Press release 27.05.2013 RIAR in Monza for 's 50th Anniversary A not-to-be-missed event for all Alfisti

The legends are back on the racetrack: an unmissable event organized by Registro Italiano Alfa Romeo International Club and Automobilismo Storico Alfa Romeo, Museo di Arese to celebrate Autodelta's 50th birthday.

The appointment is for next 21 and 22 September at Autodromo Nazionale Monza on the asphalt that saw Alfa Romeo's legend and passion bud and bloom.

There's no better way to celebrate half a century of what has been for over 20 years Alfa's racing division than having back on the all the that competed, won and brought much honour to Alfa Romeo on roads and circuits all over the world. From the legendary Tipo 33, which dominated two World Championships, to the outstanding GTAs, from the Giulia TZ and TZ2 to Formula 1 and Formula Indy racers, from Formula 3 and Boxer single-seaters to Alfasud Trofeos, not to mention Touring, Rally, Sports and GP vehicles, all these cars have something in common: the logo they proudly display on their bonnet and the passion their owners put into their preservation, an example of Italian style and excellence.

The cars that will fill the Monza Circuit with the roar of their engines come from all over the world: with their 4, 6, 8 or 12-cylinder engines they will be side by side, wheel to wheel with a selection of classic Alfas from Museo Storico Alfa Romeo. The wonderful cars of Scuderia del Portello and Museo Collezione “Cafè Velocità”, owned by famous collector and driver Gianni Giudici, will also be part of this extraordinary rally.

A unique event and a once-in-a-lifetime chance for participants and Alfa fans to share memories and thrills with yesterday's and today's Alfa men and drivers, and to admire and listen to these striking Alfa Romeo racers all together in their natural habitat: the racetrack.

Born as an independent company collaborating with Alfa Romeo, Autodelta later became the Biscione's racing division winning an amazing streak of trophies in all categories in just over ten years. It was in charge of the development and design of new racing cars, of the racing team and of customer support.

1963. After his adventure with ATS, established a small company in Feletto Umberto (near Udine) with brothers Ludovico and Gianni Chizzola to partner with Alfa Romeo for the production of the Giulia TZ. Giuseppe Luraghi had in fact decided to outsource the manufacturing and management of Alfa Romeo racing cars which, after the team's official withdrawal from competitions in 1951, were about to make an astonishing comeback in the Formula 1 World Championship with the victory of on a Tipo 159 “Alfetta”.

After briefly using the name “Delta-Auto”, on 5 March 1963 Chiti and Ludovico Chizzola registered the new company as “Autodelta”. When the production of the TZ and TZ2 was completed, the collaboration with Alfa Romeo continued on the racing front: Autodelta kept managing the racing team and preparing its racing cars while the advent of the GTA was drawing closer. Carlo Chiti was highly regarded by the Alfa Romeo management for his creativity and talent.

Business for Autodelta/Udine kept growing until logistics became a serious hindrance for the efficiency of its partnership with Alfa Romeo. This persuaded Chiti to move Autodelta to a few warehouses in Settimo Milanese, not far from Arese, in 1965. Chizzola preferred to step aside and continue to run his family's dealership in Udine.

The following year, on 14 January 1966, Autodelta was taken over by Alfa Romeo and Chiti became General Manager of what was now officially the maker's racing division.

After successfully handling the production of the TZs and GTAs, Autodelta was also entrusted the development of the new Tipo 33, which won the World Championship for Makes (WCW) in 1975 and 1977. Autodelta ended up running all Alfa Romeo's racing activities, from Trofeo Alfasud to Formula 1. Those were years full of success, hope and bitter disappointments; however, they were always marked by great cars, daunting challenges and true champions.

Autodelta also built some special versions for a few special clients, like the limited series of the 33 Stradale, the GTVs and the turbocharged Giuliettas called “Turbodelta”.

In 1984, due to the recurring financial, political and union problems, the F1 failure and the sale of Alfa Romeo, the car maker's racing activities underwent a reorganisation. Carlo Chiti left the company and, two years later, Autodelta was dissolved and its staff and facilities converged in the new .
