  • Pedestrians Analysis and Design for Taiwo Road Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria
CARD International Journal of Engineering and Emerging Scientific Discovery ISSN: 2536-7250 (Print): 2536-7269 (Online) Volume 2, Number 4, December 2017 http://www.casirmediapublishing.com Pedestrians Analysis and Design for Taiwo Road Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria Braimoh O. S. & Gana A. J. Department of Civil Engineering College of Science and Engineering Landmark University Omu-Aran, Kwara State Email: [email protected], [email protected] Corresponding Author: Gana A. J. ABSTRACT Designing for pedestrians is a research work carried out as a result of the inadequate availability of pedestrian facilities resulting to increased accidents and other environmental and human hazards resulting from intermodal competitions for spaces vis-à-vis Highway capacity. This has helped to consider the possibility of pedestrian facilities for transportation in Taiwo road. The presence of pedestrian in Taiwo road has been investigated and found to be 538 per hour. In this research, Pedestrian facilities were designed for the Ibrahim Taiwo road in Ilorin city which is 3900m distance (from Taiwo salee junction to the end of the road at General Hospital roundabout). The design was done by carrying out pedestrian count on the Sidewalk and Crosswalk for the road in two hours for three days. The Sidewalk designed is 2.0m while the distance between the crosswalk markings is 0.6m and the thickness of the zebra crossing line is 0.6mat 3800m, 3200m 2150m, 650m and 200m from the origin of the road with 3m width, the Island height is 0.15m, the height of the signs above the ground is 2.0m and the Bus shelters are located at 3800m and 650m from the origin.

UNESCO CHAIR OF PHILOSOPHY FOR PEACE UNIVERSITAT JAUME I MILITARY INTERVENTION IN NIGERIAN POLITICAL SYSTEM: ITS IMPACT ON DEMOCRATIC DEVELOPMENT (1993-1999) MASTER THESIS Student: Johnson Gbende Faleyimu Supervisor: Dr Jose Angel Ruiz Jimenez Tutor: Dr Irene Comins Mingol Castellón, July 2014 Abstract Key words: Military, intervention, democracy and Nigerian politics A study of literature on civil-military relations in Nigeria reveals a question: why does the military intervene in the politics of some countries but remain under firm civilian control in others? This thesis delves into military intervention in Nigerian Politics and its general impact on democracy (1993-1999). The military exploits its unique and pivotal position by demanding greater institutional autonomy and involvement when the civilian leadership fails. The main purpose of this study is to discourage military intervention in Nigeria politics, and to encourage them to focus their primary assignment of lethal force, which includes use of weapons, in defending its country by combating actual or perceived threats against the state. i Dedication This thesis is dedicated to my late parents High Chief J.F Olijogun and Olori Meminat Marian Olijogun ii Acknowledgements My sincere gratitude goes to God and all who contributed to the successful completion of this thesis work. Very special thanks to my supervisor, Dr Jose Angel Ruiz Jimenez of University of Granada, for his brilliant guidance and encouragement-what a wonderful display of wealth of experience-without which this thesis would not have been possible. My profound appreciation goes to the lecturers and staffs of the International Master’s Degree Program in Peace, Conflict and Development studies at the Universitat Jaume I, who gave me all the skills and knowledge that are required to carry out an academic research and other academic endeavours.

  • Report of the West African Hub Meeting
REPORT OF THE WEST AFRICAN HUB MEETING HELD IN LAGOS, NIGERIA 2-7 OCTOBER 2017 HOSTED BY: Report Compiled by: Nigerian Slum/Informal Settlement Federation Background to the West African Hub Meeting The West Africa Hub meeting is the opportunity for all Federations in West Africa to come together in one city through exchange to learn from and challenge each other. Exchange is one of the key tools of the SDI network that is central to deepening our core rituals, stopping forced evictions, promoting participatory urban planning and development. Exactly 1 year ago in Accra, Ghana, the West African Federations of SDI converged to hold the preceding Hub Meeting from 2-7 October 2016. The theme was “Keeping Our Federations Through Savings Data.” The theme was no doubt apt as savings is the first core ritual of SDI; a tool for mobilization of every federation of the urban poor for their dignity, development, and to resist forced eviction through advocacy for inclusion. The theme of the follow-up 2017 Hub Meeting hosted by the Nigerian Federation is “Building Inclusive Cities.” This is a response to the rhythm of pains, sufferings and negative experiences of the Nigerian Federation members, in the spate of violent-mass evictions. Over 300,000 waterfront residents threatened with forced eviction by the Governor of Lagos State Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode in October of 2016, and then in November 2016, 30,000 people were forcefully evicted from Otodo Gbame waterfront community. All 33 threatened waterfront communities profiled by the Nigerian Federation enjoyed the respite of court order that condemned the Lagos Government’s actions as illegal, cruel, inhuman and degrading – but so much more needs to be done.

International Journal on New Trends in Education and Their Implications April, May, June 2011 Volume: 2 Issue: 2 Article: 4 ISSN 1309-6249 UNIVERSAL BASIC EDUCATION (UBE) POLICY IMPLEMENTATION IN FACILITIES PROVISION: Ogun State as a Case Study Prof. Dr. Kayode AJAYI Dr. Muyiwa ADEYEMI Faculty of Education Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, NIGERIA ABSTRACT The Universal Basic Education Programme (UBE) which encompasses primary and junior secondary education for all children (covering the first nine years of schooling), nomadic education and literacy and non-formal education in Nigeria have adopted the “collaborative/partnership approach”. In Ogun State, the UBE Act was passed into law in 2005 after that of the Federal government in 2004, hence, the demonstration of the intention to make the UBE free, compulsory and universal. The aspects of the policy which is capital intensive require the government to provide adequately for basic education in the area of organization, funding, staff development, facilities, among others. With the commencement of the scheme in 1999/2000 until-date, Ogun State, especially in the area of facility provision, has joined in the collaborative effort with the Federal government through counter-part funding to provide some facilities to schools in the State, especially at the Primary level. These facilities include textbooks (in core subjects’ areas- Mathematics, English, Social Studies and Primary Science), blocks of classrooms, furniture, laboratories/library, teachers, etc. This study attempts to assess the level of articulation by the Ogun State Government of its UBE policy within the general framework of the scheme in providing facilities to schools at the primary level.

Received 2 June, 2020; Accepted 8 August, 2020 This study investigated the impact of English Language proficiency testing on the pronunciation performance of undergraduates in South-west. Nigeria. The study was a descriptive survey research design. The target population size was 1243 (200-level) undergraduates drawn from eight tertiary institutions. The instruments used for data collection were the English Language Proficiency Test and Pronunciation Test. The English Language proficiency test was used to measure the performance of students in English Language and was adopted from the Post-UTME past questions from Babcock University Admissions Office on Post Unified Tertiary Admissions and Matriculation Examinations screening exercise (Post-UTME) for undergraduates in English and Linguistics. The test contains 20 objective English questions with optional answers. The instruments were validated through experts’ advice as the items in the instrument are considered appropriate in terms of subject content and instructional objectives while Cronbach alpha technique was used to estimate the reliability coefficient of the English Proficiency test, a value of 0.883 was obtained.
