PRESIDENT’S REPORT On behalf of your Board I take pleasure in presenting my report to members. Our on field performances during the home and away series were outstanding with both sides finishing on top and the Club winning its third consecutive Gary Gilchrist Trophy. Certainly as President of the Club I share the frustration of members after our Senior side again lost in a preliminary final but as a Club we are committed to again give ourselves an opportunity of winning our next Senior Premiership and we can only achieve such a goal if we can again finish top 4 in 2011. I have full confidence in the coaching staff at the helm of our club. I would like to commend our Football Department for their efforts in 2010 – coaching staff Peter German, Adam Potter, Todd Clark, David Bourke, Ross Fisher and Luke Boyd. Brendan Curry and Chris Dixon expand in greater detail in their respective reports on our football results/community and development initiatives which the Williamstown Football Club undertook during the 2010 season. The VFL competition continues to evolve and improve with all clubs involved in a highly competitive environment. It was pleasing from a competition perspective that players like and James Podisadly had such a big impact in their debut AFL seasons. From Williamstown’s point of view it was great to see Liam Picken continue to establish himself as a regular with the Bulldogs. A great many individuals volunteer their time and services to support our Club and I would like to extend the appreciation of the Board to all those who have committed their time and energies in the past season. Each contribution, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated and serves to make our Club the great and popular Club which it is. Sponsorship is a key focus of our Club every season and I am pleased to see significant growth throughout 2010. I would like to thank Joanne Royston from Hocking Stuart Real Estate – Williamstown who have now extended her company’s partnership with our Club for a further 3 years (2011 – 2013). The Westpac Bank have been a tremendous Major Community Partner and I thank Michael McCormick (Regional General Manager – Western Suburbs) and Peter Young (Williamstown Branch Manager) and their staff for their ongoing support. It is also pleasing as President that we have long term partnerships with leading personal injury lawyers, Zaparas Lawyers, KFC, Buffalo Sports, Werribee Automotive Group, Burbank Homes, Star News Group and Empire Trade. I would like to highlight the support of Conrad Taylor from the Werribee Automotive Group who after many years of supplying a vehicle for our General Manager extended their support by also providing a vehicle for our new Football / Development Manager Chris Dixon during 2010. The Werribee Automotive Group are now our Development Programs Partner and I urge all members to think of this significant partner of ours when they are in the market for a motor vehicle. The willingness and ability of our members to utilise our Sponsors is critical for the ongoing success of our Club and the success of any partnership with our Sponsors must be a win / win for both parties. I therefore extol all members and supporters of the Williamstown Football Club when doing any business at all, no matter how big or small, to look to our sponsors before considering any other organisation. The sponsors’ support of our Club is critical and we in turn must be actively supporting our sponsors. I thank the Gulls Supporters Group who continue to raise significant funds for our Club and Judi Jeremiah and her loyal band of helpers for their dedicated efforts. I also thank Rex and Janet Dooley and their volunteers who raise thousands of dollars from canteen sales throughout the season. After many frustrating years planning and dreaming of Burbank Oval being redeveloped it was very pleasing that in conjunction with the Hobsons Bay City Council we appointed Behmer and Wright Pty Ltd as our builders after an extensive tender process. The builders commenced in December 2010 and work is expected to be completed in February 2012. Obviously Council begun extensive works to the playing surface and surrounds after our last home game was played against Frankston on Sunday 15 th August. I am sure that all members share in the excitement which this development brings to our club and we will continue updates on the works throughout 2011 on our website and in newsletters.

