May 1st is The International Worker´s Day, a celebration of the international labour movement. This day is a national holiday in more than 80 countries around the world, and is celebrated unofficially in many other countries. In Oslo, the day will be marked by the traditional march and rally organised by Landsorganisasjonen i Norge (The Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions). The event starts at Youngstorget at 11.25 with speeches and band music. The march will start from Youngstorget at. 12.45. Here are our Weekend Suggestions for you this week! UPCOMING EVENTS Selena Gomez to Oslo Spektrum in October The multi-platinum-selling singer and actress Selena Gomez, is coming to Europe with the ”Revival Tour ” this fall. First stop on the European tour will be Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, on October 10. Then she will visit Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, France, Luxemburg, Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, UK, Ireland and Spain, before ending the tour in MEO Arena in Lisbon on November 16. Selena Gomez will visit Oslo Spektrum October 13. Tickets will go on sale here April 29. CONCERTS Amanda Bergman, John Dee, April 28 at 20.00 Amanda Bergman has recently worked as a songwriter and singer of the acclaimed band Amason, who in 2015 released his critically acclaimed debut album “Sky City”. The band did a tour in the US with Of Monsters and Men, and they sold out John DEE Live Club in December. Amanda Bergman released her first solo album, “Docks” in February. The band recently won the Spellemann Award for best jazz album, 2015, and are preparing for a short live tour these days. Click here for more information and here for tickets. Address: Karl Johans gate 35 How to get there: All public transportation to Stortinget or National Theatre Photo: nasjonaljazzscene.no Eva Weel Skram: Strømløst, Rockefeller, April 29 at 20.00 Eva Weel Skram & The Heartmaker is a successfull Norwegian pop act that has managed to dominate radio playlists with multiple hits. After a period without new material Bergan is finally ready to show why the wait has been so long. The single “All Hours” was released in October and headed within a few days to the top of the Spotify- lists and on radio stations’ playlists. Ratkje: Kapital & Moral, Sentralen, April 30 at 20.00 Two highly original acts, Maja S. K. Ratke and POING invite to their traditional night-before-May-1 concert, this time taking place in the old bank vault of the newly opened venue Sentralen. Musical improvisation coupled with original compositions celebrate the working class and the people’s fight for freedom. This year they also celebrate the release of their new album Kapital & Moral. Address: Øvre Slottsgate 3 Photo: sentralen.no How to get there: Trams 11/12/13 to Christiania torv a-ha, Oslo Spektrum, April 30 and May 1 at 19.30 Norway’s biggest band end their reunion tour “Cast in Steel” in Oslo Spektrum, over 25 years since they played there for the first time. Now a-ha are back with a new album, and fans can look forward to hearing many of the new songs as well as the hits from the ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s. Click here for tickets. Address: Sonja Henies plass 2 How to get there: All public transportation to Oslo S/Jernbanetorget Photo: oslospektrum.no Bryan Ferry, Oslo Konserthus, May 1 at 19.30 Bryan Ferry was the front man of the band Roxy Music, hailed as a pioneer band in British glam and art rock. After leaving Roxy Music, Ferry started his own brilliant solo career which has led to hits like “Slave to Love” and “Don’t Stop the Dance”. He is renowned for his voice, lyrics, and even his fashion style. Hits from his time in Roxy Music, from his solo career, his voice, lyrics, and style are all coming to the Concert Hall in Oslo. Address: Munkedamsveien 14 How to get there: All public transportation to National Theatre Photo: billettservice.no THEATRE & SHOW Proud Cloud, Grusomhetens Teater, until April 30 at 20.00 Legendary jazz musician Tristan Honsinger and his Hopscotch ensemble visits Grusomhetens Teater in Oslo for what is presented as a musical circus. The project Proud Cloud is based in a meeting between free jazz and theatre, where musical situations such as melodies, songs and noise meet theatrical tableaus. The stage is populated with 15 performers, men and women, who jointly formulate a kind of existential journey. The scenography is altered as they go: new landscapes appear, new horizons are conquered. Tristan Honsinger is counted among the most significant innovators in European Jazz, and has been part of several international crews since the 70s. Hopscotch consists of jazz musicians, two actors and Butho dancer Hisako Horikawa. Click here for more information (in Norwegian). Tickets at the door. Address: Hausmanns gate 34 How to get there: Bus 34/54 to Møllerveien Photo: grusomhetensteater.no Stand-up: Katherine Ryan, Parkteatret Scene, April 29 at 20.00 Katherine Ryan from Canada is coming to Oslo with her third stand up tour, Kathbum. Although she is a fresh face on the stand up scene she has become popular in both the UK and Australia, and has performed at big festivals like the Oddball Comedy Festival. Address: Olaf Ryes plass 11 How to get there: Trams 11/12/13 to Schous plass Photo: parkteatret.no National Theatre of the World, Det Andre Teatret, April 28 at 19.00 and April 29 at 21.00 The National Theatre of the World is a multi-disciplinary, Toronto- based, non-profit theatre company that creates exciting, provocative, and instantaneous theatre through the art of improvisation. The core members are Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus. Click here for more information and tickets. Address: Ivan Bjørndals gate 9 How to get there: Trams 11/12/13 to Sandaker senter Photo: detandreteatret.no DANCE International Dance Days, April 29 – May 1 As part of the celebrations of International Dance Day, numerous events will take place in Oslo’s city centre, including Egertorget, Olaf Ryes plass and Youngstorget. Most of the events are free of charge. The celebrations officially opens on April 29 at 12.00, with a performance on the roof of the opera house. In Norway, the International Dance Day has been celebrated since 1999, and every year the number of registrations have increased. More information and programme here (in Norwegian). Address: Karl Johans gate 45 How to get there: All public transportation to National Theatre Photo: hardrockcafe.no Kingwings: The Formula, Chat Noir, April 29 – May 1 This is a show for the whole family built around dancing, beatboxing and chemistry. The Kingwings Crew, one of Norway’s best dance crew’s, and the University of Oslo collaborate on a show that combines dancing and science studies in what should be a very unusual show (in Norwegian).
