Croat., Vol. 24, No. 2, 361–397*, 2015, Zagreb due to the forthcoming obligation to thoroughly catalogue and officially register all living and non-living collections in the european union, an inventory revision of the plant collections in Zagreb Botanical Garden of the faculty of science (university of Zagreb, Croatia) has been initiated. the plant lists of the temperate (warm) greenhouse collections since the construction of the first, exhibition Glasshouse (1891), until today (2015) have been studied. synonymy, nomenclature and origin of plant material have been sorted. lists of species grown (or that presumably lived) in the warm greenhouse conditions during the last 120 years have been constructed to show that throughout that period at least 1000 plant taxa from 380 genera and 90 families inhabited the temperate collections of the Garden. today, that collection holds 320 exotic taxa from 146 genera and 56 families. Duplication and Diversification in the APETALA1/FRUITFULL Floral

Irish Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut 06520-4108 Manuscript received March 21, 2003 Accepted for publication June 11, 2003 ABSTRACT Phylogenetic analyses of angiosperm MADS-box genes suggest that this gene family has undergone multiple duplication events followed by sequence divergence. To determine when such events have taken place and to understand the relationships of particular MADS-box gene lineages, we have identified APETALA1/FRUITFULL-like MADS-box genes from a variety of angiosperm species. Our phylogenetic analyses show two gene clades within the core eudicots, euAP1 (including Arabidopsis APETALA1 and Antirrhinum SQUAMOSA) and euFUL (including Arabidopsis FRUITFULL). Non-core eudicot species have only sequences similar to euFUL genes (FUL-like). The predicted protein products of euFUL and FUL- like genes share a conserved C-terminal motif. In contrast, predicted products of members of the euAP1 gene clade contain a different C terminus that includes an acidic transcription activation domain and a farnesylation signal. Sequence analyses indicate that the euAP1 amino acid motifs may have arisen via a translational frameshift from the euFUL/FUL-like motif. The euAP1 gene clade includes key regulators of floral development that have been implicated in the specification of perianth identity. However, the presence of euAP1 genes only in core eudicots suggests that there may have been changes in mechanisms of floral development that are correlated with the fixation of floral structure seen in this clade. -

Mutis, 10(1), 57-78. doi: 10.21789/22561498.1602 RESUMEN Se presenta el inventario florístico de las plantas ornamentales de la ciudad de Tunja (Boyacá). Se encontraron 430 especies, distribuidas en 314 géneros y 101 familias, de las cuales 307 especies son Eudicotiledóneas, 96 Monocotiledóneas, 11 Pteridofitos, 10 Gimnospermas y 6 Magnólidas. A nivel florístico, las familias Asteraceae, Cactaceae, Orchidaceae, Solanaceae y Asparagaceae presentaron el mayor número de géneros y especies. El hábito de crecimiento más importante en términos de riqueza de especies fue el de las hierbas, seguido por los hábitos leñosos (árboles y arbustos). En am- bientes de exterior se encontraron más especies de tipo arbóreo y arbustivo, mientras que en am- bientes de interior predominaron las suculentas. -

Datta Department of Botany, University of Calcutta, Calcutta 700019, India Received March 25, 1975 Of the two genera of Piperaceae (Piper and Peperomia), the former may be more primitive (Bentham and Hooker 1880, De Dalla Torre and Harms 1900-1907, Hutchinson 1969). According to Rousseau (1927), Piper is the basic group from which Chloranthus and Saururus (commonly placed in distinct families) are derived by minor modification, while Peperomia has evolved by major changes. Anatomi cal study (Metcalfe and Chalk 1950) suggest Piper to be most specialized. Study of karyotype is an important field of research for understanding inter relations and evolutionary trends (Darlington 1937, White 1945, Babcock, Stebbins and Jenkins 1937, Love 1946, Kapoor and Love 1970, Asana and Adatia 1945, Bowden 1945, Tobgy 1943, Stebbins 1964, 1966, Sharma 1960). A few authors (Smith 1966, Mathew 1958, Sharma and Bhattacharyya 1959, Blot 1960) have studied the karyology of the family with special attention to phylogeny. Solution of phylogenetic problems requires further comparative study of chromosome morphology. Material and methods For the study of somatic chromosomes, root tips, collected from cuttings, planted in the experimental garden of the University, were pre-treated in aesculin (Sharma and Sarkar 1955) for one to three hours, fixed in acetic alcohol (1:1) for 45 minutes to one hour, treated in acetic acid (45%) for 15 minutes and squashed in aceto-orcein technique. Proper plates (about five for each species) were selected and drawn with camera lucida, and oil immersion lens at a projected magnification of 2600. -