It was also pleasing to see the completion of the development of facilities at Crofts Reserve and the Western Jets now have an elite training facility which will be utilised by the Williamstown Football Club in 2011. Burbank Homes were outstanding in their dedicated commitment to this project which resulted in the Western Jets having an outstanding training facility. With Burbank Oval out of use in 2011 Crofts Reserve will also be used by Footscray District Superules who have now changed their name to Williamstown Superules. Also the Western Region Football League utilise Crofts Reserve for their finals series at both Senior and Junior level. Your Board is thrilled with the way our alignment with the Western Bulldogs continues to evolve and I would like to especially thank Western Bulldogs President David Smorgon, CEO Campbell Rose and Coach Rodney Eade. Our agreement has been extended for a further 3 years – 2011 – 2013. It is also very pleasing to see the continued growth and success of the Williamstown Juniors Football Club. We continue to work closely with their President Tom Jarosz and Secretary Tracey Barnett and their committee and to see large numbers playing our great game is very encouraging for the suburb of Williamstown. Also it is very encouraging to see local Amateur club Williamstown CYMS again have a successful season and congratulations to Peter “Spider” Welsh for his dedicated group of workers and Coach Alan “Hoopy” Elliot and his players. I would like to thank Ian and Peter Francis and their staff at Seagulls Nest which continues to operate successfully and is a great financial benefit to our club. Even though there was a drop off across the whole gaming network in 2010 our venue continues to be a strong performing venue. The State Government announced during 2008 huge changes to the Gaming Industry with the end of the duopoly system of TABCORP and Tattersalls in 2012. A bidding auction to purchase gaming machines took place in May 2010 and your Board was thrilled to achieve an excellent result for our Club. Much background information was sourced by our Finance Committee and to purchase 66 machines at $5500 each when the Club had the option of paying $77,000 for 40 machines pre-auction was an endorsement of their due diligence. The Williamstown Football Club is indebted to AFL Victoria C.E.O Peter Schwab, Finance Manage Stephen Smith and Football Operations Manager John Hook and their staff for their continuing support of our club and their ongoing advice and assistance. Since the completion of the 2010 season a number of changes have occurred at AFL Victoria and Williamstown has been at the forefront of these discussions and big changes to our competition will occur in 2011. As these changes are announced I will relay them to members. In closing I would like to thank my fellow Directors who have guided your club with integrity and passion. Our Board works harmoniously to achieve the best possible outcomes for Williamstown both on and off the ground. Another important aspect is the partners of those heavily involved with the club. The support mechanism they provide is critical to everyone involved from Board, Coaching, Playing and Volunteers. I would like to highlight the Board’s decision to appoint Chris Dixon as our Football / Development Manager last April and he has had a tremendous impact in the running of our Football Department and our ability to connect with the local community. I would also like to thank Marketing Manager Nicole Hopkinson who advised the Club that she is returning to full time study after over 2 years in the role. Nicole has done an outstanding job and has proven to be very popular with sponsors, support staff, coaches, players and members. I welcome Norhana Stipic into her role and am confident that she will do an outstanding job. I would also like to thank our General Manager Brendan Curry for his ongoing commitment and work ethic. I am excited about the 2011 season – undoubtedly it presents us all with a number of challenges without our home ground at Burbank Oval. The Williamstown Football Club over history has survived many great challenges and as we enter our 148 th season I urge all members, supporters and sponsors to support our club during 2011. Trevor Monti (President)

GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT

The 2010 season saw our senior side qualify in top spot at the end of the home and away series and we earnt a week’s break and direct entry into the Preliminary Final after a comprehensive victory over Port Melbourne. Our performance against the Northern Bullants was disappointing and we did not play to the level which was so evident throughout the season. Certainly injuries to our aligned AFL partner the Western Bulldogs did not help our cause but we all have to live with the result and ensure that we can perform at our best in big games when it counts. Our Development Squad also finished the home and away series on top and after winning a cut throat Preliminary Final in the mud at Port Melbourne, we then met reigning Premiers Box Hill in the Grand Final at Box Hill. This game was of a high quality and after a stirring comeback to draw level late in the final quarter Box Hill kicked the final two goals to win the game. From my point of view our players, coaches and support staff were outstanding in 2010 and the level of commitment and effort was truly inspirational. But in the end both sides did not achieve what we desired and as such we must regroup and prepare in the same professional manner for the 2011 season. I commend our new Coaching Staff which was appointed prior to the 2010 season – Senior Coach Peter German, Development / Reserves Coach Adam Potter, Assistant Coaches David Bourke, Todd Clark and Ross Fisher. These coaches were supported by our Fitness Advisor Luke Boyd, Darren Caddy, Shane Murphy, Cory Laforgia and Mark Lynch. This group of men took our football club to a new level in 2010 and I believe the foundations have been made for success. Another new appointment during 2010 was Richard Maloney as our Leadership Consultant. His impact and contribution was significant with our Leadership Group and I received plenty of positive feedback from our players. Our leaders have adopted a real ownership of the Williamstown Football Club and Richard’s program will be expanded in 2011 with the next level of our playing group. Our third year of being aligned with the Western Bulldogs saw 12.35 Bulldog players represent our Senior side and 3.90 in our Reserves side. An agreement to extend our current alignment contract for a further three years (2011 – 2013) has been signed. Williamstown Football Club continued our financial commitment to fund mature rookies with the Western Bulldogs in 2010 with us contributing $40,000 towards the recruiting of and Patrick Rose. For the 2011 season we have contributed a further $40,000 towards Mitch Hahn and Ed Barlow. Mitch Hahn will also be a Line Coach with our Club as well as playing in 2011. It is great to see Liam Picken continue to perform at a high level after receiving his opportunity through our financial commitment of $20,000 2 years ago. In 2010 we embarked on a recruiting program of attracting the best TAC Cup kids in Victoria which saw us recruit an excellent batch of young talent who have all recommitted to our Club in 2011. This strategy has continued for the 2011 season and we have also kept all of our 2010 Leadership Group bar Peter Faulks who was drafted to and Matthew Little who has made the decision to join the Bendigo Bombers / Essendon which was due to his strong family ties with Essendon Coach James Hird his first cousin. In this Annual Report we highlight the many people who are part of our Support Staff and give their time to ensure that we can field two sides in the VFL. Your ongoing support is critical and I thank you for your efforts throughout 2010 and look forward to 2011. I commend Sophia Samartzis our Head Trainer who co-ordinates all of our Medical Staff for training and match days. Unfortunately for us Sophia has accepted a role with in 2011 and I wish her all the best. In 2010 we were again very fortunate to have the services of Richard Vucinic as Club Doctor and in conjunction with Physiotherapists Alicia Tang, Victoria Kahn, Michael Davey and Michael Ranger. Williamstown now boast the most professional medical staff in the competition. Our Room / Property staff headed by Ron ‘The Count’ Williams, David Utber, Max Atkin, and Gary Howell were outstanding especially when Ron Johnson and Ian Harrington had to take a back seat during 2010. Special mention to Graeme Crocker who is a tireless worker at Willi 12

