Planning your next trip to Aberdeen? No matter what time of year you choose to visit, here are some ideas on how to spend your 48 hours in the city. i Start your trip by taking a step back in time in Old Aberdeen - one of Aberdeen’s favourite hidden gems. Monks and scholars, traders and travellers settled round Old Aberdeen in the area where 14th century St Machar’s Cathedral still stands and where King’s College was founded in 1495. Visit nearby Brig O’Balgownie, Seaton Park and the characteristic Chanory.

i Dine by the seaside Head along the mile-long beach towards The Silver Darling. This AA Rosette seafood restaurant boasts spectacular, panoramic views across the sweeping coastline and bustling harbour of Aberdeen. The Silver Darling has a passion for local produce and uses the freshest seafood in its dishes. i Visit the unexpected Just a few minutes away you will find - known locally as Fittie - and it’s here you will discover a unique fishing quarter. Found at the end of Aberdeen’s mile long beach, this quirky place is made up of squares of tiny cottages, flower- filled gardens and brightly painted outhouses, their eccentric decorations drawing on the city’s seafaring soul.

i Go dolphin watching You might have noticed that Aberdeen isn’t just a city by the sea, it’s a city of the sea. You will see ships docked right up against the city centre streets and if you’re lucky, spot urban dolphins leap at the harbour mouth. The best place to spot these dolphins is at Torry Battery. i Dig a little deeper Find out even more about the city’s long relationship with the sea, at Aberdeen Maritime Museum. This award-winning museum is located on the historic Shiprow and incorporates Provost Ross’s House, which was built in 1593. The Maritime Museum houses a unique collection covering shipbuilding, fast sailing ships, fishing and port history.

i Sample delicious produce After a busy day exploring Aberdeen, relax and refuel with a hearty, locally produced meal at No.1 Bar & Grill. Choose from options including classic Scottish dishes and contemporary revisions of old favourites. DAY 2 ITINERARY i Kick start the day Breakfast is the most important meal of the day so make sure you start the day with a hearty breakfast at Rye & Soda. i Follow a vibrant street art trail Capture the imagination when you check out the Nuart and Painted Doors artwork at locations across the city centre. This is a street art paradise - what a great way to sightsee in the city too. i Have lunch in a quirky setting Enjoy a tasty lunch at the quirky Books and Beans on Belmont Street. The upstairs of the cafe is a second hand bookstore and internet cafe. i Shop till you drop Take your pick of five shopping centres, the ‘Granite Mile’ shopping street, boutiques and independent retailers - or of course, visit them all! Spend the afternoon shopping at high street favourites, designer stores and pick up some special souvenirs at local gift shops. i Take a much needed break Chill our for a while at Mackie’s of ’s first ice cream parlour. Whatever you choose - ice cream cone, ice cream waffle, crepe, sundae or milkshake - enjoy the view of Aberdeen’s new Poised statue by famous artist Andy Scott. i Taste Michelin Guide food Located on the Medieval streets of Aberdeen’s Merchant Quarter with veiws of the 12th century Kirk of St Nicholas, find Moonfish Cafe. The kitchen’s constantly changing innovative menu of modern British cuisine consists of honest food made with local and seasonal produce i Sit back and relax After a busy afternoon hitting the shops, settle down in the home of BrewDog. Check out BrewDog’s 16 craft beer lines in the beer giant’s flagship bar. Or enjoy live music and other events alongside incredible craft beer in the basement of the Castlegate Bar. i Catch a show His Majesty’s Theatre is an opulent, awe-inspiring Frank Matcham designed theatre, a national treasure, with a breathtaking auditorium described by Billy Connolly as “like playing a gig inside a wedding cake!” On stage at HMT you can expect to see Broadway and West End shows.
