Gebruikers van die poslys aanvaar, deur hulle lidmaatskap en gebruik, die voorwaardes van die lysreels en onderneem om hulle daarby te hou. Indien iemand nie die reels wil nakom nie, moet hulle asseblief nie die poslys gebruik nie. Lidmaatskap en bydraes word gemodereer deur die lysbestuur. Die reëls en riglyne vir poslys-etiket is soos volg: 1. Gesprekstaal Die voertaal van SAGenealogie is Afrikaans, met aanvaarding van aanhalings uit bronne in die oorspronklike taal. 2. Netiket en lysreëls Netiket (net-etiket) vereis dat lede onder andere die volgende sal doen: * wees vriendelik en behulpsaam teenoor andere, en respekteer mekaar; * deel genealogiese inligting met mekaar; * gebruik te alle tye beskaafde taal; * hou by die terrein van die poslys, naamlik genealogie (en verwante sake); * moet asseblief nie persoonlike boodskappe, en boodskappe wat niks met die genealogie te doen het, op die poslys plaas nie; * indien jy iets persoonliks wil oordra aan 'n ander lid, doen dit van die poslys af deur 'n e-pos direk aan die betrokkene te stuur; regsklik op die boodskap in Outlook Express, maak "properties" oop en kry die afsender se persoonlike e-adres. Moet asseblief nie net op "reply" klik sonder om die adres te verander sodat die pos nie per ongeluk ook na die lys toe gaan nie. * moenie twiste en vlam-oorloë begin of daaraan deelneem nie; * as jy antwoord op die poslys, sny onnodige teks uit die oorspronklike boodskap; die meeste e-posprogramme voeg die oorspronklike boodskap by verstek by wanneer jy op 'n brief antwoord; behou slegs die noodsaaklike deel van die ou boodskap; * as jy boodskappe in bundelformaat ontvang, moet nooit die hele bundel hersend wanneer jy antwoord nie; sny alle nie-tersake boodskappe uit die bundel uit; * gebruik altyd 'n relevante woord of sinsnede in die onderwerp-lyn ("subject") sodat ander kan sien waaroor jou boodskap gaan; voordat jy dus jou antwoord stuur, vergelyk jou brief en die onderwerp-lyn, en maak die nodige aanpassings; * wanneer jy inligting of hulp ontvang van 'n ander lid, bedank die lid kortliks (verkieslik in 'n private boodskap van die poslys af) daarvoor. 5. Die bestuur onderskryf nie noodwendig die opinie wat in e-posse uitgespreek word nie en aanvaar ook nie verantwoordelikheid daarvoor nie. 6. Nee, dit is nie werklik so nie. Dit is 'n besondere voorreg om in Salt Lake City navorsing te doen, maar die noodsaaklikheid daarvoor word al hoe minder. Een van die boeke wat ek in die Family History Library in Salt Lake City leer ken het, die Meyers Orts- und Verkehrs-Lexikon des Deutschen Reichs én nageslaan het én op allerhande maniere gekopieer het (met metodes wat ek nog nie in op 'n ander plek gesien het nie) én met pynlike moeite ontsyfer het. Eers die Duitse skrif, dan die afkortings, en dan die betekenis is ai, ai, ai, ai nou met 'n druk van 'n sleutel op my rekenaar in verstaanbare Engels. Die skakel is http://www.meyersgaz.org/ Sleutel net die naam van die dorp in Duitsland in en die rekenaar gee vir jou al die gegewens in Engels, met die verduidelikings van wat die afkortings beteken. Dit gee ook die beeld van die oorspronklike inskrywing in die Meyers. Daar is nie minder nie as 34 plekke met die naam <http://www.meyersgaz.org/place/20225016> Mühlhausen nie!     Trade and the Merchant Community of the Loango Coast in the Eighteenth Century Thesis submitted for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Hull by Stacey Jean Muriel Sommerdyk Honors BA (University of Western Ontario) MA (York University) May 2012 ii Synopsis This thesis explores the political, economic and cultural transformation of the Loango Coast during the era of the transatlantic slave trade from the point of contact with Europeans in the sixteenth century until the end of the eighteenth century, with particular focus on the eighteenth century. While a number of previous studies of the West Central African slave trade have focused principally on the role of the Portuguese on the Angola Coast, this thesis makes a new contribution by evaluating the balance of power between Dutch and Loango Coast merchant communities. In doing so, this thesis concludes that well into the eighteenth century, local African religious and political traditions remained relatively unchanged on the Loango Coast, especially in comparison to their southern neighbours in Angola. Drawing upon detailed records compiled by the Middelburgse Commercie Compangie (MCC), the thesis builds upon an original database which accounts for approximately 10,000 slaves sold by 640 identified African merchants to the Dutch Middelburg Company over the course of 5,000 transactions. Expanding upon the work of Phyllis Martin and other scholars, this thesis highlights a distinction between the Loango and the Angola coasts based on models of engagement with European traders; furthermore, it draws attention to the absence of European credit data in the MCC slave purchasing balance sheets; and, finally, it explores the difficulties involved in procuring slaves via long distance trade.

It is the first time since 2012 that we have had so many teams in the knock-out stages of the Champions Cup and that is reflective of not only the talent on the pitch but the coaching teams and the structures of the clubs o it.

    Govert Loockermans (1617?-1671?) and his relatives: How an adolescent from Turnhout worked his way up in the New World Willem Frijhoff (Erasmus University, Rotterdam / VU-University, Amsterdam) [Revised version, January 7, 2016] Summary This contribution aims at painting a picture of the person, the strategy and career of Govert Loockermans, paying special attention to the relationship he and his family in the New World had with Turnhout, and to the role played by the complex network of his relatives in the formation of New Netherland and of New York. He abandoned his Catholic Faith, and it appears that he soon ceased all contact with his blood relatives in Turnhout. He was not only a vigilant and cunning merchant, who amassed a large fortune for that time, but also a ruthless pioneer. We could see him as an icon of the current Wall Street capitalist. Either way, he was a man who helped determine and shape the age he lived in. His destiny continues to fascinate us. Govert Loockermans, the American hero from Turnhout, is the classic example of the ‘famous unknown’ gracing so many history books. He does not appear in any national dictionary, nor is he counted among the about thirty ‘famous Turnhoutenaren’ on the Turnhout tab of Wikipedia. Some of his deeds in the founding history of the country that later would become the United States are indeed very well known—even if not always flattering—but the history of his life in New Amsterdam, present day New York, has only been told a handful of times.