Page 11 of 21 months of the year with both the Football and Cricket Clubs and also runs the bar for the Superules every Thursday night. Thanks to Terry Maloney who continues in his role as Team Manager for both the Senior and Reserve sides. John Clifton continues to be an outstanding contributor at Williamstown and in 2010 was again at the forefront by running our bar and overseeing all of the President Luncheons and home games. In 2010 the club received outstanding contributions from both the Gulls Supporters Group and our Canteen. Burbank Oval hosts games for Williamstown, Western Jets, Superules and conduct Auskick and Rex and Janet Dooley work tirelessly with their band of loyal volunteers. Likewise Judi Jeremiah heads up the Gulls Supporters Group who continue to raise significant money for the club. I would also like to highlight the re-branding of our Past Players & Officials Association to ‘Club 1864’. Football Director Ian Rickman took on the responsibility to invigorate this group and he recruited a number of former players to a committee to assist him. The reunion held last year was terrific and a number of exciting initiatives are planned for 2011. Club 1864 is a great resource for our Football Club and we will continue to hopefully expand this group and to update contact details for all former players and officials of our great club. The Williamstown Football Club continues to sponsor the Western Region Football League in their Junior Section and in 2007 signed a 5 year deal to continue this arrangement. This $30,000 commitment involves Junior Finals being played at Williamstown’s Burbank Oval when it is available and all junior footballs used within the competition carrying the Williamstown logo. Trevor Monti’s President Luncheons continue to be a showcase event at every home game. Again in 2010 we had the honour of quality guest speakers and I am sure everyone who attended had a great time. It is our aim to maintain the level of excellence in 2011 (even though we will be playing home games at different venues) and I urge all members to again support these functions. It is important for all members to understand that even though we are very fortunate to have a strong performing gaming venue, it is imperative that other key fundraising events like the annual auction, golf day , membership and sponsorship is maintained and hopefully increased. The Williamstown Football Club continues to strengthen its existing relationship with our key partners – AFL Victoria, Williamstown Cricket Club, Western Jets Football Club, Footscray District Superules, Western Region Football League and the City of Hobson Bay Council. Williamstown Football Club sees itself as a key player in the local community and we are determined to reach out and promote ourselves as much as possible. This commitment saw Chris Dixon appointed as our Football / Development Manager and in his report he outlines the Club’s community work and also the off-field professional development of the young players who join our club. Your Board delivered complimentary 2010 Family Membership Passes to every Primary School student in the Western Region, every Auskick attendee and all local football clubs. Throughout 2010 Williamstown was able to maintain its strong financial position due to a number of extraordinary circumstances which are explained by our Treasurer Graeme Kennedy in his report. Our Finance Committee headed by Graeme Kennedy and comprising Andrew Howlett, Mike Harwood and myself continue to work diligently to oversee our finances and ensure that we maintain all of our current income streams. The financial highlight of the year was undoubtedly the result the Club achieved in the Gaming Auction which was held in May 2010. This process was very involved and time consuming and I am very proud that our Club made the right decisions with this process. I would like to thank Nicole Hopkinson in her second year as Marketing Manager who did an outstanding job and I wish her all the best as she has decided to pursue full time study in 2011. Nicole endeared herself to all sponsors and people involved with the Club through her professional approach and her cheery and friendly personality. My thanks are extended to the full time staff of the Western Jets – Shane Sexton, Graeme Pratt, Steve Turner and Brad Budge who we share Administration facilities with at Seagulls Nest, 1st floor 1 Mason Street, Newport. Williamstown continues to enjoy a tremendous association with the Footscray District Superules who fielded 3 sides in 2010 and I thank President Peter Brown, Dave Marshall, Larry Simmons and their Executive Committee. The Footscray District Superules have established themselves as

Page 12 of 21 one of the strongest club’s in their competition and they are also planning to be a key contributor to the redevelopment at Burbank Oval and over summer have changed their name to Williamstown Superules and will be coached by Saade Ghazi. I would also like to highlight the contribution and drive of Bill Deller who is Chairman of Football Williamstown. The initiative to create this group was a joint vision that we could involve all levels of football in the Williamstown area – eg Williamstown VFL, Williamstown CYMS, Williamstown Juniors, Williamstown Auskick, Williamstown Superules – to create an organisation ‘From the Cradle to the Grave’ and to work together to promote football and also encourage support and volunteers to get involved. Football Williamstown is still in the embryonic stages and will continue to grow and prosper in 2011. Chris Dixon also outlines in his report some new initiatives which will begin in 2011. 2011 promises to be an exciting year on and off the ground with high expectations on the field and our refurbishment off the ground. President Trevor Monti and myself are part of a steering committee which oversees this development. Soon in conjunction with the Hobsons Bay City Council the tender process will begin to appoint our commercial operators at Burbank Oval of the Function Centre. An announcement will also occur this year with the opportunity for members to purchase a paver / brick at Burbank Oval. As details of our development occur we will relay them to all members and sections of our Club. The VFL competition continues to grow and improve and we must adapt and work towards becoming the best club possible. This is a tough competition and to achieve the ultimate premiership success everything has to be planned and executed in a professional manner. It is exciting that Williamstown Football Club will be part of the new ‘Champions League’ – – which involves 16 state league sides throughout Australia in a knockout competition. Williamstown plays WAFL Premiers Swan Districts in our first round on Saturday 9 th April at as a curtain raiser to the AFL game between and . This competition will continue to grow in future years and provides us with a wonderful platform to promote our club, players and sponsors in this format. In closing I would like to personally thank all sections of the club for the support they afford me and I look forward to exciting times in 2011.

