Shavington Academy ‘Together We Enjoy, Create, Aspire and Achieve’ Shavington Academy ‘Together we enjoy, create, aspire and achieve’ Applications are invited for the full time permanent post of Teacher of Physical Education Salary Range: £22,467- £33,160 Background Information Shavington Academy has been a Multi Academy Trust since 1st September 2015 for pupils aged 11-16, serving the villages and conurbation to the South of Crewe. Our catchment includes Wistaston Church Lane, The Berkeley, Shavington, Weston and Wybunbury Delves Primary Schools, though we draw pupils from across Crewe and South Cheshire. Our current school population is approximately 610 pupils; we have 150 first choices for September 2017 and admitted 176 in 2016. As such we have a growing school population with a maximum Pupil Admission of 850 for the current building. Housing developments locally and the academy’s growing reputation suggest that we will grow to this size in the next few years. We are one of fourteen high schools in Cheshire East that form the Chimney House Teaching School Alliance. Being a member of a teaching school has many benefits for teachers across the Teaching School; we both deliver and receive high quality training to support professional development at all levels, within the partnership. In sport, we participate within the Sandbach Schools Partnership and Crewe Schools partnership, often competing against schools twice our size, and yet we perform highly in this context, in a range of sports and pupils enjoy participating. Sport has a long and healthy tradition at Shavington and we have reworked our building in recent years, to meet pupils’ interest. We created a gym in 2015 and a dance studio in 2014, both on site. Tennis courts were resurfaced last year and our pitches are well kept and used by local clubs in addition to our usage. In addition, we hire the adjoining leisure centre for PE lessons and for every lunch time where large scale sports participation takes place. We also benefit from links with South Cheshire College and Manchester Metropolitan University. Our pupils enjoy representing their academy, in the county and, whilst at school, work towards their sporting colours and right to purchase a Shavington Academy Sports hoodie. We feel that we are a school with high aspirations and this judgement was validated by a full OfSTED inspection in May 2014 when we were graded ‘Good’ in all areas. This judgement followed a number of reviews, which consistently graded the school as good across all areas of achievement, teaching, behaviour and leadership. A copy of this report is accessible from our school website. We self- evaluate each department annually, using the range of internal data that we hold. PE is deemed to be good with outstanding features, by this process in 2016-2017. In terms of achievement, our pupils’ attainment on entry is broadly average and for several years, pupils have left above that average. Our Progress 8 score for 2016 was -.15 and we are working hard to raise achievement against this new measure for 2017. PE attainment is good. We teach both GCSE and Btec and have a large uptake of pupils for these accredited courses. 1 Page Applications The post arises due to a colleague moving on to another school. Tours of the academy are welcome so that you can gain a sense of the quality of education that we provide, and what it feels like to work in our academy. The post is advertised for a September start, teaching key stage 3 & 4 PE. This is the opportunity to work with good and outstanding teachers and an experienced and committed Curriculum Leader. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the extra- curricular programme of the department, to be negotiated according to the applicant’s strengths. For us, it is important that we appoint someone who is absolutely committed to our success and who is an exceptional professional, to contribute to our trajectory of improvement. In turn, we are committed to the professional development of our staff, and are able to offer high quality learning experiences through our Teaching School Foundation, and other development opportunities. NQTs receive an outstanding induction programme that has been validated within two OfSTED inspections of ITT providers with whom we worked, this year. Before /After School Collection KS1 parents/carers are required to stay with their children until the doors open at 8.50am children should not be left unsupervised.     SELF-EVALUATION FORM May 2017 – Summer 2018.V5 Context Our School The Fermain Academy is a 40 place 13-16 AP ‘free school’ with 52 students currently on roll. The school serves students from all over Cheshire East and beyond. All students have come to us through varying struggles in a mainstream school and all have individual needs. Many of these students are at risk of permanent exclusion and some come after being at a PRU. Almost all students have a persistent record of absence from their respective schools and thus have not been diagnosed with a range of additional needs such as Autism, Attachment, Dyslexia or ADHD. FSM ever 6 is currently 86% of our current. 10% of our students are in the care of a local authority. 96% of the cohort are below their expected learning level both on predicted KS2 data and expected progress for their age. 76% of our current cohort of year 11 students will have been with us less than a year when they sit their GCSE exams. The Fermain Academy school prides itself on supporting learners with a wide range of difficulties. All stake holders identified our values as a continuous commitment to the care, support and progress of our students. We work very closely with parents, students and other agencies to meet the needs of individuals. Students make progress in all areas particularly, but not exclusively, with their emotional, social and behavioural skills. The ethos is centred on students developing an intrinsic desire to make progress. Students enjoy attending the academy so their attendance is excellent despite many of them having an adverse history.

We say good bye to some colleagues this summer. Mrs Charlett joined us from Wade Deacon School in 2007 and is taking up post at St Francis Xavier College Liverpool. Mrs Bevis has been with us since 1998. She leaves us to take up post at Ruskin Community School. Mrs Williams, who has been with us as a Curriculum Leader and Teacher of Drama since 1997 leaves us at the end of the term. Mrs Carroll leaves us to take up a permanent post at Reddish Vale High School in Stockport. Miss Nelson has decided to say her own goodbyes, in this newsletter. She leaves us to take up post in a school closer to her home in Wrexham. Mrs Nixon, Senior Science Technician, is retiring this Summer after 15 years service to the school. Mrs Leese, Achievement Leader begins her maternity leave and expects to return to us at February Half Term of 2016. I am sure that you will join me in wishing them all the very best. Joining us for the new academic year are the following colleagues: Mr Morgan, who joins us as Achievement Leader for Inclusion and Behaviour for Upper School.
