According to expert statistical estimates, approximately three million Roman Catholics live in our country along with almost twenty thousand of our Eastern broth- ers and sisters in the Greek Catholic Church, with whom we are in full communion. There are an additional million Christians who belong to a variety of other Churches. Ecumenical cooperation, which was strengthened by decades of persecution and bullying of the Church, is flourishing remarkably in this country.

    FutureChurch Charting the roles of women in the Catholic Church Current breakdown of male/female leadership in Vatican dicasteries Pope Francis has called for “a more incisive presence for women” in the Catholic Church. At the most recent Consistory of cardinals on February 12 and 13, 2015, Fr. Federico Lombardi reported that the cardinals expressed the hope of “an increasingly active role” for women. Although Pope Francis stated the door is closed on the question of ordination for women to the priesthood, he has been emphatic in his call for a stronger presence of women elsewhere. He recently appointed Sr. Mary Melone, the first women to date, to head a Pontifical University; Sr. Luzia Premoli, the first women to be appointed as a member of the Congregation on Evangelizat ion of Peoples, and has stated that women should take up positions of greater leadership within the Vatican. So how many women are in positions of leadership within the Curia? How many assert real influence? While it is difficult to accurately measure the level of influence women exercise, the chart below has been generated to further that discussion by showing the current roles women play now in Vatican congregations, pontifical councils, and other commissions, committees and offices. On that same Saturday, Reverend Jonathan Michael Demma celebrated his first mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton’s Catholic Church. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend I did however attend Reverend Maurice Lawrence Moon’s first mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsey, Texas on Sunday, May 20, 2018. I am happy to report that we had a strong showing of Knights with the District Master Pat Conway leading our honor guard. My prayer is that we are able to have all of our future seminarians go on to become priests. I would also like to congratulate SK George Webster with an Honorary 4th Degree Life Membership. He is the the Fort Worth Diocese Wheelchair Chairman and is very active with his council. On a second note I look forward to our Officer’s Installation in June and I am excited to take on my new role and responsibilities. Questa è l’immagine che ci viene dal Vangelo che abbiamo ascoltato (Mc 10, 32-45), e che fa da sfondo anche all’atto che stiamo compiendo: un Concistoro per la creazione di alcuni nuovi Cardinali. Gesù cammina decisamente verso Gerusalemme. Sa bene che cosa lo attende e ne ha parlato più volte ai suoi discepoli. Ma tra il cuore di Gesù e i cuori dei discepoli c’è una distanza, che solo lo Spirito Santo potrà col- mare. Gesù lo sa; per questo è paziente con loro, parla loro con franchezza, e soprattutto li precede, cammina davanti a loro. Lungo il cammino, i discepoli stessi sono distratti da interessi non coerenti con la “direzione” di Gesù, con la sua volontà che è un tutt’uno con la volontà del Padre. Ad esempio – abbiamo sentito – i due fratelli Giacomo e Giovanni pensano a come sarebbe bello sedere alla destra e alla sinistra del re d’Israele (cfr v. 37). Non guardano la realtà! Credono di vedere e non vedono, di sapere e non sanno, di capire meglio degli altri e non capiscono… La realtà invece è tutt’altra, è quella che Gesù ha presente e che guida i suoi passi. La realtà è la croce, è il peccato del mondo che Lui è venuto a prendere su di sé e sradicare dalla terra degli uomini e delle donne.