To Trevor Monti and his fellow Board of Directors I thank you for your support, guidance, trust and friendship in 2010 and look forward to successfully working together and achieving on and off field success in 2011.

Brendan Curry (General Manager)

FOOTBALL AND DEVELOPMENT REPORT

Williamstown Football Club experienced a highly successful season in 2010 which unfortunately finished one week earlier than planned. Under a new coaching regime led by Peter German a focus on defensive pressure saw improvements in game style and results as the Seagulls finished top of the ladder after the home and away season with a 15-3 win loss record. A convincing win over rival Port Melbourne in the first final ensured a week off and a Preliminary final meeting with the Northern Bullants. However it was there where the season ended as a poor third quarter meant a disappointing end to what had been a fabulous season.

The team was able to introduce a lot of young talent throughout the year with Ed Carr, Kwame McHarg, Josh Griffiths, Nick Sing, Jack Purton-Smith, Phil Smith and Dane Rampe all making their debuts for the club. Mathew Grossman produced a breakout season in 2010 and provided many highlights dashing off the half back line.

Five players travelled to Perth as part of the successful VFL representative side to play the WAFL. Ben Davies, Matthew Little, Peter Faulks and Patrick Rose (Western Bulldogs Rookie) all played very well on the day while Captain Brett Johnson was also named as the VFL Captain. Matthew Little kicked 7 goals and was awarded best on ground in the representative game. It was one of many best on ground performances for Matt throughout the year as he kicked his way to the Frosty Miller Medal as the VFL’s leading goalkicker. Matthew has elected to play for Bendigo in 2011 where he will be right under the nose of his cousin, Essendon Coach James Hird.

Williamstown players were highly represented in the VFL Team of the Year. Ben Davies, Brett Johnson, Ben Jolley, Peter Faulks and Matthew Little were all named in the team of the year for season 2010. Brett Johnson was also given the honour of captain of the elite side. Peter Faulks has been rewarded for his outstanding season by being drafted by the Fremantle Football Club. We will now see Peter in the purple and white and I’m sure he will do us proud over in the west.

Looking forward to the 2011 season and the Club has made a number of outstanding coaching appointments bringing in Mitch Hahn (Western Bulldogs), Jeremy Barnard (Sandringham FC) and Justin Plapp (Box Hill FC). Mitch Hahn will combine his playing role with the Western Bulldogs and will be responsible for the Williamstown Forward Line. Both Jeremy and Justin will be heavily involved in the “Liam Picken Academy”, a newly formed initiative for first and second year players to fast track their football development whilst providing off field support and career development. We look forward to seeing the results of the program in future years.

On the field the Club has brought in 17 new players from far and wide across the country. Two time North Ballarat Premiership Player Brett Goodes is the biggest name and will bring a wealth of finals experience to the Club. Brett will have a full-time role with the Western Bulldogs as a Player Welfare Officer which will no doubt be beneficial to the Club as well.

Anton Woods, the 2009 TAC Cup Best & Fairest winner joins the club after playing 16 Senior games for the Northern Bullants last year, while I’m sure Williamstown supporters will be delighted to see former player Adam Cook back at the club after a short stint with Wodonga. The Club has once again secured the cream of the TAC Cup talent with several players joining us after missing out on being drafted by AFL clubs. Steven Witkowski (Northern Knights), Jack Frost (Sandringham Dragons), Dale Hoghton (Gippsland Power), Alistair Kefford (). The Western Jets have once again provided us with some talented kids with Jack Gray, Justin Morris, Taylor Jones, Dylan Conway and Nathan Giles making the step up the VFL level.

