Jerome K. Jerome : Paul Kelver before purchasing it in order to gage whether or not it would be worth my time, and all praised Paul Kelver:

Not his best, but somewhat interestingBy Orange MagnoliaI generally enjoy Jerome, and I had read that this was generally considered an autobiographical novel. But I found it to be overall unsatisfying. It's extremely episodic --- characters come and go, as the narrative lurches through various stages in the main character's life --- one gets the impression Jerome was more intent on writing disguised memoirs than writing a cohesive novel. Some parts are fun --- I particularly liked Paul's experiences with a theater troupe, and his early entanglement with an beastly woman he drunkenly proposes to. Other parts fell flat. The main character has various crises determining his purpose in life, and ultimately the book is allegorical and sentimental, as he finds his way. By the end of the book, I had forgotten who the characters were who reappear for the denouement. I recommend it only to those who already know they enjoy Jerome and want to read more by him and possibly about him.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Autobiographical Novel of a British HumoristBy Andy LiuJerome Klapka Jerome is probably most famous for his novel "" and its sequel "Three Men on a Bummel". They are indeed my personal favorites, because they are very witty and entertaining. However, "Paul Kelver" is the one that is closest to my heart. It follows the life of Paul who eventually becomes a writer. A particular scene, where Paul met a mysterious stranger (unnamed, but every clue points to him being Charles Dickens) leaves a very deep impression on me.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
