Grand Tour of Morocco Iterinary Day 1: Casablanca Casablanca welcomes you! Depending on flight arrival, you will be greeted by local guide and driver, who will accompany you and check in to your accommodation. Dinner and over night stay in riad / hotel. Casablanca is Morocco's largest city, the country‟s economic and financial city. Highlights Visit of Casablanca (depending of the time we have): Great Hassan II Mosque - this majestic mosque is the largest mosque in Morocco and the 5th largest in the world. Its minaret is the world's tallest at 210 meters. Old Medina the medina is a true reflection of old life in the city. Tetouan was of particular importance in the Islamic period, from the 8th century onwards, since it served as the main point of contact between Morocco and Andalusia. Royal Palace - this 17th century building, is itself a reflection of the Hispano-Moresque architecture. Stay overnight in riad / hotel, Chefchaouen I Breakfast Day 5: Chefchaouen - Volubilis - Meknes - Fez (2 hours plus drive) Today, we explore Chefchaouen, the “Blue Pearl” a gorgeous mountain city and a humble town in Morocco. The picturesque medina, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Rif Mountains, filled with white washed homes with distinctive, hued blue-washed accents. Highlights Visit of Chefchaouen: The Heart of the Medina and Souks - is a small and calm town. It is a feast for the senses as the smell of fresh bread being cooked in ovens or on firewood greets. The Plaza - the heart of the medina is the shady, cobbled Plaza Uta el-Hammam, which is lined with cafes and restaurants, all serving similar fare. This is a peaceful place to relax and watch the world go by, particularly after a long day of exploration. La Kasbah - is a heavily restored walled fortress that now contains a lovely garden, a small ethnographic Museum and an even smaller art gallery. Chefchaouen has an extensive and important religious heritage with at least 20 mosques 11 zaouias and 17 mausoleums, because of this irrefutable heritage, Chefchaouen earned the name of "The Holy City”. Cross the Rif Mountains and Middle Atlas, drive past vast aces of vineyards in Meknes. Then we reach the Roman ruins of Volubilis (Morocco‟s most important archaeological site - *UNESCO World Heritage Site). The ancient Roman ruins with its beautiful and elaborate mosaics that have been preserved as a reminder of a city that once thrived. To 27 km from Volubilis is the Historic City of Meknes, also *UNESCO World Heritage Site located in northern central Morocco and the sixth largest city of Morocco. Observe the grandeur of the Moorish buildings. Enjoy an afternoon guided tour of Bab al-Mansour - the monumental gateway and main entrance into this 17th century imperial city. *UNESCO World Heritage Site. Finished in 1732, it was built by Sultan Moulay Ismail (though completed after his reign). Medina of Meknes - (old town) with Souk Nejarine offering plenty of textile stalls and Souk Sebbat home to many traditional Moroccan craft shops as well as clothing and Morocco's famous slippers. Meknes - The Holy Town of Moulay Idriss I (Moulay Idriss Zerhoun) - the city‟s founder of the first indigenous Islamic kingdom of Morocco and a descendent, the grand great son of the Prophet Muhammad. Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail - was the second ruler of the Moroccan Alaouite dynasty and known as the “Warrior King” in the country.
