ISSUE STATEMENT: The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) consists of nearly 800 member high schools and middle/junior high schools, both public and private. The WIAA oversees athletics in Washington and hosts 120 WIAA State Championship events for the following sports and activities: , , bowling, , cross country, dance/drill, debate, drama, football, , , music, , and diving, soccer, , track & field, and . These programs provide students with valuable life skills and are an integral part of the total education process.

The City Council recognizes Shoreline student athletes from King’s School and Shorecrest High School, for their outstanding accomplishments, and applauds them for competing in the WIAA State Championships and achieving 1st Place in their respective sporting event.

Coaches and student athletes from King’s School and Shorecrest High School will be on hand to accept the proclamation.

RECOMMENDATION

The Mayor should read the proclamation declaring June 11, 2018 as Shoreline Athletic Champions Day in the City of Shoreline.

P R O C L A M A T I O N

WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the outstanding abilities and talents of Shoreline Student Athletes and applauds them for competing in the 2018 Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) State Championships; and

WHEREAS, the Shorecrest High School Hip Hop Team finished in 1st Place in the 3A State Championship held March 23-24, 2018 at the Yakima Valley Sundome. Team members include Ana McDade, Christian Burke, Destiny Stevens, Ellie Sidler, Emma Libby, Haidi Ghobrial, Hannah Sy, Jane Hailemariam, Johnathan Villegas, Katie Wong, Katrina Shih, Kenneth Emerson, MaeLea Willis, Meagan Brooksbank, Neve Lin, Reva FrareDavis, Savanna Molina, Shiuan Chu, Tran Vo, Trinity Howell, and Wintana Eyob. The varsity team is coached by Rex Kinney with Assistant Tong Cha and Advisor Jacqui Drew; and

WHEREAS, the King’s School Girls Volleyball Team won the 1A Volleyball State Championship held November 10-11, 2017 at the Yakima Valley Sun Dome. Team members include Alexis Graham, Ali Davenport, Allison Hansen, Ava Mason, Baily McCutchen, Dominique Kirton, Elle Mason, Noelle Alberda, Sadee Marshall-Inman, Sydney Jones, Tessa Foley, and Zoe Graff, coached by Jeff Fransen, Bart Foley, Josh McCorkle, and Jamie Lyon, and; and King’s School Girls Soccer Team won the Girls Soccer State Championship held November 17-18, 2017 at the Shoreline Stadium. Team members include Annie Rasmussen, Callie Wright, Daylee Peterson, Delaney Peterson, Eleanor Baker, Emma Culberson, Emma Fleming, Grace Roberts, Katie Stella, Lauren Blair, Marin Hawley, Meg Travis, Mia Flor, Olivia Gabelein, Peri Welch, Peyton Doyle, Reagan Christensen, Reya Custis, Sarah Nielsen, Sophie Ruhlman, and Taylor Faris, coached by Nicole Gabelein, Matt Sporn, and GeGi Ward, and Mady Morgan; and the King’s Boys Track and Field Team won the State 1A Championship May 24-26, 2018. Team members include Anthony Hart, Brennon Blevins, Cameron Chew, Cody Chew, Cooper Rolfs, Josh Vasquez, Kobby Solomon, Michael Gabelein, Nikko McNeal, Peter Kulits, Pierce Papke, and Silas Newby. They are coached by Rod Wilcox, Dan Blackmer, Maliea Luquin, Duncan Cull, and Ben Blackmer.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Will Hall, Mayor of the City of Shoreline, on behalf of the Shoreline City Council, recognize their accomplishments, dedication, hard work, perseverance, and love of their sport, and hereby proclaim June 11, 2018 as

SHORELINE STATE CHAMPIONS DAY in the City of Shoreline.
