TRIANGLE’S Requirement for 7th kyu BEST stances, punches, & blocks

To achieve 7th kyu, a student must perform appropriate , Heian NiDan, and Sanbon and be able to demonstrate the following techniques.

STANCES Dachi- BLOCKS Shizen Tai – natural position Age – rising block Hachiji Dachi – shoulder width stance Ude Uke – forearm block (there are 2 types) Heisoko Dachi – feet together stance Uchi Ude Uke – Inside to Outside forearm Misubi Dachi – bowing stance block (standing heels together, toes out at 45 Soto Ude Uke – Outside to Inside forearm degree angle, literally “to bring forth life”) block Zenkutsu Dachi – Shuto Uke – sword hand block Kokotsu Dachi – back stance Gedan Berai – downward sweeping block Kiba Dachi – horse riding stance Juji Uke – “X” double block Kosa Dachi – crossed feet stance Morote Uke – 2 hand block Neko Ashi Dachi – cat stance Tate Shuto Uke – vertical sword hand block Hamni Dachi – 45 degree side stance Haisho Uke – back Hand Block (like 2nd move in Tekki ShoDan) PUNCHES Choku Zuki – straight SHU HA RI – the cyclical nature of karate Oi Zuki – stepping punch (same hand and training foot forward) SHU – tradition Gyaku Zuki – counter punch HA – bonds of tradition (opposite hand and foot) RI - transcendence Kizami Zuki – jabbing punch Age zuki – rising punch Ura Zuki – close punch Kage Zuki – punch Morote Zuki – 2 fist punch
