(M.Tech, ) Department of Transport Management Faculty of Management Sciences Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso P.M.B. 4000, Oyo State. ABSTRACT: This study examined the relationship between cargo handling equipment and port productivity in Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos. This study made use of 50 plant operators as sampled size based on simple random sampling technique, in which questions like how storage capacity of Tin Can port could be analysed and what is the relationship between equipment and productivity in the port. These data were subsequently analyzed through regression analysis and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient. The result showed that port productivity components were few, unserviceable and obsolete, storage capacity was inadequate and unable to cater for the existing volume of cargo in pre – reform era. While in post – reform era more cargo handling equipment have been procured, storage capacity have been increased and expanded, latest cargo handling equipment with high lift capacity have been procured. Therefore, the study recommended that faulty cargo handling equipment should be repaired, government and other stakeholders should encourage research into areas of post productivity. This is due to the fact that the general development of any country is first measured by its level of political development. Good political condition in a nation is a sine qua non to economic growth. A corrupt and unstable political system in any country would have a domino-effect on the country's economic outlook and social lives of the people. The concept of politics itself continued to be interpreted by many political scholars, critics and the masses from different perspectives. Corruption, political assassination, greed, perpetrated not only by politicians but also by the masses are the societal ills that continue to militate against socio-economic and political development in most African countries, particularly Nigeria. Peaceful political transition to the opposition party in Nigeria in recent times has given a different dimension to the country’s political position for other countries in the region to emulate. This paper addresses the concept of politics and presents corruption in Nigerian society from the point of theatre, using Osita Ezenwanebe’s Giddy Festival. The investigation is grounded in sociological theory and the concept of political realism. This paper recommends that politics can be violent-free if all the actors in the game develop selfless qualities of leadership for the benefit of the ruled.

The meeting was anchored from Abuja the Nigerian capital where the head office of the reputably efficient and ever reliable corporation is located. Shareholders also participated from the company’s facility in Lagos. The virtually coordinated and transmitted meeting was effectively directed by the company’s Chairman, Mutiu Sunmonu, CON, The erudite and experienced Chairman hit the ground running with precision on the agenda of the meeting. Without wasting time, he welcomed shareholders, board directors and members of executive management and the media to the meeting, then he invited the Managing Director, Engr. Dr. Lars Richter, to address shareholders on the performance of the company till date. Dr. Richter, who holds a PhD in Civil Engineering, and who is also a time conscious management professional, immediately thanked the participants for their presence even if largely, for the first time, virtual. He commenced his remarks at the AGM with a celebration of Julius Berger’s golden jubilee, the 50th anniversary since the corporation, fondly called JB by Nigerians, was registered as a Nigerian company.

    Kuwait Chapter of Arabian Journal of Business and Management Review Vol. 3, No.11; July. 2014 POLITICAL ASSASSINATION AND NIGERIA’S 4TH REPUBLIC: 1999-2007 Adeolu Durotoye Department of Political Science and International Studies Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Nigeria Abstract Not long after the return to democratic rule in 1999 following 15 years of uninterrupted military rule, Nigeria witnessed a troubling wave of political assassination. Political assassination became an instrument of settling political scores in Nigeria. Although some of the killings were discountenanced as ordinary murders, the timing of killings leaves no doubt that they were politically motivated. Actions by the government and police to stem the ugly tide and find the killers were insufficient and ineffective. This paper examines this subject from the standpoint that there is no real democracy where people are afraid to engage in political competition for fear of being assassinated. Hence, political assassination constitutes serious danger to Nigeria’s democracy. The paper reviews incidents of political assassination in Nigeria between 1999 and 2007, and proffers reasons for the unhealthy development, using narrative-analytical approach to accomplish its tasks. It concludes by suggesting ways of stopping or at least discouraging political assassination in Nigeria. For the purposes of this article, political assassination is defined as the deliberate, premeditated murder of a prominent figure for political reasons. INTRODUCTION Nigeria’s Police chief, Sunday Ehindero, alerted the National Assembly of the alarming security situation in Nigeria just before the 2007 elections; “Now coming down to the security situation in the country in relation to the 2007 elections, I have to inform you that we have arms in large quantities in our society; proliferation of arms and ammunitions in our society…There is a big threat of proliferation of arms and ammunitions in this country.
