Robin Egerton has made an enormous contribution to this and many other educational settings across Australia and I want to acknowledge her many contributions to education. Robin is a passionate educator, a lover of literature and a seasoned traveller. Her leadership was inspiring, thought provoking and game changing. You can read more about one of her initiatives below. I wish Robin all the best in her new endeaours and her forthcoming retirement. The cold weather has certainly made its presence felt. As I write students have commenced NAPLAN and I congratulate all the students for their approach to these assessments so far. Thank you to all primary families who have contributed to the success of extra-curricular activities by helping with our reading programme along with our cross-country event held earlier this week. It is very much appreciated. As always please do not hesitate to make a time to meet with myself or any member of the executive team to discuss a concern or clarify any questions you may have Secondary information evenings were held last week for Year 7, 2020 and for year 10 students moving to college in 2020. Both evenings were well attended with many questions to be answered. Year 10 students visited Narrabundah College to start their transition process this week. Meetings about the expectations in the French Bilingual stream in Y7 and high school will take place week 5 for Y6 students and parents/carers. Enrolments for both year 7 and kindergarten opened at the start of this term and will close on Friday 31 May. We have received many applications already. Please be reminded again that year 6 students transitioning to year 7 DO NOT need to complete an on-line enrolment form. These students are already enrolled at Telopea Park School. A successful Cross Country Carnival was held for the primary sector this week. A beautiful autumn day enhanced the enthusiasm of the students as they ran the course. Thank you to Cathy Marot, the primary PE leader and to the parents and teachers who supported this event. The secondary Athletics Carnival will be held next week. This will be another opportunity for students to engage in outdoor physical activity and to demonstrate their support for their School Houses. Year 9 students are presently engaged in preparation for the up-coming Brevet examinations. They are well-prepared by their teachers who are supporting each student. The mock oral examinations will be held next Monday. Best wishes to all of our students. This year has seen some movement in our faculty staff with Mr James McAuliffe and Ms Sarah Darcy joining our team and Mr Ben Yuen moving across to be the Executive teacher of the Arts and Design faculties. The following is a wrap up of all things PE and sport from term 1 and early term 2, and a look at what is still to come this term. Physical and Health Education All students have settled well into their PE classes for the semester. So far students have engaged in a variety of sports focused around many of the sports on offer during term 1. Most classes have also completed their health unit. Health units for semester one are Positive Relationships and Sexuality (year 7), Drug Education and Safety (year 8) and Safety, Alcohol and other drugs (years 9 & 10). This term, students returned to commence with Athletics in preparation for our school athletics carnival to be held on Thursday 23 May (week 14). Following athletics, students will engage in various sports and health lessons (for those classes who haven’t completed health yet). In weeks 9 and 10 all classes will be involved in a series of interclass challenges focused on the sports covered during the semester. Finally, just a gentle reminder to all students that they are required to get changed for practical lessons. This includes the PE shirt, navy shorts/trackpants and appropriate footwear. If you do not have a PE shirt then they can be purchased from the uniform supplier in the Jamison centre. There is still a number of the older PE shirts (limited smaller sizes) available from the PE staffroom – come and check with us first. While the majority of students are doing the right thing, there has been an increasing number of students coming to PE with unsuitable footwear. Flat soled shoes, such as Vans, Converse and other street style shoes, do not Page 3 of 18 provide the required support and traction needed for the activities covered in PE. Students are also requested to bring a hat through the summer, autumn and spring months and a drink bottle. Sunscreen is available for students to use when outside, but students are also welcome to bring their own, especially if sensitive to general sunscreen. Sports Carnivals By the end of the semester we will have completed all three major carnivals and know who our overall Champion House for 2019 is; although this won’t be announced until the awards ceremony at the end of the year so everyone will need to wait in anticipation that it is their House. The first of our three major sports carnivals for the year was the swimming carnival.
