PURPOSE OF REPORT 1.1 Education Operational Delivery Committee: To note the proposals for the future anticipated school roll increase at Bucksburn Academy and to endorse the preferred design option. 1.2 City Growth and Resources Committee: To seek approval of the preferred design option and referral to the budget process for the funding required for the preferred design option to progress to detailed design development (RIBA stage 4). 2. RECOMMENDATIONS That the Education Operational Delivery Committee: 2.1 note and endorse the preferred design option to increase the capacity of Bucksburn Academy; and 2.2 note that the report will be presented to the City Growth and Resources Committee to seek approval of the preferred design option and referral to the budget process for the funding required for the preferred design option to progress. December 2018 UPDATE View a full colour version on our website: www.dyceacademy.aberdeen.sch.uk WELCOME As we head towards the Christmas holidays we try to strike a balance between keeping the focus on the work of the school and acknowledging some of the more festive celebrations around this time of year. On the work front we are very aware of the need to prepare our senior pupils for estimate exams in January. Therefore pupils and staff know they will be working hard in class up to the end of the week. The estimate timetable has been issued to our seniors and a copy has been provided to parents via email. Young people should be planning their study alongside ensuring they rest and recharge the batteries. Our term will end with House assemblies which feature a reflection on the year so far and our hopes for the year to come: lots of pictures, music, performances and the presentation of awards to those who have contributed so much to the sponsored walk. We raised over £5 000 which is a superb effort in quite difficult times. Look out for the staff video on Youtube. Might be the staff that are ‘banned’ from ASDA – you’ll see what I mean when you view our efforts. I am always proud of the way our young people show kindness within our community. They have supported charity events such as Christmas Jumper Day to support Save the Children; they have gathered gifts for needy teenagers and supported the local foodbank by bringing in a wide range of items. -

Collection Overview The small collection cared for by Aberdeen City Council is part of five sites in the city that focus on local history and art. The Egyptian collection is small but has a number of good examples of Predynastic and Early Dynastic pottery. Most of the collection was donated to the institution in the name of Royal Navy Sub-Lieutenant John Russell Stewart Bell (c.1924– 1944). After John was lost at sea when his ship HMS Asphodel was hit by a U-boat, his father William, an Aberdeen antiques dealer, donated the collection in his memory.
