As sports information directors are apt to do, I figured the college’s centennial celebration would be a perfect time to compile stacks and stacks of information into one publication. I’m glad I did because it’s certainly con- venient to have this all in one place. Plus, it was an opportunity to honor Chadron State’s great athletic tradition from the last 100 years. Please don’t think I did this project alone. Those who came before me, most notably Con Marshall, did a fantastic job of keeping statistics, names of letterwinners and coaches and photos long before a computer made it easier and less burdensome. I also have to thank Elizabeth Most, a former volleyball player at Chadron State, for typing all the names of the letterwinners. She was an intern for me in 2008 and I promise if there’s a typo, I won’t take her internship credit away. Speaking of typos, I’m sure there are plenty. First, let me apologize in advance if your name or if someone you know has a name misspelled. It’s hard to proofread something this size, especially since there are so many names. If you know of a name being spelled incorrectly, please let me know. Unfortunately, the information, particularly the statistics and coaching staffs, for many of the sports that are no longer in competition at Chadron State are incomplete. If you have any information about those sports, once again, let me know. I would also like to thank the Alumni and Foundation Office for letting me invade its bookshelves to dig through annuals. I was able to find a lot of photos of former coaches and learn more “fashion.” According to the school’s records, there have been 90 total coaches in 100 years at Chadron State. Of those 90, 40 coached at least one other sport. Also, through my research, I’ve determined Chadron State has a cumulative record of 3,149 wins and 3,433 losses. I could misplace some of the losses to get us closer to .500, but if those numbers signify anything its that this school has been a beacon in Northwest Nebraska for longer than you or I have been alive. Over 6,500 recorded games have featured this school and I’m sure there’s thousands more in its future. We should all be proud of what our alma mater has accomplished. Because of Chadron State, we’re all linked to a small campus in a quiet town. I hope this publication reaffirms that fact. Here’s to another century. Best wishes and Go Eagles!
