Statistikken for Norges Statsbaner omfatter noen flere tabeller enn i 1961. Signy Arctander Kåre Ofstad Preface This publication mainly contains statistics relating to 1962. Some chapters are partly rearranged as compared with the previous issue (1961, volume II). Statistics on shipping include the results of a survey of tramp freighters in coasting trade carried out in 1961. State Railway statistics are more comprehensive than those of previous issues. Extracts from a publication by the Institute of Transport Economy on ownership and use of private cars in 1962 are included in the chapter dealing with road transport. On the basis of this survey and a new survey on goods transport by road, carried out by the Bureau in 1963, the figures for total domestic transport performances have been revised. The results of the latter survey will be published separately. Statistics for 1962 on scheduled road transport and road traffic accidents have been issued as separate publications and only main figures are therefore given in this volume. The statistics on passenger car traffic crossing the frontiers were discontinued in 1962 and no figures are therefore available for total arrivals of foreign visitors. These statistics have been substituted by data collected by the Nordic countries on travels to and from the Nordic passport area. Statistics on telegraph and telephone services have been extended by addition of several new tables based on data provided by the State Telegraph Admini- stration. This publication has been prepared by Mrs. Helle Brabrand, Mr. Hakon Moe and Mr. Knut Pedersen. Central Bureau of Statistics, Oslo, 14 February 1964.
