FROM OUR ATTENDANCE/ATHLETICS SECRETARY:

ATTENDANCE - A little reminder about the attendance policy at Kellogg. Students are expected to attend all regularly scheduled classes and assemblies. Students must remain on school grounds and in assigned supervised areas for the duration of the school day unless officially excused by the attendance office. Good school attendance improves academic achievement, classroom and school climate. Under the laws of the State of and policies of the Shoreline School District School Board, all student absences and tardies are illegal except for the following:

• Illness of the student

• Death in the immediate family

• Quarantine

• Exceptionally urgent reasons

• Religious Observances

• Request by a parent for a student absence, providing such absence does not adversely affect the student’s educational progress.

It is the responsibility of parents to inform the school when their child has an absence. Please call the attendance line or email the attendance secretary by 9AM if your student is absent for the day.

TARDY/LATE ARRIVAL

Students who arrive up to ten minutes late to school go directly to their first class of the day where they will be marked tardy. After the first ten minutes of school, students are to report to the attendance office and receive a pass to class indicating if the tardy is excused or the late arrival is an unexcused absence.

EARLY DISMISSAL

If it is necessary for a student to leave school before the end of the day, s/he is required to bring a written request to the attendance office before first period. You may also call or email the attendance line. Please keep in mind, it takes time for a student to gather their belongings and get to the office so we suggest you call ahead so we can have your student in the office at the appropriate time. Students must be MET IN THE OFFICE AND SIGNED out by the parent/guardian or emergency contacts.

HELPFUL NUMBERS TO KEEP ON HAND:

* MAIN NUMBER 206.393.4783

* ATTENDANCE LINE: 206.393.4781 (Direct Line – Leave a Clear Message)

* FAX 206.393.4780

Who can pick up your student? Remember on your emergency information form you are asked to give us your emergency contacts? These contacts are the only people other than guardians that can pick up your student at school for an early dismissal, appointment, emergency, disaster, etc. Also, if your student has a sibling that might need to pick them up, they must also be included on the emergency contact list as well. We also will ask for id at the time of pick-up to verify who you are. We do all of this for the safety of our students and we appreciate your support to ensure that this happens. As always, come by and update any information as needed – we are here to help! J

TEEN GIFT DRIVE December 6th – December 16 th, 2016

As part of the Holiday Baskets drive, the Shoreline PTA Council coordinates the collection of teen gifts through the Shoreline School District for teens & tweens ages 10-18. The Shoreline Fire Department collects the toys for our younger kids. Hopelink, the Rotary of Lake Forest Park, the City of Shoreline, & Dale Turner Family YMCA each make their own contributions, making it a true community effort to provide every family needing assistance with a quality gift to give their children.

Our goal is to provide at least one gift card for each teen. One of the greatest challenges of the Holiday Baskets drive is matching the number of teen gift cards to the number of recipients. Last year we provided for over 500 teens & tweens, and we are expecting over 600 this year.

Here’s how to help:

Collect gift cards. These are especially important donation items and very popular with the kids. Gift cards make it possible for kids to shop for just what they want. $15-25 dollar amounts work best. Reach out to friends, family, personal connections, clubs, and local businesses who may be willing to help.

Make a monetary donation. Payment can be made directly to the Shoreline PTA Council. This is an excellent way to contribute because it enables committee members to purchase popular gift cards in bulk for additional savings. Please make checks payable to Shoreline PTA Council, note: “HB – Teen Gifts” and mail to: Shoreline PTA Council 6.12 Attn: Holiday Baskets - Teen Gifts, PO Box 55832 Shoreline, WA 98155. For more information or to donate via Paypal, go to: www.shorelinepta.com and click on Holiday Baskets. Your donations to the Shoreline PTA Council is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and are tax deductible.

Make a teen gift item donation. Teen gift items ($10-$15 non-gender specific item) can be sent along to your local school unit with your food drive donations, dropped off at “The WORKS,” located at the North City Elementary portables, on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 pm between now and December 14th, or delivered to Kellogg MS after 3:30pm on Friday, December 16th.

Volunteer. There are many ways to contribute and get involved. Go to SignUp.com @ http://signup.com/go/EZw13j or email Kristin Leffler at [email protected] with questions.
