Some CVS news before we begin CVS Central Lancashire will be holding a six week information exhibition in the Guild Hall Arcade between 20th August and 2nd October. We held a similar event last year at the St George's Shopping Centre and it was a huge success. This is a chance to promote your services and to find out about other services being provided in and around Preston. Bring your stands, bring your banners, bring your leaflets and your posters! We anticipate an even bigger event this year as it is Guild year and we would like to encourage as much participation as possible. We already have many groups signed up but if you would like to be involved, all you need to do is visit our website http://www.cvscentrallancashire.org.uk and click on Useful Links. At the bottom of that page you will find a document entitled "Information Event Sign-up". Complete that form and return it to us, either by hand, by post or by email. The original team members danced together in the 1972 Preston Guild torchlight procession. They sought to recreate that high point by reuniting for the same parade in 1992’s Guild. Now, the original folk dance enthusiasts have decided to go for the hat-trick by taking part in this year’s Guild festivities once again. http://www.lep.co.uk/news/reunion-after-20-years-for-guild-morris-men-1-4721550 Photo Competition for Guild 1 Photographers are being urged to get creative for a Preston Guild project. Festival organisers are offering an iPad for the most creative take on a Preston Guild ‘G’ logo. Snappers are being asked to create their own version of the logo and take a photo of it . A spokesman said: “The ‘G’ could take on one of the five Guild themes including international, green, people, business or creativity.” Entries can be uploaded to the Guild website, meaning people across the world can take part. The deadline is September 14. Compagnie Bam will bring their jaw- dropping one-hour performance, 'Switch', to the big top on Avenham Park, just one of many events taking place over the ten days during Preston Guild City Festival. The company fuses elements of traditional and contemporary circus acts, mixing teeterboard, Chinese pole and breathtaking acrobatics with comedy, song and dance. 'Switch' will see five artists working individually and as a group to captivate the audience with a unique blend of circus skills and daring acrobatics. Formed by graduates from France's circus school of Chalon, and based in Amiens, this travelling circus with a difference has amazed audiences in their native country and abroad. Compagnie Bam has been brought to the UK by independent arts development charity SeaChange as part of a cross-channel project to develop links between UK towns and cities and circus companies in France and Spain. Street performers at the Trades Procession on 1 September will give spectators a taste of the showcase expected at the circus, which promises to be a great value family event. Jean emigrated to Canada in 1982 but returned to Preston for the 1992 Guild and is determined to do the same again in September. http://www.lep.co.uk/community/3-000-miles-won-t-come-between-me-and-guild-1-4727594 Funding and Fundraising Community Rights Grants Programme - Opens mid July A new £11.5m support scheme will help voluntary organisations take over the running of public services in their communities.
