STAFF REPORT April 12, 2006 To: Works Committee From: Gary Welsh, General Manager, Transportation Services Subject: Potential to increase the Number of Taxi Stands Adjacent to TTC Subway Stations (All Wards) Purpose: To respond to a request from City Council for a report on the feasibility of increasing the number of Taxi Stands in the vicinity of Subway Stations. Financial Implications and Impact Statement: The funds associated with the introduction of the appropriate regulatory signage are contained in the approved Transportation Services Division 2006 Operating Budget. Recommendations: It is recommended that: (1) the following 26 new Taxi Stands as described in Attachment #1, be established in the vicinity of Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Subway Stations; and (2) the appropriate City officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to give effect thereto, including the introduction in Council of any bills that may be required. Background: City Council, at its meeting held on May 17, 18 and 19, 2005, in adopting Consolidated Clause 16 (j) in Works Committee Report 5, requested that Transportation Services staff report to the Works Committee on the feasibility of increasing the number of Taxi Stands around TTC Subway Stations, and further that representatives of the Taxi industry, in particular Ms. Souter, General Manager of Beck Taxi, be invited to depute on the item. - 2 - Comments: The issue of designating Taxi Stands in the vicinity of Subway Stations was last dealt with by the former Metropolitan Toronto Council in February, 1992. At that time, the former area municipalities were requested to implement designated Taxi Stands at Subway Station locations. -

STAFF REPORT ACTION REQUIRED Lake Shore Boulevard West - Speed Limit Reduction Date: March 29, 2007 To: Etobicoke York Community Council From: Director, Transportation Services - Etobicoke York District Wards: Ward 6 – Etobicoke-Lakeshore Reference eycc070058-to - 4757 Number: SUMMARY The purpose of this report is to obtain approval to reduce the speed limit on Lake Shore Boulevard West, between Mimico Creek and Palace Pier Court, from 60 km/h to 50 km/h. Given the existence of Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) streetcar tracks on the majority of this section of Lake Shore Boulevard West and the curved road alignment east of the F.G. Gardiner Expressway on-ramp/Brookers Lane, a lower (50 km/h) speed limit is justified and recommended. In addition, the proposed 50 km/h speed limit on Lake Shore Boulevard West between Mimico Creek and Palace Pier Court will provide for a consistent speed limit on this road in the Etobicoke York Community. RECOMMENDATIONS Transportation Services recommends that: 1. City Council approve the reduction of the speed limit on Lake Shore Boulevard West between Mimico Creek and Palace Pier Court from 60 km/h to 50 km/h. No change is required for April 2018. The schedules taking effect on Sunday, May 13, 2018 will reflect a resumption of streetcar service through to Long Branch Loop. Actual implementation depends on construction status. 501L buses from Long Branch will loop via Humber Loop if a workable route can be devised, but otherwise they will loop at Windermere and connect with streetcar service there. 9.3 Date: January 25, 2021 Originator’s files: To: Mayor and Members of Council From: Geoff Wright, P.Eng, MBA, Commissioner of Meeting date: Transportation and Works February 10, 2021 Subject MiWay - Update on Presto Device Refresh Recommendation That the report titled “MiWay - Update on Presto Device Refresh“ dated January 25, 2021 from the Commissioner of Transportation and Works, providing an update on Presto Device Refresh along with capital costs incurred, be received for information. Report Highlights On December 6, 2017, Council approved the new Presto Operating Agreement (valid till 2027). The Director of Transit was authorized to procure directly from Metrolinx, and directly from PRESTO subcontractors, for PRESTO related services, technology, equipment, and infrastructure as defined in the Operating Agreement, subject to budget approval. The Presto Device Refresh Project was initiated (led by Metrolinx/PRESTO in collaboration with MiWay and other GTHA transit partners) in 2017/2018 to replace aging bus and station equipment. New devices have been installed on all MiWay Transit buses and in fixed locations (Bus Terminals, Community Centers) as of December 2020. These devices are built on a modern high performance, high security platform. This new platform provides PRESTO and MiWay with a futureproof solution that will enable new, flexible fare collection options such as time of day pricing, capping, e- Ticketing and open payments. The necessary capital budget required to support this critical business system initiative has been requested through the City’s business planning process. 9.3 General Committee 2021/01/25 2 Background The existing Presto fare collection equipment was developed prior to 2010 and deployed in late 2010 on MiWay buses. -

That the report to General Committee entitled “Cross-Boundary Transit Service Integration Pilot Project” dated May 25, 2021 from the Commissioner of Transportation and Works be received for information. 2. That Phase 1 of the Service Integration Pilot Project recommendations for enhanced cross-boundary travel be received for information. Executive Summary The Ministry of Transportation has convened a Fare and Service Integration (FSI) Provincial-Municipal Table that includes representatives of all transit agencies and aims to improve connections and the customer experience for inter-municipal transit travel. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has engaged a consultant team to develop an agency-driven FSI model to present to the Provincial-Municipal Table in partnership with surrounding transit agencies including MiWay. Currently MiWay, along with several other 905 agencies, are prohibited from providing local service within City of Toronto, resulting in TTC providing duplicate service for their residents. In addition, transit fares are not integrated between the TTC and MiWay. In partnership with the TTC, the Burnhamthorpe Road corridor has been selected for a transit service integration pilot project in the near-term (targeting fall 2021). 9.8 General Committee 2021/05/25 2 Background For decades, transit service integration has been discussed and studied in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area (GTHA). The Ministry of Transportation’s newly convened Fare and Service Integration (FSI) Provincial-Municipal Table consists of senior representatives from transit systems within the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area (GTHA) and the broader GO Transit service area. -

Last trips will be NB from Lake Shore at 2:15 am and SB from Kipling Stn at 2:30 am. 188 Kipling S Rocket AM peak service will be improved to operate every 10 minutes SB from Kipling Stn from 6:30 am, then at 7'30" (the current headway) from 7:00 am. The 7:28 PM peak NB trip will be dropped so that the last trip now operates at 7:20 pm. 50 Burnhamthorpe The following AM peak trips will be eliminated due to low ridership. Times of nearby trips will be adjusted to fill the gaps. EB from Mill Rd: 6:15 am WB from Islington Stn: 6:35 and 9:25 am 310/317 Spadina Night The route number will be changed to 310 to match the daytime 510. -

Given Neptis’s focus on regional issues, we have supported Levy’s work because it demon- strates clearly that regional rapid transit cannot function eff ectively without a well-designed network at the core of the region. Toronto does not yet have such a network, as you will discover through the maps and historical photographs in this interactive web-book. We hope the material will contribute to ongoing debates on the need to create such a network. Rotary Awareness Campaign Launched in Toronto
ROTARY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED IN TORONTO Part of making sure that all visiting Rotarians will feel welcome in Toronto for this June’s Convention is to build awareness of Rotary within the Greater Toronto Area. Seven Rotary Clubs within Districts 7010 and 7070 have commissioned ten murals by young artists within their communities to help tell the story of Rotary and all the good it does in the world. These original works of art have now been put on display in ten Toronto Subway stations and will remain in place through the convention period. Each mural has on it the name of the sponsoring Rotary Club(s), the name of the Participating Partner and the Vibe Arts logo. Kennedy Station Kennedy Station Wilson Station Full size copies of the murals are also going to be on prominent display in the Host Organizing Committee Lounge at the House of Friendship.
