A one-time environmental analytical study was carried out concerning small watercourses in the source region of Ier (Ér) Stream, a tributary to Barcău (Berettyó) River, in order to explore the extent of contamination and to identify main pollution sources. More than 70% of this land belonged to the marsh of Ier (Ér) before the 1960’s when water control of the area resulted in a vast network of well-defined small watercourses. Water and bottom sediment samples were collected from 22 sampling sites on streams. The samples of both types were analyzed in accordance with the current Hungarian Standards. The chemical data were evaluated by principal component analysis and Ward’s hierarchical cluster analysis and found to be in good correlation with the geological and hydrological characteristics of the study area. Evidence for anthropogenic contamination was found in 3 water samples out of the 22 collected. Keywords: Ier (Ér) Stream, environmental status, chemical analysis, principal component analysis, cluster analysis INTRODUCTION al., 1983) have been proved indispensible in finding In the present survey, we interpret data obtained correlations between chemical parameters (Singh et al., during the chemical analysis of water and bottom 2005), which also facilitates the projection of chemical sediment samples collected in April 2008 from data to geographical characteristics (Lambrakis et al., sampling sites located on small tributary watercourses 2004). For this reason, the chemical data in the present of Ier (Ér) stream near its source in Satu Mare study are first analyzed by principle component (Szatmár) County, Romania. We analysed the trophic spectrum of six Bombina hybrid populations from Livada Forest. The most frequently consumed preys are dependent of the habitat, the omnipresent ones were Coleopterans, Dipterans and Arachnids. The Collembolans accidentally register a high abundance. The shed skin consumption is indirectly connected with the feeding intensity, suggesting the fact that it can be an additional food aspect, being rich in protein. Regarding the differences between the sexes, the large-sized preys present a majority in the case of the females and juveniles, respectively those rich in lipids (Lepidoptera larvae). Thus, their capture requires a lower amount of energy, which is needed in the growth and reproduction process. Most of the preys have a terrestrial origin. Corresponding author: I. Gergely, [email protected] Abstract. The paper presents a comparative study regarding the evolution across time of the quality of aquatic eco-systems in the Crişuri Hydrographic Space (CHS), between 2007 and 2009. Having as a goal a real and complete image of the quality of the environment in the CHS, the ecological monitoring conducted was meant to observe the structure of the aquatic communities (macrozoobenthos, microphytobenthos, phytoplankton) and the biotope characteristics (physical and chemical parameters of water: pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, CBO5, CCO-Mn, CCO-Cr, nitrites, nitrates, phosphates, amonium, chlorophyll “a”, chlorides, sulphates, fix residues, As, Hg, Cu, Zn, Mn, phenols, detergents etc). The choosing of the monitoring sections, their identification and geographical position were accomplished in 2006. The basic criterion in the choice of the monitoring sections was the identification of all aspects that can influence the quality state of the waters. The monitoring of the quality state of the waters in the CHS was conducted in 40 sections, both on the main courses and their affluents, over a 3- year period.

The settling of human communities and the human behavior in a certain geographical area are directly influenced by the relief, by the existent resources and by the communicational possibilities. On the other hand, the human activities influenced the natural environment of an area by modifying it. The touch of man reached dramatic proportions, especially in the recent years, human activity radically transformed the natural environment. These general observations are valid for the greatest part of the European continent, and are prominent on the present territory of Satu Mare county. The various reliefs of the territory determined an uneven exploitation, according to the opportunities offered to use the resources. The relation between man and the environment from Satu Mare County was different throughout the time. If we look retrospectively to the natural environment of the county in the last centuries, it can be noticed the difference between its aspect then and today. The human activities carried out especially during the last two centuries have transformed it radically. The birth of the new geographical units – Ecedea Plain and Ier Plain – can be mentioned, as a consequence of draining the two swamps. The draining of the Ecedea Swamp at the end of the 19th century meant the destruction of one of the largest swampareas in Europe.
