actually referred to them as “RCA Victor”, which seemed so far-fetched that it was dismissed (RCA came into the frame very late in the roll-making era). -

This is a unique corner of Canada, the only part that was once an independent country and then the newest Canadian province (since 1949) but one of the oldest meeting points for natives and new- comers in North America. With four Aboriginal cultures (Inuit, Innu, Mi’kmaq, Métis); deep French, English, Irish, and Scottish roots; and a rapidly diversifying contemporary society, our citizens have shared a dramatic history, including a tsunami, an occupation during WWII, a fragile dependence on the sea including a cod moratorium in recent decades, a key role in the events of 9/11, and more recently, an oil boom. Its nickname – The Rock – tells a lot about its spectacular geography but also about its resilient culture. Traditional music and dance are key ingredients in life here, as we hope you will learn in the week ahead. Our meetings will take place at Memorial University, shown in the foreground of the photo below, and in the Arts & Culture Centre just to the west of the campus. To celebrate the conference themes in music itself, and to bring the public in contact with the remarkable range of scholars and musicians in our midst, we have organized the SOUNDshift Festival to run concurrently with the World Conference of ICTM. Five concerts, open to delegates and the general public, workshops by ICTM members and musicians featured on the concerts, and films are available as part of this festival. -

NAME OF PUBLISHING AUTHORITY The Director of the Department of Airspace Control (DECEA) is responsible for the publication of the AIP Brasil. 2. APPLICABLE ICAO DOCUMENTS The AIP is prepared in accordance with the Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS) of Annex 15 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation and the Aeronautical Information Services Manual (ICAO Doc. 8126). Charts included in the AIP are produced in accordance with Annex 4 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation and the Aeronautical Chart Manual (ICAO Doc. 8697). Differences from ICAO Standards, Recommended Practices and Procedures are given in subsection GEN 1.7 3. PUBLICATION MEDIA Printed and online 4. THE AIP STRUCTURE AND ESTABLISHED REGULAR AMENDMENT INTERVAL 4.1 The AIP structure The AIP forms part of the integrated aeronautical package, details of which are given in subsection GEN 3.1. The principal AIP structure is shown in graphic form on page GEN 0.1-3. The AIP is made up of three parts, General (GEN), En Route (ENR) and Aerodromes (AD), each divided into sections and subsections as applicable, containing various types of information subjects. 4.1.1 Part 1 - General (GEN) Part 1 consists of five sections containing information as briefly described hereafter: GEN 0. Preface, record of AIP amendments, record of AIP supplements, checklist, list of hand amendments and the table of contents to Part 1. GEN 1. Resumo O presente artigo aborda a relação entre internet e os espaços digitais que surgiram com seu advento: as comunidades virtuais e as redes de relacionamentos. Também constitui este artigo o marketing pessoal em perfis criados na rede de relacionamento Orkut. Para fazer este artigo, foi utilizada pesquisa bibliográfica e configurações empíricas da pesquisa da comunicação, como abordagens de teor cartográfico (mapeamento de elementos existentes na rede) e abordagens de teor textual (análise de palavras, objetos sonoros, imagens e outras linguagens). Este estudo selecionou cinco perfis de integrantes de bandas de pagode de Santa Maria/RS. Como resultado, pode-se perceber que todos os perfils analisados reafirmam a identidade de pagodeiros natos, relacionando esse grupo com mulheres, bebidas e futebol. Essa evolução gerou também mudanças para a vida humana. O desenvolvimento tecnológico, segundo Steffen (2005), se refletiu nas tecnologias de comunicação, com o surgimento e desenvolvimento do rádio, do cinema, da televisão, a popularização dos jornais, das revistas e, no final do século, com o surgimento de uma nova mídia: a Internet.
