A GUIDE TO JOB SEEKING ON-LINE 2008/09
Do you want to take a break from studying? Have you decided that you don’t want to go to sixth form, college or university? Do you want to find a job that offers training and career prospects?
This guide offers a starting point for job seeking on-line by providing a list of local, regional and national employers who offer training schemes/ apprenticeships and jobs for young people leaving school or sixth form. This leaflet is generally aimed at students who have achieved, or are predicted to achieve, at least 4/5 GCSEs at grade C or above (NVQ level 2 or equivalent). Some schemes are aimed at undergraduates, i.e. young people with A levels or equivalent, who have decided to take the work based route rather than university to further their qualifications and experience.
Before you begin to apply for jobs on-line:
. Create or up-date your CV, so you can email it to employers if required, or use it to help you complete on-line application forms.
. If you are providing an email address as part of your application make sure it is one you can access regularly.
. Please note some training schemes have strict deadlines for applications, so it is worth making note of this before you begin the application process.
. Some of the employers listed are national companies. Have you considered where in the country the job will be based? How much travel will be involved? If you are offered the job will you need to consider relocating?

Remember this guide is only a starting point in your research. If you have a particular company you would like to work for it may be worth looking them up on the internet, and investigating whether or not they have a training scheme in place to which you can apply.
