Today, we explore Chefchaouen, the “Blue Pearl” a gorgeous mountain city and a humble town in Morocco. The picturesque medina, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Rif Mountains, filled with white washed homes with distinctive, powder-blue accents.

Enjoy your day trip to the Blue Pearl: Chefchaouen or Chaouen for short, it is seen as one of the most majestic places to travel. It is located in the northeast of Morocco and founded by Moulay Ali Ben Moussa in 1471.The custom dates back to the 15th century, when Jewish refugees fleeing the Spanish inquisition stelled in large numbers in Chaouen. They brought with them their tradition of drawing things blue to mirror the sky and remind them of God.

Chefchaouen has an extensive and important religious heritage with at least 20 mosques 11 zaouias and 17 mausoleums, because of this irrefutable heritage, Chefchaouen earned the name of "The Holy City”. Highlights Visit of Chefchaouen:

The Heart of the Medina and Souks - is a small and calm town. When entering one of the five entrances of this town we find that we are flooded with the most delightful aromas. It is a feast for the senses as the smell of fresh bread being cooked in ovens or on firewood greets.

The Plaza - the heart of the medina is the shady, cobbled Plaza Uta el-Hammam, which is lined with cafes and restaurants, all serving similar fare. This is a peaceful place to relax and watch the world go by, particularly after a long day of exploration.

La Kasbah - is a heavily restored walled fortress that now contains a lovely garden, a small ethnographic Museum and an even smaller art gallery. The ethnographic museum contains some fascinating views of old Chefchaouen, including the Plaza and the Kasbah; the gallery promotes the work of local artists. The views from the Kasbah tower over the medina are a delight.
