This Newsletter is issued by ST.MICHAEL’S CHURCH AYNHO and printed by… HAMPTONS ESTATE AGENTS – “ Rector’s Ramblings” August sees many people off on holiday, whether it is a staycation or travels further afield. For many hard workers on the holiday club team, led by Carrie O’Regan and Helen Boswell to whom I am very grateful, it will be a time of rest and regrouping, time to thank God for all that was good and to start thinking about next year. For myself August will mark a slightly earlier return to work than I had planned. When I came to this benefice six years ago, I expected that I would be here until I retired, however I believe that God is calling me to go to another church and people. During my study leave I didn’t go looking for a new job but find that it has found me. So I am returning early from my sabbatical study leave to help prepare the benefice for my departure. My leaving service will be on 21st October and I will be licensed as priest-in-charge of St. Mary’s Goldington, which is on the east of Bedford, at 7:30pm on Monday 5th November, when I hope the service will go off with a bang to mark this next phase of my ministry. I am full of mixed feelings, thinking about those who we will be leaving and who have become such parts of our lives and the excitement of new opportunities and new friends to be made at the new church. I hope many people will be able to come and join us for my licensing and stay in touch after the move. Between now and then life will be very busy for myself and for the wardens and PCC members as we make sure the benefice is ready for its new opportunities in the coming months. Meanwhile it is also business as usual in our churches, with a special Songs of Praise at St. Peter’s, Steane on 12th August and then we will be getting ready for our harvest celebrations in September, not forgetting the historic churches Ride and Stride on 9th September. This is a wonderful excuse to go and visit as many churches as possible in a day and raise money for your local church at the same time. Don’t forget if you get your house insured through Ecclesiastical Insurance Company who insures the church, then they will give £150 to your local church if you ask them to as they celebrate 150 years of insuring churches. What I have been reminded about this past month is that it is right and proper that we have and make our own plans, but that God also has plans for us and that we should be ready to listen to him and be willing to take the risk and follow his call. May God bless you one and all, Simon

********************************************************************************************************************** To Aynho Patients of the Deddington Health Centre

I have received a letter from the Deddington Health Centre stating that as from August 1st they will no longer require the services of the persons who voluntarily collected and delivered prescriptions week by week to patients in our village. This will now be carried out by an employed person under “Home Delivery Service” May I, on behalf of all the patients from our village who have benefited from this service, express sincere thanks to all those persons, both past and present, who have served our village in this way so faithfully for over 25 years. The Centre also expresses gratitude for this vital service which has been provided over the years.

Accompanying this month’s Newsletter you will receive a programme for the show – please take a look and enter a class or two. The Committee put in a huge amount of time and effort to put this show on and it is the participants who make it fun, so do please join in. The Show is open to all residents of Aynho. Tea and cakes will be served during the afternoon and there will be a raffle as usual. For those of you who enjoy the produce, this will be auctioned at the end of the afternoon. AYNHO W.I. – Wednesdays 7.30pm in the Village Hall Our thanks to Valerie Swann and her husband Mike for a wonderful evening of tea, coffee and cakes, in their lovely garden on July 18th, which turned out to be a beautiful warm evening. We had a quick session of W.I. business, of course, but a lot of the evening was spent enjoying the cakes and playing golf – OK not real golf, but an attempt at hitting the ball to be nearest the post, and then a session of “boules”, again not quite, but being the nearest to the marker – congratulations to Diana Skinner and Carol McClellan. There is no Meeting in August, so we meet again on a Monday (not the usual Wednesday) 17th September and this will be a Group Meeting meaning other local W.I.s are invited and we will be learning all about the history and facts of Morris Dancing – maybe even having a go ourselves – so see you then. Last Minute News:

Extra from PARISH COUNCIL --Farming Liaison The Parish Council would like to ask villagers to assist our local farmers. Those who walk the fields will notice some verges have been cut. This is to prevent cross contamination into hedgerows of pesticides used on crops. Please try and avoid walking these verges as they are protected and a reminder to please keep dogs on leads at all times when in a field with livestock and pick up and dispose of dog poo responsibly. This does not mean leaving it in bags in the field where livestock can ingest it with subsequent loss of life.

Extra from AYNHO ACTIVE You may have heard of Aynho Active’s plan to add a Wall of Photos to the Pavilion’s re-decoration scheme. Rachael has put out an appeal on Facebook and received some lovely general shots of people/activities that have taken place at the Pavilion and on the field over the past 40 years. So this is a more focused appeal for photos directly connected with the Sports field and Pavilion. Ideally we are looking for shots of as many varied events and occasions (private events as well as village events) and activities over the years. Perhaps photos of groups – football/cricket teams, sports days, parties and summer festivities, planting of bio-diversity trees, Opening of the Pavilion, school camp out nights or sports days, vintage car show, farm walks and so on. In other words we are looking for anything and everything, preferably with dates and names. Obviously with a proviso that not all photos received will be used. We will take copies of any physical photo used so that the original can remain with the owner. Please drop them to either myself or Rachel at 17/19, Blacksmith Hill. Electronic versions are also welcome to [email protected]
