Located in the heart of Oslo is the building that used to house to the oldest savings bank in Norway. It has been converted into a unique space with six fantastic venues for cultural experiences. Sentralen is also the workplace for over 350 creative people producing a range of cultural expressions and working to find new solutions to social challenges. In charge of the restaurant and ground floor café are some of the most exciting chefs in Norway. The aim of Sentralen is to become one of Oslo’s most vibrant meeting places for people who love going to concerts, discussing social challenges or enjoying an excellent meal. Photo: Festival website EXHIBITIONS On rails, Oslo Museum: 28th February – 30th April, 11:00-16:00 The anniversary exhibition "On Rails" shows how the railway network in Oslo has evolved until today. Address: Frognerveien 67 Photo: VisitOslo Jone Kvie – Vessels, Vigeland Museet: 3rd February – 13th April, 12:00 – 16:00 Vigeland Museum presents the exhibition "Vessels" by sculptor Jone Kvie. "Vessels" are Kvies second solo presentation in a museum, showing both new and older work. With simple forms and recognizable materials such as stone, marble, bronze and aluminum, Kvie creates sculptures that assimilates the major issues related to the human condition. A recurring feature of his artistic career has been an orientation towards the complexity and infinity of the universe. Tickets on site. Address: Vigelandsmuseet, Nobels gate 32 Photo: VisitOslo DANCE Meg Stuart Damaged Goods: Until your hearts stop, Dansens Hus, 10th – 12th March at 19:00 In this production by Meg Stuart, six actors and three musicians find themselves in a place which is both a nightclub and somewhere more ambiguous. Against the sound of suggestive bass, piano and drums – a mixture of improvisation and composition – together, they make optimistic attempts at achieving completely impossible deadlines. Get ready for a unique evening of dance! Four choreographers, each with their unique signature style, have created new works to music ranging from Tchaikovsky to Rolf Wallin. Ingun Bjørnsgaard, Melissa Hough, Hege Haagenrud and Ina Christel Johannessen all have their followers within their respective fields, and will now meet to battle it out as choreographers at the Main House of the Oslo Opera House. All the performances are based on the story of that classic ballerina, the sleeping beauty – the glorified woman of the ballet world. But who is she today? Has she come out of her hundred-year slumber? Is she wide awake, or sleepless? The stage is hers, and the entire Norwegian National Ballet and the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra will fill the performance space. Click here to buy tickets. Address: Wergelandsveien 17 Photo: VisitOslo Jaamil Olawale Kosoko: #negrophobia, Black Box Theater, 12th -13th March at 19:00/21:00 Theatre and dance performance by Jaamil Olawale Kosoko. #negrophobia explores the fear associated with the black body. In collaboration with British performance artist IMMA, and composer Jeremy Toussaint Baptiste, Kosoko has created a piece that is both performance, lecture and ritual. Click here to buy tickets. Address: Munkedamsveien 14 Photo: VisitOslo CONCERTS Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, Oslo Konserthus, 10th March, 19:30 Postmodern Jukebox is a concept that has taken YouTube by storm with its vintage covers of modern pop classics. The band covers everything from Radiohead to Beyoncé, but does so in a way that pays homage to classic acts like Louis Armstrong or the Beach Boys. Click here for tickets. Address: Munkedamsveien 14 Photo: VisitOslo Drive-by Truckers, Rockefeller, 11th March, 11:00 Southern rock from Drive-By Truckers, a band firmly anchored in the Southern tradition, the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Neil Young, country, rock and blues. This fall the Truckers release their 11th album, "American Band", which is filled with the band's familiar style of personal storytelling, but also features a more political message than previous albums. Address: Torgata 16 Photo: VisitOslo Pablo Ziegler Trio, Cosmopolite, 11th March, 20:00 A piano concert with Pablo Ziegler, one of Argentina's best composers of Tango Nuevo after Piazzolla. He began as a classical concert pianist but soon became inspired by jazz. It did not take long before he led his own trio. Described as both rhythmic and lyrical his music is built on tango, jazz and improvisation. Click here to purchase tickets.
