The days are getting longer and brighter, and we are fast approaching March. During this month the length of each day is approximately 5.5 minutes longer for each day that passes! These are our suggestions for you this weekend: Photo: pixabay.com USEFUL INFORMATION Kindergarten Application Deadline If you need a kindergarten place for you child from August, do not forget: March 1st is the deadline for applications to be accepted for the main intake. This is the case whether you are applying for the first time or if you want to change kindergarten. The kindergarten situation can sometimes be challenging and it may be harder to get a place if you apply after this date. For more information contact the local kindergarten office in your municipality. Leave the Car at Home It has become more expensive to park in Oslo. Parking charges for public parking now apply Monday – Saturday until 20.00 hrs. Tariffs have also increased 50% in the red zones and 20% in the remaining areas (yellow, blue and green). This is one of the measures implemented by the city government (byrådet) in 2016 to reduce traffic in Oslo. Oslo’s city government wants to ban private cars from the city centre by 2019 as part of a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Address: Møllerveien 2 How to get there: Buses 34/54 to Møllerveien Bruce Springsteen to Oslo this summer The Boss and The E Street Band will be performing at Ullevaal Stadium June 29, as part of The River Tour. The tour, Springsteen’s first in two years, is named after his classic album The River. Bruce Springsteen has sold out Oslo’s biggest stadiums and arenas many times, so expect tickets to go fast this time as well. Tickets go on sale here February 25. MAJOR EVENTS/FESTIVALS X Games, until February 28 This winter Oslo is hosting the X Games, the biggest and most prestigious action sports event in the world. The competitions will take place 24-28 February at three different arenas, two of them brand new. Tøyen will host big air skiing and snowboarding, and the skateboarders will be competing in Building 13 at Filipstad. Skiing and snowboarding super pipe will take place in Wyllerløypa in Oslo Winter Park. In addition to all the sports competitions there will be a big concert in Tøyen on Saturday. He is a pioneer of modern jazz and funk, and has received numerous awards during his career in addition to nearly 20 Grammy nominations. A talent that has taken all of his viewers and listeners by storm since he struck down like a bomb in the Norwegian music scene one year ago. Palladium was one of the most popular club venues in NY during the 40s and 50s, featuring varied high-quality Latin music. Through their Palladium Latin Night at Cosmopolite, Sonora Cimarron seeks to recreate the great Palladium atmosphere. The ensemble will play its own composition, as well as arrangements of well-known Latin hits and classics.     Press Release October 26, 2016 No. 49/2016 NCC to construct sports arena in Oslo The City of Oslo’s Municipal Undertaking for Culture and Sports Facilities will commission NCC to build the Nye Jordal Amfi sports arena in Oslo, Norway. The order is worth SEK 445 million. Jordal Amfi was originally built for the Olympic Games in 1952 and is one of Norway’s most well- known sport arenas. “We are very pleased to have been awarded the contract to construct a new sports arena in the City of Oslo, and we are looking forward to starting the project,” says Marianne Brudevold Eek, Head of Department, NCC Civil Engineering, and Infrastructure in Norway. The construction site will be CO2 neutral during the execution of the project, which is in line with NCC’s strategy of offering superior sustainable solutions. “At NCC, we have made substantial progress in the ‘green shift’ and can offer private and public developers a number of sustainable solutions and certifications,” says Marianne Brudevold Eek. NCC has extensive experience of building sports and cultural arenas in the Oslo area, having constructed Bislett Stadion, Oslo Spektrum and Telenor Arena, among others. Nye Jordal Amfi will be an ice hockey arena for elite and recreational sports in Oslo, and will be designed as a modern arena for sports and public events, and also feature restaurants, cafes and conference facilities.     Good evening Europe, this is Norway Ei innhaldsanalyse av dei tre internasjonale Eurovision Song Contest- finalane arrangert i Noreg Silje Marie Hatlestad Masteroppgåve i medievitskap Institutt for informasjons- og medievitenskap Universitetet i Bergen Juni 2011 Føreord Store fjernsynshendingar som får millionar av menneske til å samle seg framfor fjernsynsapparatet nøyaktig til same tid, har fascinert meg lenge. Ved slike høve har eg alltid sete klistra til skjermen, livredd for å gå glipp av noko som alle andre får med seg. Eg fekk verkeleg kjenne på kroppen korleis det var å vere utanfor fellesskapet, då eg våren 2009 var på utveksling i Australia. Dårleg internettforbindelse og sending i opptak grunna tidsforskjell, gjorde at eg måtte droppa verdas største underhaldningsprogram, Eurovision Song Contest. Eg vakna klokka sju på morgonen 17.mai av følgjande SMS frå mamma: ”Du må våkne, Norge har vunne Grand Prix”. Eg visste det ikkje då, men dette vart starten på mi masterreise. Eit år med sjølvstendig skrivearbeid ligg bak meg. Likevel kunne eg ikkje gjort dette utan støtte frå andre. Ein stor takk til rettleiar Anders Johansen, for inspirerande og konkrete tilbakemeldingar. Takk til flotte studievenninner og studiekameratar i 6.etasje, for hjelp, oppmuntrande ord og god stemning.