A lot of steps forward were made in the 2010 season and supporters should be proud of the players and coaches efforts throughout the year. Thanks to all players, coaches and support staff for their hard work this season. Everyone is already over the disappointment of the preliminary final and ready to gear up for a big season in 2011.

Development Report

A lot of initiatives were introduced in 2010 to increase the profile of the Williamstown Football Club in the community. The inaugural Williamstown Community Day was a roaring success with over 2,000 people turning out to partake in activities and celebrate everything that’s great about Williamstown. The community spirit shown on the day proved what a great suburb Williamstown is, and how much the Football Club means to the Williamstown and Western Suburbs community.

Our interaction with both primary and secondary schools in the City of Hobson’s Bay increased with over 12 schools visited by Williamstown players. The boys love getting out there and running football clinics or attending “footy days” and we look forward to increasing our involvement with schools in 2011.

Two exciting initiatives will be implemented in 2011 with a Williamstown Youth Girls Side and a Williamstown FIDA side (for those with intellectual disabilities) being formed this year. Both sides will come under the newly formed Football Williamstown banner and have been made possible because of the support of the Williamstown Football Club. I urge all supporters to support all teams under the Football Williamstown banner which is providing a football and social pathway “from the cradle to the grave.”

Finally, the Williamstown FC playing list ran a Community BBQ recently to raise money for the Queensland Floods Appeal and to engage and interact with the Williamstown Community. We saw an amazing response from the public who loved the chance to speak to their local heroes. The players raised $1,680.00 for the flood appeal with the Club has matched dollar for dollar, bringing the total to $3,360.00 which has been sent to those in need up in Queensland.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Due to a few extraordinary factors the Williamstown Football Club can only report a marginal profit for the year ended 31st October 2010. Whilst this is well down on our reporting over the past few years in particular, it is justifiable in terms of actions taken by the Board over the past year and a slowing in gaming revenues. Nonetheless, it is certainly gratifying to continue the now long standing trend of coming out on the credit side of the ledger.

The Board has been able to ensure that the club will be well positioned into the future, notwithstanding the Governments discontinuation of the Tattersalls and Tabcorp gaming duopoly, by most successfully negotiating the purchase of poker machines post 2012. Initial instalment payments have been made for these machines and, even though this will generate substantial continuing cash flow, the Board continues to strive to maintain and develop revenues from other sources.

Our 2010 net profit was impacted by a reduction in gaming commissions brought about by a number of factors and the fact that last years income was boosted by an extraordinary payment from Tabcorp of $125k. On the positive side, due to the diligent work of our management and marketing group we have increased sponsorships by around $35k.

The running costs of the club have also increased significantly with the engagement of additional staff at Seagulls Nest and the appointment of a full time Football Manager in Chris Dixon who has already shown he will be an enormous asset to the club. Likewise, our continued efforts in striving for that elusive premiership has necessitated additional appointments and expenses within our football department at a cost of some $50k. When you top these expenses up with an increase in general administration costs, depreciation, light and power etc we have a big negative impact on our bottom line.

This makes the substantial contributions by our committed and loyal sponsors all the more important and, whilst our major sponsors including Hocking Stuart Williamstown, Westpac, Zaparas Lawyers, KFC and Burbank are acknowledged in this report, the Board recognizes and is appreciative of the support from all of our sponsors. We are most conscious of reciprocating that support and the club would be most appreciative of its members purchasing goods and services from our sponsors wherever possible.

The Bars and Canteens together with the Gulls Coterie group continue to contribute substantially towards the clubs finances and, indeed, we would be the envy of most other VFL clubs in terms of the time and effort put in by our tireless band of volunteers. Many thanks once again

A statement of sources and application of funds is attached to this report summarizing the outcome of trading operations by the Williamstown Football Club for the year ended 31st October 2010. For those members who wish to examine the final audited accounts a copy will be available for inspection at the club when received from the auditors.

I would like to thank my fellow members of the Finance sub-committee, Andrew Howlett, Mike Harwood and Brendan Curry for their efforts and support during the year.
