The Visual Effects Society announced Tuesday that director Ridley Scott will receive its Lifetime Achievement Award.

Among Scott's major visual effects films are "Legend," "Prometheus," "," "Gladiator" and ""; the last two won Oscars for their f/x.

Okun, chair of the VES board, in a press release. "His vision and contribution to the art is incomparable and his impact upon the visual effects and technical form is unparalleled."

"The best filmmaking has always been the result of collaboration between artists, craftspeople and technicians, both in front and behind the camera," Scott said. "Over the years I have been very fortunate to work on films that are visual at their core and thus I have always been immensely reliant on the expertise of our visual effects teams. To be honored by the Visual Effects Society with this Lifetime Achievement Award is indeed extremely gratifying."

Scott has been nominated for three for his directorial efforts "Thelma & Louise," "Gladiator" and "Black Hawk Down." His upcoming biblical epic "Exodus: Gods and Kings" bows in theaters Dec. 12.

Past winners of the award include , , and . More videos: Scott will receive the award at the 13th Annual VES Awards in Feb. 4 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
