No Sign of Home Sickness Get Ready to Pounce! CHAMPION/DATA/ISSUE 16 Hi and welcome to the sixteenth edition of the Fantasy Freako’s rave for 2011. We dodged a bullet last round with news that Gary Ablett’s knee injury isn’t as bad as first thought. He’s now an outside chance to face Richmond this week, which would relieve the thousands of coaches that traded him in last round. Enjoy this week’s rave and good luck to everyone for the upcoming round. NO SIGN OF HOME SICKNESS GET READY TO POUNCE! It’s one thing to perform on your home deck, but to do it away from With most of us close to finalising our sides, it’s vital that we bring home as well is an added bonus. With interstate travel a key component in the right player’s at the right price. Looking at the approximate for every AFL player, looking at player’s that fire on their travels has breakevens for this round, Drew Petrie is one player to keep a close eye proven to be an interesting exercise. Adelaide. Take note, the Bulldogs travel in Rounds 18 and 22, so pencil him in for your captain in those rounds. Next best is Gary Ablett with an average Below are some player’s to monitor this round, but take note, avoid of 125 points per match from his seven outings. His last four games interstate have been exceptional, returning scores of 156, 132, 135 and bringing any of them in until after this week, and in the case of Buddy of course who could forget the 175 against Fremantle in Round 15. Franklin and Matt Suckling, you have to wait two weeks before you can consider them as the Hawks have a bye this round. Of the player’s that travel interstate this round, Stevie J would be the only one worth considering making skipper, considering his last trip to APRROXIMATE BREAKEVENS THIS ROUND Queensland netted him 171 points. Scandals in sport AN ACCOMPANIMENT TO ON THE TAKE TONY JOEL AND MATHEW TURNER Contemporary Histories Research Group, Deakin University February 2020 he events that enveloped the Victorian Football League (VFL) generally and the Carlton Football Club especially in September 1910 were not unprecedented. Gambling was entrenched in TMelbourne’s sporting landscape and rumours about footballers “playing dead” to fix the results of certain matches had swirled around the city’s ovals, pubs, and back streets for decades. On occasion, firmer allegations had even forced authorities into conducting formal inquiries. The Carlton bribery scandal, then, was not the first or only time when footballers were interrogated by officials from either their club or governing body over corruption charges. It was the most sensational case, however, and not only because of the guilty verdicts and harsh punishments handed down. As our new book On The Take reveals in intricate detail, it was a particularly controversial episode due to such a prominent figure as Carlton’s triple premiership hero Alex “Bongo” Lang being implicated as the scandal’s chief protagonist. Indeed, there is something captivating about scandals involving professional athletes and our fascination is only amplified when champions are embroiled, and long bans are sanctioned. As a by-product of modernity’s cult of celebrity, it is not uncommon for high-profile sportspeople to find themselves exposed by unlawful, immoral, or simply ill-advised behaviour whether it be directly related to their sporting performances or instead concerning their personal lives. Most cases can be categorised as somehow relating to either sex, illegal or criminal activity, violence, various forms of cheating (with drugs/doping so prevalent it can be considered a separate category), prohibited gambling and match-fixing.

Short history A team representing the Town of Beaconsfield played two matches in 1890, the first against Cranbourne on June 20. Beaconsfield joined the Mornington Peninsula League in 2002 after stints in the SWGFL and the WGFL. The Eagles continue to enjoy a healthy rivalry with the Berwick Football Club, culminating in the annual Battle of the Creek match. Great eras The Eagles won a hat-trick of flags in the SWGFL from 1980-82, and in 1993 transferred to the WGFL. The club enjoyed immediate success at reserve and junior level but had to wait until 1999 for its initial senior premiership in West Gippsland. This success was followed with another flag in 2001. The club also had five reserves successes, three under-17 and three under-15 premierships in this eight- year period. A major VCFL restructure saw Beaconsfield join the MPNFL in 2002, with premierships coming in 2003 and 2004.

He has been a massive disappointment this season, averaging 69 points per match and jumping in price by only $54,100. BERNIE VINCE (Mid) $364,000 Vince finished with a season-high 35 disposals and nine marks last week against Richmond, scoring 126 points – his second-best return for the year. The nI ternational World of Sport and the Liability for Off-Field Indiscretions Abstract The recent terminations of the contracts of NRL player, Joel Monaghan and the AFL’s Brendan Fevola, for off-field indiscretions, has highlighted the significance of the bringing the game into disrepute clauses contained in standard player contracts. Tiger Woods’ extra-marital affairs received extensive world wide media attention, and the outcome of this negative coverage was the loss of millions of dollars in sponsorship deals. This indicates that such contracts can be terminated on the basis that a sportsperson’s behaviour was having a negative impact on the sponsor’s image. It is for the same reason that sponsors have put pressure on the governing bodies of team sports to take appropriate action for off-field indiscretions. The Court of Arbitration in D’Arcy v Australian Olympic Committee, has also held that a competitor’s behaviour in an incident where criminal charges were laid, may, in itself be sufficient to bring a sport, or themselves, into disrepute, regardless of whether the competitor is later found guilty or innocent.
