DOMENICO NORDIO, violinist

Domenico Nordio, violinist and violist, has performed in the world's most prestigious halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Teatro alla Scala in , Barbican Center in London and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. In his thirty-year career he has played with London Symphony, National de France, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Stuttgart, , Lugano and Sofia Radio Symphonies, Moscow Symphony, Orchestra Nazionale della RAI and Orquesta Nacional de España with conductors such as Flor, Steinberg, Casadesus, Luisi, Karabtchevskij, Lazarev, Aykal.

The recent appearances at St.Petersburg Philharmonic Great Hall, Bucarest Enescu Philharmonic Hall, Rio de Janeiro (Teatro Municipal), Buenos Aires (Teatro Colón) and Moscow Tchaikovsky Great Hall, in addition with the European and American concert tours, have increased his fame and today Nordio is one of violinists internationally known. For this reason the Stradivari Foundation of Cremona has chosen him as testimonial for its "Friends of Stradivari" project, which includes concerts and auditions with the great violins of its collection (Stradivari, Amati, Guarneri and Bergonzi). With the 1714 "Joachim-Ma" Stradivarius he has recorded his first Sony Classical work, after the undersigning of an exclusive agreement with the label. The CD features the Concerto Gregoriano of Respighi and Tartiniana Seconda of Dallapiccola with Muhai Tang and the Parma Toscanini Philharmonic (2012 release).

Appreciated as soloist as well as chamber music player, Nordio is regularly present in the most important Festivals alongside Misha Maisky, Louis Lortie, Boris Belkin, Michele Campanella and Jeffrey Swann. With Mikhail Lidsky he recorded the Brahms Sonatas for violin and viola (Decca) and with Andrea Bacchetti has been protagonist of acclaimed recitals at Ravenna and Ravello Festivals.

Nordio is today's music lover and many composers have dedicated him masterpieces: Semini, Donatoni (Duo for Violin and Viola, premiered at the «Settimana Musicale Senese»), Boccadoro (Cadillac Moon, performed with the «Teatro Lirico di Cagliari» Orchestra and recorded live by Rai Trade), Dall'Ongaro (The Red Zone) and Molinelli (Zorn Hoffnung Gesang, premiered at the final concert of the Composing Competition «August 2» with the «Teatro Comunale di » Symphony).

Student of Corrado Romano and Michèle Auclair, former child prodigy (he gave his first recital at age of ten), at age of sixteen Nordio won the Viotti International Competition in Vercelli with the legendary as President of the Jury. After the achievement at Paris «Thibaud» Competition, Viña del Mar «Sigall» Competition and «Francescatti» Competition, the Eurovision Grand Prix obtained in 1988 gave him immediate popularity thanks to the final broadcast live on television throughout Europe from the . Nordio is the only Italian prizewinner in the Contest history.
